I think it's Care Bears. I'm not sure if this is really the first one I watched but this is the oldest cartoon that I recall. This was launched in the 80's. What I can only remember is that they are these cute little teddy bears who live in the clouds or skies. They have superpowers and they have different pictures including rainbow and sunshine on their chest which come to life to perform their magic. I can no longer the exact details but I do remember that I watched a lot of the episodes of this cartoon.

I also watched Care Bears. It was a cute show. I was excited to see each bear's different powers. The rainbow one was kind of pretty.

Kakashi2020
I remember that it's kind of a non violent anime and it was released after the robot animes where banned due to violence. Care Bears was shown here back to back with a cartoon which has unicorns as characters, I can't recall the name and another one called Rainbow Brite.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Zelmontero
Care Bears are really cute. When I was a kid I really liked that they are very colorful. It is a good show for kids they can learn the different colors by just watching them.

Wow, I never thought that care bears are that old, I thought it was around 90s or early 2000

I have watched Care Bears. I like it but I think I only had the interest when I was a little kid. It didn't do with me as I grew up, unlike the other cartoons or animes that I watched as a kid.

Care Bears and Rainbow Brite are two of my earliest cartoon memories as well. I think they were quite popular with a lot of kids born in the same era as me!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Chinet23
Rainbow Brite, right. These two were aired around the same time. From what I can recall somehow they have similarities- rainbow, skies and those stuff. The girl had multi-colored rainbow suit who rode on a horse. I thought it was a unicorn but I just checked it now it was just a usual flying horse. Maybe, those cartoons just jumbled in my memory and I mixed them up.

I remember this cartoon and I miss this one, unlike care bears that still aired every now and then, Rainbow bites is rarely aired.

The first cartoon I remembered watching was Popeye and Hans Christian Andersen's Classics. While the first Anime I ever watched was Voltes V and Mazinger Z which where both great Mecha animes.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Popeye is one of the most familiar old cartoon shows. It's even popularized the use of spinach. It's funny that he seemingly becomes unbeatable once he's gotten a hold of it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
When I was younger, popeye was the famous cartoon. He was really popular that my friends has a lot of popeye merch.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also watched a lot of cartoons based on the stories of Hans Christian Andersen, Grimm Brothers, even Asoeop fables. Some of the cartoon shows that I still remember are Snow White, Rapunzel, Frog Prince etc. I did not watch amime as a child. I was introduced to anime only when I was in teens, however, I did not like the anime because I was more familiar with western characters.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. There's a certain charm to old cartoons. You can feel the nostalgia of those who lived in that time. The cartoons had a different look. It makes them stand out even until now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do agree I think the charm that resonates from old cartoons comes from its morales which was pretty evident in old cartoons. Nowadays cartoons doesn't promote good morales in general that's why I miss watching the old ones.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
And you wonder how they did it considering previous animations were more violent. Like how they constantly played with the idea of explosives and getting hit by trains.

Looney Tunes along with Tom and Jerry really showcased extreme situations. But I guess they did it in a way that children knew it was all made up.

Not to be imitated in real life.

Popeye is one of my favorite animation or should I call it cartoons back in the days when men were boys. I can still remember my good days with watching them and would still give attention to watch it even now if I had the chance to do so. Although, there are lots of cartoons to watch now unlike before.

I think, the first cartoon I watched was Alice in Wonderland. It was a Russian adaptation from 1981. The stile perfectly catches the original stile of the book. And my first anime was The Flying Phantom Ship, which is still quiet great.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's so cool. I guess it's hard to find stuff nowadays that match the original source. Most books that become TV shows or movies are totally off in terms of onscreen portrayal.

Alice in the wonderland and The Flying Phantom ship are really great.

Dragonball Z was the first anime I've watched on TV but Naruto is the first one that I've downloaded just to watch the other episodes not yet available and it was also the first one which I actively sought out the manga to read because I was so invested in the story.

Same here Dragon Ball Z and Detective Conan are my first anime. I love detective Conan when I was just a child and even up to now. I feel nostalgic whenever i watch the two anime. They were so ahead of their time. Even today, nothing can match their storyline and originality.

I watched Dragonball Z too because of my brother's influence. He and my cousins loved this cartoon. Many decades later, my son still got to watch this and got hooked with the characters too.

The cartoons that I remember watching when I was little are those from Looney Tunes. After that, I remember watching cartoons that my brother watch such as Voltron, Thunder Cats, He-Man, Ghostbuster and the likes. As for the first anime that I really enjoyed watching, it would be Naruto. Got addicted to the series that I spent several days doing a marathon of the whole Naruto Series.

My very first cartoon is the Power Puff Girls. I was around 4 or 5 years old when those cute little girls were introduced to me. I liked them a lot. I mean they're powerful yet very very cute. I also usually sing their opening song whenever the show starts.
Then the first anime that I watched is Code Geass. It's amazing honestly. From season 1 to season 2, they never failed to amaze me with the twists that the write made. And now I'm waiting for the season 3 to be aired ????

Powerpuff Girls were really quite popular where I live too but I was a teenager when the show was released! I still loved it though!

I can't really remember what the first cartoon would be but I am guessing it would be The Flintstones, Garfield, Yogi Bear, Chip n' Dale, The Looney Tunes Cartoons, Alvin and the Chipmunks, G Force, He-Man, GI Joe and a lot more and that would be some of the cartoons I have watched as far as I can remember. Cartoons back then are really entertaining compared to the ones airing today that is sometimes in need of parent's guidance.

My first cartoon as Tom and Jerry, my dad bought a lot of VCDs back in the day and I would watch them all repeatedly whenever I had the time. My first anime was Dragonball Z and we would always imitate Goku and his transformation while at school.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Same here. I also have Tom and Jerry as my first cartoon. When I was a kid I keep replaying the Tom and Jerry CDs that I own because I can't get enough of them. My first anime was also Dragonball Z. This anime was the reason I love anime and it has influenced almost all action animes that came after it.

Any kid born in the 80's will definitely know and be in love with Tom and Jerry because they were the king of animation and cartoon characters back then. Now, there are too many cartoons to choose from but back then, it was just a handful of them and T & J like I called them were my favorite as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I can't really remember. Maybe it's Looney Tunes. Something from the old era. I'm sure it's not like cartoons nowadays where everything is usually cute and high definition.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Looney Tunes were always the cartoons that were on TV right as I got home from school, so I've also got fond memories of those from growing up. I think most kids from that era were probably in the same boat too!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I like that show. They're very iconic. And despite the vintage look, it still has better jokes compared to modern adaptations. In fact, I wouldn't mind watching reruns of these shows. They have a big cast of characters.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
You're right - I'm sure a lot of the jokes would still make me laugh today. I think that's the sign of a good cartoon though, that it's quite timeless and still funny to a whole new era of kids.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, I like that word. It's indeed timeless. That could be the true measure of any artistic work. Not only does relevance play a huge role. It also needs to connect with people beyond its first generation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes! Looney Tunes has a big impact to us like it has a nostalgic memories to us when we were still young. I like the shows of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I remember the Legends of the Hidden Temple, although it was not a cartoon but we always watched it and tried to play that game as if we were in that Tv show.

I do not remember exactly. I watched a lot of Tom and Jerry and Heman when I was a child. I don't know which cartoon series I began watching first.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
The "Tom and Jerry Show" will forever remain a classic. The previous ones had a higher quality in terms of production value. Despite there being barely any dialogue, they capture such precise comedic timing through the use of sound effects and imagery.

It also didn't hurt that they used orchestral music instead of the modern version's cheap sound effects.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I grew up watching Tom and Jerry and my son also watches Tom and Jerry. I think this cartoon show will always be watching by every generation. I sometimes sit along with children and watch cartoon shows. The one that is popular with the children in my house is called Oggy and the Ugly Cockaroaches. This show has the likeness of Tom Jerry. However, there are dialogues.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Honestly, that's a very far comparison between the two. I feel like "Tom and Jerry" really set the bar high. "Oggy and The Cockroaches" is in no way close to the quality of production. But I can see how they look similar in terms of humor.

The execution is one of the most obvious differences. The latter is less polished compared to the classics.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I did not mean to compare Tom and Jerry with Oggy, however, the later burrows the theme and the humor. These days a lot of kids are watching Oggy, however, Tom and Jerry remain a good choice. By the way have to notice the magnitude of violence in Tom and Jerry. Once someone said to me Tom and Jerry is the most violent show ever made.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I meant that in a good way. Hahaha!

It's just very obvious how different those two shows are compared to each other. In terms of humor, "Tom and Jerry" really nailed the comedy.

The other shows feels cheesy and often not funny. But you're right. The classics were often too violent in their portrayals. The censorship back then was more flexible compared to now.

I agree with you, You won't hear a lot of words from the characters but their actions are great to make everyone laugh. Believe it or not, I still watch this cartoon on Youtube. I am glad that some of the series was uploaded. It brings back some childhood memories.

Loved Captain Planet and Sailor Moon too! I wish they'd do a remake of Captain Planet, since the message about looking after our environment is such an important one these days.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, me too, I wanted to see a remake. It will be good to have captain planet again since we need to take care of our mother nature. It teaches lessons so it is good for the little ones to watch.

I think any cartoon with a good, positive message is a great thing for kids. After all, the things we learn in childhood often shape our thinking for the rest of our lives, or at least set the foundation for it. Learning positive things when we're young is a great thing!

I remember watching Mighty Mouse when I was a kid and I was really young because all I could remember is the song. And it was all about a superhero Mouse in a world full of Cats and Mice. I really enjoyed it though, it's like a Superman but instead of a man the protagonist was a Mouse with super powers.

Alice in Wonderland, Sailormoon, Peter Pan and Snow White were the cartoon shows I've watched when I was a kid. I don't remember the first show that I watched but these characters have been part of my childhood. Watching these shows is like involving yourself in a magical world. I thought that the existence of their characters was true and their adventure could happen in the real world. But growing up, I learn that they are just fiction and their stories were just written by creative authors.

The first cartoon I watched was Cinderella followed by Beauty and the Beast. I was born in 1980's when the time was all about cartoons for the kids and basically not a high definition one. I watched those cartoons when my mother rented a couple of Video Home System Tapes or simply VHS Tapes in a nearby rental shop. I still remember when we returned the VHS Tapes and my mom needed to sign to their log book and in the index card for the records. Everything was so simple and manual in the past.

I'm not sure if what's the first Anime that I watch it but I think I watch this series at the same time. This are lupin the 3rd, dragon ball z, flame of recca and ghost fighter. Dragon ball are my favorite I always go home early after school just to watch them. DVD Are not that popular at that time so I'm waiting for them to be aired every afternoon. For the cartoons I think it would be Cinderella and Tom and Jerry.

I think my first cartoon is either teletubbies or banana's in pyjamas. Teletubbies are very cute they have this antennas on top of their head which I think now is weird. Banana's in pyjamas is very enjoying too. I remember that I keep craving for bananas whenever I watched them. My fish anime is Dragon balls and Sailor moon. There this one episode which Majinboo turn the protagonist to chocolates and he ate them. When I was a kid I wished that I have his powers so that i can eat chocolates whenever I want.

I was born in 90’s and around 2000 onwards we used to have amazing cartoon shows here in Philippines on Cartoon Network when you have a Sky cable but if you dont have you just watch it on GMA & ABSCBN. Dragon Ball, Cedie, Princess Sarah,Anne of green gables,Sakura Cardcaptor,Pokemon, Bayblade, etc were the ‘cartoons' series used to air that time. Later more new titles started airing like Digimon, Bakugan, Blue Dragon, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and then later Doraemon, Kiteretsu, Shin Chan became favourites of kids. i miss Childhood days. hays.

Anime was a big deal in my childhood. Living in the Philippines, kids my age would often run home after school just to catch the anime airing on GMA (local channel). Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, Slam Dunk, Flame of Recca, Voltes V, Daimos, Hajime no Ippo just to name a few.

I'm not sure if "Avatar: The last air bender" is considered as an anime but I also liked that series. I watched around 10 episode a night until I finished it all. I was excited when it was made into a movie but got a bit disappointed on how it turned out. We'll it was really hard to compress all those episodes into one movie so I guess it would really be different watching the series versus the movie.

The first cartoon I watched that I can remember was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer an anime from a novel by Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River in the mid-1800s. Along with his best friend Huckleberry Finn, he spends his days ditching school, fishing, climbing trees and having adventures. This series was aired and digitally remastered in our local television, I think it was way back 2008 and it's in Tagalog version. Me and my brother felt very sad watching the last episodes of the series.

That's actually a sentimental cartoon and loved that too. I can't forget Tom Sawyer's antics. He did have a way to do things. While his best friend Huck was never allowed to go out by his strict aunt which I think was a spinster if I'm not mistaken. Fun to watch but at the same time there was a melodramatic tone in it.

"Date a live" is the first anime that I have watched. If I'm not mistaken its first season is aired in 2011 and the second season is aired in 2012 it also has a movie now. I'm still waiting for the announcement for it's 3rd season because it has a very good storyline where the protagonist must date the girl in order to make her fall in love with him and lastly to kiss her in order ro save the girl form being killed. It has a superb harem that also has valuable lessons in live.

As far as I remember, my very first cartoon that I watched is no other than the old time popular cartoon Tom & Jerry. We all know that it is one of the best cartoon we ever had in our childhood days during its popularity way back few years ago. In fact, we still watch some episode of it even though we had already watched it.

Then, my very first anime that I watched is Hunter x Hunter. I got really hooked on this anime because I really like the story and the characters as well. Though, unlike other popular anime as well, hunter x hunter usually is used to get on a long break which we fans call it on hiatus. They say that it is because the mangaka or the author is really sick and he needs to be on a long rest and a proper health medication therefore he couldn't continue to write his great Hunter x Hunter. I understand that and I wish him to get well soon.

Transformers and G.I. Joe where among the first batch of cartoons that I really liked watching. I started with comics years before the cartoon series was released and I remember collecting a lot of action figures of both G.I Joe and Transformers.

The first cartoon that I have watched? I can hardly remember. What I do recall is watching cartoons during my grade school days before my service picks me up. I cannot remember their titles though. I believe it goes by the name Dog of Flanders. Similar animations came right after the series ended.

Spongebob, Ninja Turtles, Dexter Laboratory were the cartoon shows I've watched when I was a kid. Watching these shows is like involving yourself in your own world. I thought that the existence of their characters was true and their adventure could happen in the real world. But growing up, I learn that they are just fiction and their stories were just written by creative authors.

I honestly can't remember what my first anime or cartoon was. It is because TV channels in our country back then shows too much of it compared to now. However, I still can remember the first show that I liked so much and that was Spongebob. Spongebob, just like the millions of people, is also close to my heart.

Yeah. That tends to happen. Especially, during the early years where animators were producing shows left and right. So you had a lot of shows to choose from. But most of them weren't memorable enough. Spongebob is one of the few exceptions.

My very first cartoon is justice league, I don't remember it too much it was such a long time ago but all I know is that I loved it and miss those old moments. The first anime I watched is Naruto, and it is one of my favorites all though I hated one thing about it, the show contains so many flashbacks.

I liked Justice League as well. It was around the time when Teen Titans was airing if I'm not mistaken. Their animation style were very similar. I much prefer it to compared to the new art style used in various modern cartoon shows.

Naruto is one of those animes that people loved when they were still kids up to this day when they become adults. Naruto is perfect for all ages. My older brother is actually still obsessed with it.

I think that when it comes to cartoons and animation films everyone loves has watched them fondly at least during there school days. I have been watching cartoons since my childhood and I like to watch them even today. there are quite a few favorites, but if I have to name the most favorite amongst them it has to be Tom and Jerry. I think Tom and Jerry must be one of the most favorite cartoons throughout the world

I agree. So much of our younger days was spent on watching cartoons. Even older people got to watch black and white animation. So it's really become a thing since the past few decades.

Some of my favorites as a child are Tom and Jerry, Spongebob Squarepants, Rugrats and Dragonball Z. Now, I am an adult whose fond of watching anime like Food Wars, Re:Zero, Death Note, Orange, Citrus, etc.. What anime can you recommend? Please let me know.

It's probably along the lines of Tom and Jerry. This show is much older than Rugrats. Though, you might have watched reruns. Despite having lots of anime shows, I still enjoy watching old cartoons. They have a nostalgic vibe about them.

I can't remember which was the very first one I watched, but it's probably either Spongebob Squarepants, Tom and Jerry, or Mickey Mouse. I remember huddling with my cousins before the TV to watch these shows. Ah, now I remember the simplicity of life back then, haha!

As for anime, I remember watching Naruto and Inuyasha, though I wasn't really able to follow both series much. The first anime I was able to watch from start to end was Gakuen Alice or Alice Academy, and from then on I became interested in animes more than cartoons.

I like Spongebob. He's one of the funniest cartoon characters I know. It's weird that he outlasted so many modern kids shows. But I can see why. So many people have come to love this character. Even kids who grew up still do.

I agree! Even until now, my classmates and I would share our own stories of watching Spongebob during our childhood days. I even got friends who have the dialogue memorized! It's pretty cool to see how Spongebob is pretty much loved by everyone.

Oh, wow! I know the feeling. It could be because the early seasons were very iconic. Like the dialogue between Squidward and Spongebob. Those were the funniest the show had.

It makes me feel nostalgic thinking about it now. How about you?

It's Gobots. That's the other version of Transformers, I guess. Or maybe it came out first. In Gobots, there were only three good guy robots and 3 bad guy robots. But it's plot is really kind of the same as Transformers. I also remember enjoying Visionaries when I was a kid. Leoric, his friends and their animal avatars and staffs.

My first anime was 'The Noozles,' when I was very young. Also known as 'The Adventures Of Blinky Koala.' Then 'Sailor Moon' in my teens, along with 'Samurai Pizza Cats.' My first cartoon was most likely Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and those guys.

Hello!

My first ever cartoon was Mendoza, it was a strange, yet funny cartoon on CartoonNetwork. Back in the old days it wasn't so popular, so it was running very early. As a child I used to wake up in the morning, and my parents would sit me to watch it. I even now remember some images from it to this day.
