Christmas Photography Contest Ideas

Given that we are now celebrating the Christmas season, we can see a lot of special events and even the unusual ones happening around.
If you were to enter in a photography contest what would be the most notable and unique moment that you would like to capture and be your entry piece?

Mine would be a picture of a child singing Christmas carols in the middle of the street to those who are in public transport while the traffic lights are on "red". It is very common here in our country, but very strange to foreigners.

How about yours? I would love to read your entries.

I would love to take a picture of a mother who just gave birth to a child while she is carrying it with smile and tears of joy on her face. The perfect background would be a window with a lot of stars outside and the moon shining brightly. For me it symbolizes hope ad rejoice just like when Jesus was born.

I definitely think that would conjure up images of baby Jesus’ birth in the lead up to Christmas! I can’t imagine being photographed just after having a baby though - after I had my two kids I just wanted to eat and sleep!!

It would be nice. A nice shot of a mother would be great. Specially with a tears of joy.

I imagine the mother having tears in her eyes as she cuddles the baby.

I am also thinking along this part but mine is not a newborn child. It will be a kid maybe around 5-8 years old laughing while being carried by her mother and father under the beautiful Christmas lights. I would like to capture under the stars but it would be hard to find that perfect place here so the Christmas lights will do.

That is very Christmas-y. The joy that an infant brings to a family is precious. It is filled with hope, filled with love. It like dreams coming true. I would very much like a photo of this. Very beautiful.

My idea for an entry on a Christmas photography contest would be a simple one, it would just be an extended hand about to receive a pack of food. It would have a tagline that says, "Giving knows no season. Give even after this season of giving."

Many people help out others during the Christmas season but I think we should do it all year round. The world would be a much better place with all of us caring for one another more.

That’s a very moving idea and it certainly captures the true meaning of Christmas which I think can be lost on people sometimes - there often seems to be too much of a focus on consumerism these days, sadly.

It is correct. Receiving is good for Christmas. That means there is a giver or givers. Give and it she be given to you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
It is more blessed to give than to receive.

This is a great idea. I hear some people say that we should feel the Christmas spirit all-year round. Everyone should be giving and be kind everyday.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
That is the spirit of Christmas. Giving is loving. You cannot love without giving.

That's really sweet. I like your sentiment. You're right. We should also continue our good deeds even after the season ends. Just because it's not Christmas doesn't mean we won't be nice to everyone around us.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
I agree with you. We must love others even after Christmas. That is God's command to us. Love one another.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like your tagline. I hope your entry will win.

True. This is a really good idea too. Christmas is the season of giving. It would be nice if it is done outside of the Church with the Holy family as the background.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
Well, that is a very good idea. I agree that the real meaning of christmas is about giving, sharing, and spreading love. Your idea can remind people to always remember to give and share with other people. And I support you with that.

I think I’d enter a picture of snow and Christmas lights. My region of the world gets very snowy in December, but the snow creates a beauty that seems to indicate freshness and a new start. The snow also makes bright colors pop against its stark whiteness so it’s nice to photograph.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. Snow is white and pure just the way Christmas is. It is a good Christmas entry for a contest.

I always love to see pictures of White Christmas or snowy Christmas. I always want to experience that type of celebration because I live in a tropical country and I haven't been out abroad for vacation. I am still saving and hoping for a White Christmas next year.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
I agree with you. I also live in a tropical place. There is no snow in our place.

@theresajane I hope you get to experience a white Christmas someday! I also grew up in a country that never got snow, but now I live abroad for work and the amount of snow we get is crazy! It’s really magical though!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
I hope I can do that also. The problem is we don't have snow in our place.

From where I come from, we do not have snow. That is why I am always mesmerized by White Christmas photos. There is this certain majestic beauty in these photos. So calm, so serene. I could almost feel a wintry breeze. I hope I could experience a snowy Christmas someday.

A por child happily looking at a lantern hung on a big house. I think that such a photo would be a good entry because of its meaning. The poor child symbolizes innocence and hope, while the Lantern means aspirations and dreams.

The only problem is that he just stares and is given nothing. Staring is not getting. You just hope.

I would like to see a beggar given new shoes a shirt, shoes and a tie. I would like to see him pictured with food and other gifts

That’s a very moving idea for a photo. I always hope that those less fortunate also have a special Christmas and the true meaning of the season resonates with them.

An excellent idea, and moreover, has a lot of room for variations. I'd personally do what my friend always does for Christmas. He captures snowy rooftops in different ways.

This is cool as getting the pictures of the sky is pretty nice. You get to feel the nice touch of doing this as well which makes it more interesting to try. I will put it under consideration as well.

I love reading your entries. It would really be nice to have a Christmas Photography contest online as we would see the unique sides of every part of the world when it's that time of the year.
There are a lot of things that I want to capture during Christmas and a single photo is not enough to capture the uniqueness of how people celebrate it here.

I think it would be a good idea since I know that most of us are selfie lover, I think I would choose the group of children who sing in a particular house for caroling. It would be a perfect one because it would signifies the Christmas tradition that we are doing in our country.

I know what mine will be. I'd like to take a photograph of a friend who's just received his/her gift. To capture the genuine surprise in their faces. The joy that comes from feeling blessed and appreciated. That's something truly worthwhile.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

theresajane
Well, that would be nice, as a lot of people would have their own reactions upon receiving the gifts on Christmas day. It would be great also to capture each of your family member's reaction upon receiving or opening their own gifts. That would be fun.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Alania
Yeah, imagine their reaction. It would be something very unexpected for them.
The whole element of surprise is great and fun, even if it's not something "big", if you know what I mean.

It’s really special getting to see the expression on someone face when they receive a gift they’ve really hoped for. I’ve had people cry when they’ve been given gifts before because they’ve been so moved by what they’ve received. That’s pretty special if you ask me!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

emiaj55
That is very sweet. I think that you would capture the very intimacy between you and your friend as he/ she opens your gift. I think it would be a pretty special gift too since you are friends and you get each other well. These are real photo-worthy moments. This is a very nice idea.

I always want to take a picture of children waitibg for a snowflakes. I think of a child with his mouth wide open waiting for a snow to touch his tounge.

I would love to take pictures like the nativity scene. There will be a baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

We have one here on our neighborhood that is made of straw or hay. It is really creative and I even found out that it was the teenagers in our area that willingly came up with the idea and devoted time to create it. They put it beside their makeshift christmas tree that is also made out of straw then added lights to it. I would have taken a picture of it and posted it here if it weren't for the dead batteries of my phone when I drove passed it.

I've always been fond of the nativity scene and I've always envied families who have their own. I think some still do have those which they only take out during Christmas. It's one of the Christmas traditions I wanted to start for own family.

I think mine would be a photo of children getting what they really wanted for Christmas. Having their eyes light up and a huge smile on their face as they stare disbelievingly into a half open present. Excitement and happiness written all over their face. I think that's a nice memory to hold on to, the innocence, the happiness, the pure joy they have in that one moment.

My entry would be a photograph of two homeless person sharing their foods to each other with a big smile on their face on Christmas eve. Showing that no matter what your situation is, Christmas gives hope and smile to everyone.

I might just find a sheep farm and go take pictures of a manger. It'll be great that on such a day, one remembers the humbling birth of the baby Jesus in no more than a manger. It will be the perfect way to truly celebrate Christmas for the holiday that it is. A day to celebrate values and not just to eat and make merry, or exchange gifts and give children proof of Santa to keep the magic of Christmas

I would like to take some pictures of one family celebrating out side the house with food and a cake that place at the center of table with candle letters. Candles form the word of Jesus.A few lights at the back is also present or the background like christmas lights. Then I can set up my camera. The lighting should be balancing the lightness to darkness and I want to emphasis the candle lights which form the word Jesus.

Baby's / Infants are great subjects for a Christmas Photo Contest. Why not a Baby Christmas Photo Contest, in which babies would be dressed up in cute Christmas costumes.

If I will be taking a photo about christmas, I would choose a little girl opening a gift with a very big smile as my subject. It will show how satisfied she is after receiving that certain gift. I believe that the true meaning of christmas is giving and seeing other people smile. That is why I chose certain subject.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Such a wonderful idea. Taking shot of someone who expresses their emotions thru opening the gifts is a wonderful. This will really give us perception how happy are young ones receiving those gift from their parents and loved ones where in we can really see the actual reaction and see so much joy in their faces as they open there gifts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
That is the real meaning of christmas for me. Seeing other people smile because of what you did is something so genuine. No amount of money can ever reciprocate the feeling of making someone happy. I would like to make all people know that it doesn't matter on how big or small your gift is. As long as you made someone happy, it will always be enough.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
True, there's no amount of money can replace the happiness of children or someone. If it's from the heart then expensive gifts are nothing without it. And you are right, as long as they are happy even if it's just small or big amount of gifts then it's enough for us to see their happiness even if we received nothing from them.
