It's so popular in our country. It's like every friend that I have on social media has their business online. They post a lot of stuff like food an clothes for them to sell.

Vietnam is very similar, I don't think I've used an actual website or app to order food in ages. Every business has a Facebook account and often times it's free compared to any app or website that might charge a percentage of the money made.

Facebook is one stop shop now like a store. You can search there and everything will come out.

Yes. But are products posted in Facebook reliable? Shouldn't it still be better to purchase from well-known online stores? Most of the products I see on facebook are unknown.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
I am not sure about the quality of the products that are selling there. I think it depends to the seller if they are reliable on what they are selling. I would suggest you to shop in Ebay wherein almost good items are in there.

I would have to agree that Facebook is very cost efficient if you make it a platform for your business. It's also fun to interact with customers using Facebook and Facebook Messenger because you can take a peak of their profile and learn things.

The place where I regulary get shoes made does this lol. They run an instagram account with the most gorgeous shots of shoes I have ever seen and when you schedule an appointment with them, they look at your instagram profile so they know what you're like and what recommendations to make for shoe styles.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree to that. Instagram is one way to. They just post a photo of the item then just wait for the comments. Easy but effective.

Yeah. I actually shopped in Instagram and it was good and authentic item. The transaction was smooth and I loved the way they handled their customers.

It's amazing how you, and everyone else mention only Facebook. I'm very grateful, because nowadays to maintain a business you wouldn't need anything else to promote it with the exception of Facebook. Just advertise there and you're good to go! And guess, it's FREE!

This is very true. We could buy internationally and locally. They do deliveries too. They could chat in real time to address your queries and orders. You could even buy mobile loads and do mobile banking in messenger so you could process your payments there. You could practically do every transaction on Facebook these days.

I am starting to think every business needs a Facebook page, a twitter and a blog on their website. Keeping the client involved in some way beyond the sale seems to be key. What does annoy me is business emails. I suspect most people prefer to decide on the level of contact they have. If I can chat on a site about the product and make a few comments on twitter, or Facebook about the product, I keep involved.

It seems that these days a business would rather have you email them or message them over some type of service rather than provide a phone number to contact. Personally, I do not mind it but it can make communicating a problem ineffective if it's something that would be better described over a phone call.

Althought I agree entirely on the Facebook part, but in my honest opinion YouTube is far more superior. The weakest for me would be Twitter and Instagram, as I don't use them. Personally I'd say YouTube's videos are far more attractive to the eye, rather than an ad on Facebook.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Alymae
I do think this way. Especially in my line of work, a resort is better advertised as a video on Youtube. But I used Facebook too because they are different and they bring different audiences. As for my line of work, it is best to make use of every platform that is available.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It really depends on your business and target audience, I think. Twitter and Instagram are my preferred platforms and I only even use Facebook now because of the country I am residing. You're right about YouTube though, that can really make or break a business as well as create another income stream if you have enough people watching your videos.

I haven’t personally used social media for any sort of business, but I do know the value of social media when it comes to online marketing.

My aunt used to own a second-hand clothing store, and I actually managed her social media account. Until I started managing her account, business was going okay but fairly slow. Once I opened up an account for her and started posting articles of clothing and different sales/offers, a lot more people started visiting her store.

I know that if I were to ever start my own business I’d definitely be very active with social media.

I agree with you. Creating an account in social media alone will not help you totally. You must make your account alive and look like you operating a booking business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I concur with you Theresa. The main factor is the ability to communicate with the audience, which is very important. The content of a business can be great, the marketing and the prices, but it all fades if the business not willing to communicate with the customers.

So much of it comes down to social media allowing people to know a business actually exists! There are so many cool businesses doing a whole host of unique things, but if they don’t promote themselves well then no one is going to know they’re out there!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
That’s exactly the reason why so many companies funnel massive amounts of money into marketing.

I remember recently I was reading about the financial aspects within the video game industry. I had no idea that some video game developers spend a greater portion of their budget on advertising and marketing than they do on actual game development.

I suppose the same would go for just about any product. There is almost no point in investing time and effort into something if no one is going to know about it.

Well social media nowadays have so many users which businessman and freelancers take advantage of. Even companies are required to have one because of the overwhelming number of potential buyers or customers online. It is for me the fastest way for you to advertise and promote. It is also the cheapest way instead of making a banner or paying for a commercial.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Why of course, social media is a must if you have a business. In fact, it's the best way to promote something you got. It's even better than buying ads or billboards in your city (which are very expensive). Myself, as a young person, I never looked at billboards. But Facebook commercial and articles always catch my eye. So yeah, I'd say social media is a must.

Well I had used social media for promoting my blogs, and sell Ebooks. I guess if you are building a brand, I think that social media sites could be of great help. Just figure out your best system for taking orders and delivery. Then create and promote your page. But if you have the resources, I learned that creating a dedicated website for your brand is a wiser thing to do. It creates an illusion that you are already a well established brand promoting on Facebook and that helps increase in sales.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
You are right in saying that if you have limited resources concentrating on social media to build your brand would be a wise thing to do. But if you do have the resources, having your own website and also having a shadow site in various social media platforms would greatly help you in establishing your brand.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

emiaj55
I found this trick online when I was just starting my online business. If your brand is new and never heard of, customers online may have doubts trusting you for fear of being scammed. But having a dedicated website with all the proper information about your company and your product to how it works and your customer support (even if the customer support was just also you), will help ease those doubts. Plus having those websites where you could put ads such as google adsense will give you another source of profit.

These kind of business is really trending these days. Its what actually in demand I say because if one friend of yours seen your post about your business and they try to help you to repost it again then a friend of that person is actually looking for that kind of product. It helps you find more clients and buyer every time you post it. And make sure you are always active to your social media so you can always check if you have some inquire about it so you can respond right away to them.

Social media has undoubtedly become the most powerful tool for online marketing these days and the individuals or companies who do not make the use of SociaL media to promote there products and services do lose a huge chunk of there potential customers. However, merely creating an account on Social Media platforms is not sufficient to use it as a marketing tool. One has to be active on these platforms and create a goodwill among his friends and followers before he is able to use it to market his products and services on these platforms.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's true, some newbies think that just by creating a page or a group in Facebook it would bring success automatically. That is wishful thinking. You need to regularly post quality content in it, do a lot of sharing and commenting for your page or group to attract traffic.

I agree, and one of its most powerful tool for me is the ability to target your audience regarding marketing campaigns. Having the ability to screen your market based on age, gender, location, etc. is very helpful. And in other countries like India, the government is taking steps to protect its citizens from Facebook's predatory plans (offering to install internet service but insisting that everyone makes a Facebook, giving people free access to Facebook only on phone plans, making the consumers reliant on Facebook for communication). How do companies stay ahead of the negative opinions people have of Facebook and the switch to other platforms?

Social media literally saved my sister's small business. She went from selling goods to her friends, to now be having a little online store that handles basically by Instagram. So, I would definitely recommend social media to anyone who wants to open a new business, or if you want to upgrade a current one you have. Is not easy to make it popular online, but you can start by adding your family members, they will add their friends, and so on you will create a chain reaction.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's really great. Social media can really be a big deal, but one click too can destroy a business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Totally true. I saw a very sad experience on Instagram, where the owner of a liquor store offered some kind of sale, the problem was the percentage off he was dealing with, because he typed it wrong, so customers where somehow legally demanding, due to the fact that they payed online and the offer was published without any correction. That generated a huge lost for the owner and business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Honestly, that's like creating a chain reaction. What you need to do, is to create your own account and invite/follow your friends/family, in that moment you will ask them to help you out, by promoting your account with their immediate contacts. That's how my sister began, and nowadays she has her small store on Instagram.

I did not use social media to start my home business projects because the information I read about starting a business did not suggest doing it that way. I was a newbie and no experience. The only thing I had going for me was the fact that I knew how to read! I started using a free Do-It-Yourself website builder app. Why? Because we were broke and my husband wasn't willing to take money from the small savings that we did have to try some hair-brain scheme of making money online. If it weren't for the fact that my sons use the Internet so they are willing to pay for the service, I would probably be using the Internet service provided in a public library. My kids gave me a second-hand computer and I started business. I built a website and the first thing I noticed was nobody would visit it because I had not advertised it.

What was the next step? I tried those free classified ads. That was a waste of time. The next step after trying the classifieds was social media. I picked Facebook not because I knew it was the greatest or the best. I picked it because everybody was talking about it. From there I tried Twitter. After that, I tried any social networking site that would let me create a free account: LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.

A decade later and the rest is history. The best way to build your reputation and your brand is to engage with other people on social media. Everyone on social media is a potential friend, customer, client or even a business partner. Sometimes you meet somebody and find out you can work together, pool your talents and resources, and get a lot further.

Social media is like the yellow brick road. Only it doesn't lead to the Land of Oz. It leads to the Land of OPPS. Short for opportunities. (Image credit: clker.com)

Almost everyone these days have access to social media, and with that being said it's a cheaper alternative to putting up ads when you can just share everything on your own timeline, eventually more and more people will share your posts and you'll gain new customers.

Lots of people are selling stuff using Facebook and Instagram. The transaction happens by agreement thru message though unlike most online shopping sites where you check your self out. It's also hard to post a negative comment on their page sometimes. When a brand has garnered so much trust from many people, they'll help defend your brand at all costs. I've seen people trash a negative comment for something genuinely wrong on the brand's part. Like a miscommunication on the item sold.

If you're a social media expert, meaning if you're logging 4 hours minimum per day in your fave social media site for years now, then you can pretty much know how to earn a lot from it right? There's a lot of ways to use and monetize your Facebook account for example. You can post and sell, create a shop, post and advertise your links and a lot more.

Facebook is easier because they've kept their formula the same since its conception. Twitter on the other hand, has undergone multiple site makeovers since launching in 2008 I think. With yet another one, on the way soon.

Social media sites are great platforms for any businesses. You can advertise your products or services to a large volume of crowd. You can also interact directly to your buyers and most of all you can generate traffic directing to your sites. Social media sites are also cheaper. You don't have to rent a place, you don't need to hire cashiers and other staff.

I tried starting my own business on Facebook and Instagram, it looked easy at first because well everything is on your computer or mobile phone but it's hard to do if you're starting from "ZERO" followers so I used Facebook/Instagram Ads to boost my business and it helped A LOT. I recommend it during the early days or months just to help people become aware of a new business.

With over 2 billion people on Facebook alone there's no way a good product wouldn't sell. It needs the enterpreneur to package the product well to attract the target market.
