What type of t-shirt prints/design do you usually prefer?

As for me, it depends. I like the silk screen type of prints on shirts, and I also like the embroided ones. One thing that I don't usually like are the embossed, vinyl cut, and paper transfer prints. I don't like them because some of them would sometimes go through the cloth to the point that it really gets annoying and sometimes itchy. But I am not generalizing though. Some are very well-made and really complements the shirt too.

How about you? What type of t-shirt prints and designs to you like and don't like?

I think I would go with the silk screen as well. I don't like when the image goes through and the shirt is itchy; I am sure no one does. I also don't like the quality of the image on the tee shirt when it is poor and the image starts to shred and fade away with every wash and dry. I like tees with the bands and musicians I like on them, and I also like tees with humorous or creative messages on them. Tee shirts are just a lot of fun to have, and I have quite the collection of them which has grown and grown over the years.

Yeah, plain tees with simple text designs are my think. I also like to have simple designs but not the embossed and layered ones. You are right when you said that after a few washes they would fade and sometimes would look unappealing when they are shredded. But I would probably have a cheat-shirt kind of thing specially if it's one of my favorite shows and animes. So I sometimes don't mind having embossed whatever that is on the whole shirt. I don't like prints on the tshirt, whether it is a text print, picture print. I don't like any kind of print, whether it is embossed, embroidered, or silk screen. I like my T-shirts to be without any print. I prefer plain and simple. Since the prints wash or tears very quickly, the printed T does not last too long. Printed T also cost more and I always look for the ways to cut cost.

Mine as well, I do love the silk screen, heat transfer and probably the embroided type. All of this type of t-shirt prints can get your business more like able, mostly but also depends on the design you're creating or the one you would put on the shirt. One t-shirt printing design I don't like is the digital printing type, like when you try to print a PNG type of image, there is still a background color to match the color of the t-shirt that where you design would go. I hate it, but I don't get why people loves this type shirt and it's the most buyed type of printing shirt, but I guess it's because of it's cheapness.

Silkscreen was the grand Daddy of tshirt printing and the most used along with embroidery, I like them both but, if I have to choose I'll choose Embroidery because it's sewn on and it has a certain appeal and depth that silk screen can't give.

Yeah i agree, i had my first silkscreen when i was in grade school and it was just a leaf. Back then designing is hard because of the manual tools. Nowadays, machine's and equipment for tshirt printing is everywhere.

My favorite t-shirt are printed with words that are based in the Bible, Through wearing those shirts, Its just like witnessing to them. The Bible says that we must not be ashamed of the gospel. If we are ashamed of God on earth, he will also be ashamed of us in heaven.

Christian designed T-shirt is the best for me. Its just like announcing to the world that I am a follower of Jesus. We are salt and light of this world.

The embroidered ones are the best, to be honest with you. The only problem with them is that sometimes it can come out especially if you wear that particular t-shirt or piece of clothing a lot. It's even worse when there is a print on a t-shirt because the image/graphics will tend to wear out/fade away when you wash it.

Our firm did the one with the embroidered type and to avoid the issue of worn out, we've adopted the method of always putting it on during Wednesdays and Thursdays and it has worked perfectly well so far.

Embroidered are good but I think it is a bit expensive. Heat press shirts are also good if you want more beautiful design than silk screen. Although heat press shirts are a bit bulky on the shirt's surface.

Yeah, some are also sticky specially those rubberized ones. I have a friend that does this for business and he only use silk screen method. It's a good business by the way.

I am not too picky as long as it doesn't come through the actual shirt as you've said. I have one shirt where the print goes through it and whenever I wear it, I can feel it on my skin? It doesn't feel pleasant. I guess my favorite is definitely the silk screen though. They just look the best and feel that way as well. You can find an infinite amount of amazing designs and motives on such shirts. The best of all is that they're usually rather cheap versus some other kinds. Emroided ones aren't bad either but I only have 2-3 of those.

Yeah that really is annoying. It's like every time you move around you feel it often and sometimes you are not sure what to feel, like if it is tickling or itching. Silk screen is definitely the way to go. Although I've heard about this laser t-shirt printing but I haven't had any idea how it looks and how it feels though.

I prefer to wear cotton shirts with no embroidered design on it because whenever I wear one with embroidered design, I get allergies because its really rough under the shirt. I prefer light colored prints or designs against dark colored ones.

For me it's less about the medium and more about the design itself. Each method produces something wonderful when employed thoughtfully. I really enjoy t shirts with designs that appear distressed. Newer designs which wrap around the sides of the shirt also catch my eye. I have been looking for a printing company who can mass produce these types of shirts based on my designs but I keep coming up short.

One of my favorite shirts was created through a method called batiquing . They are made by using wax to cover parts of the shirt you do not wish to be dyed and then dipping them in buckets of pigment, not entirely unlike tie dye. You then remove the wax with an iron and a soaking medium like newspaper before moving on to the next step of your design.

Good info! Thanks for sharing! Is that method still widely used as of today? If so, are they still in demand these days? I am thinking that lazer printings have taken over the classic methods of printing and doing designs on tees and other clothings.

I am unaware of anyone who is doing this en-mass, but I don't claim to be a fashionista, either. Batiquing is a very rustic form of design that originated from Indonesia. Don't let that fool you though; the art-form itself can produce very intricate designs that have a very distinct look. You could almost think of it as tie dying with more control.

Painterly,
I agree that the design is what is most important. As a matter of fact, I would definitely endure a scratchy t-shirt if it had a message or design on it that really helped me to express myself as I walked around wearing it. I have never heard of "batiquing"--that is really cool. You have taught me a cool new word and cool new concept today--thanks!

It's a lot of fun, too! You won't produce professional results without a few specific materials and tools, but you can make something you'd enjoy wearing with the basics. Lighter materials are often better suited for the process since it is easier to remove the wax so you can end up with a few very unique summer shirts with a single batch of materials.

It's like tie-dying but instead of strings the shirt is covered with wax. Interesting but I think its quite hard to make. There's no shortcuts to it. Anything less than the original way of doing it won't bring out the desired result.

Simple and sleek, everyone appreciates great drawing ability and attention to detail. There is nothing better than seeing a really well executed masterpiece on a tee, that you can study for hours.
But equally, some of the most classic designs have been the simplest and get the message across through their simplest form.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

galegatling
True. I like to have the details and messages in the simplest form because I don't want people to be staring at my shirt. Makes me uncomfortable although that is the point of having a design. I want people to just have a glimpse of the design and wouldn't stare long. At least it won't look creepy and all.

I used to like elaborate designs on my shirts, but nowadays I think those types of shirts are a little out of the trend. I see a lot more shirts now that have simpler designs, and I think I like those a lot more now. Simple graphics that don't scream out too much for attention appeal a lot more to me now, and those designs that have too much going on kind of just feel like a little bit trying too hard to get my attention, and it ends up just putting me off which is the opposite of what the shirt supposedly should be doing which is to make the wearer more pleasant to the eyes. I would say the best rule of thumb is to just make the designs simple. Not saying that elaborate designs are completely bad, or that shirts should only ever have a few design elements in them, but there should always be a balance so that even elaborate designs don't end up feeling too cluttered or too loud.

Yeah. Nowadays, often the simplest designed tees can attract more attention rather than those with very expressive designs. Some people even wear neon printed shirts just for them to be noticed lol. I often wear t-shirts with plain texts or wordings on it. I think it looks so simple yet says a lot.

I prefer the colors black or grey for a t-shirt design. Red and Blue can work but I'm not a HUGE fan of those colors for a t-shirt. But more importantly - the materials are what matter to me. They should be quality. Not shrink or fade after a few washes.

Same here I like black or gray. I liked a small print also and this print is all about a words of wisdom. It gives extra positive vibes.

I don't like floral and designs with more than 3 colors, i think it's too colorful. I like to wear a plain shirt with a small colored design of up to three colors only.

On the subject of branding, paper transferred branding onto a t-shirt is the worst. If you're very young, you probably won't mind but the older you get, the more you desire quality t-shirt printing.
