Do you still use business cards?

I wonder if a lot of people still print business cards and give them out or do we do this one now virtually, too? If so, do you take a lot of time in designing and making sure your card looks good or conveys what you are as a professional?

Using business cards are one of the simple type of advertisement. Business cards are somehow important for me to those you just have met and that person doesn't have an Internet access to look for you but if you gave your business card, they already can see your details and what you offer. They don't need to waste time to search for you.

I actually haven't tried using or even printing business cards. It never even crossed my mind. But, I still know some who use it. One of them is my cousin who works abroad. It actually depends on your line of work. Well, for me, business cards are not of importance.

I think if you're working for a big corporation and often have to travel internationally for work, business cards can be really important. You don't always have a pen and paper on you to exchange contact information if you meet a new client, and a business card with all that pertinent information can be exceptionally handy in making connections.

True. Despite the digital age, business cards are still very important. It would be a hassle to always bring a pen and paper to write your name and contact information. My old boss brings business cards everywhere he went. He said that it is an effective marketing strategy, especially in events. You cannot talk to everyone but you can give your business card. So, your business card should be well-made.

I agree with you. A business card is still useful especially for those who have businesses. I find it as an easier way to provide your contact information than having your clients check your website just to contact you. A business card can be kept on a wallet and have it anytime they need to check your information.

Well, as much as I respect your opinion, I would have to disagree with you on saying that using business cards is useless. It's not really because there are still some clients who aren't internet wise, so they can't reach you through making use of the internet but with the hard copy business card, they will be able to contact you with ease.

Some people consider business cards a thing of the old but from where I stand, it's still very much useful and important when you want people to have access to contacting you easily.

Now, the use of the internet and social media sites have limited the use of business cards but it's not yet obsolete or extinct.

I agree with you. Business cards are still in use. Even with social media sites, some companies and government offices are still using business cards.

In such offices, business cards are used by the bosses, because that is the easiest way of sharing their job or personal contacts. Otherwise, some are busy and their social media accounts are handled by personal assistants. For direct contact, you will always be given a business card.

"... For direct contact, you will always be given a business card.... "

Exactly! Whenever you are issued a business card, it means you have been given a direct access to contacting the business head because 90% chances is in favor of having the direct contact of the business owner and not the staff.

I do think it can be awkward if someone asks for a business card and then you don't have one to give. Often, it's just an expectation that if you run a business (or freelance) that you're going to be able to provide a business card that has contact details and a website address. If you don't have those to provide, you can often be forgettable.

Business cards can be useful even if you are working online as a freelancer. Let say you work on Fiverr as a web developer. You have a business card and you give it to a person you are meeting for the first time. Then one day he needs someone to do some programming work, he remembers you and checks your business card. He checks you fiverr profile and is very impressed with your portfolio. He will hire you. You gain an an offline client through a business card.

Even in the age of the internet and networking the customised contact of shaking hands and exchanging business cards do wonders for a enterprise transaction. I used to give away business cards until I realized it was a waste of money and paper. People usually receive your business card, proceed to put it into their wallet or pocket, and never look back at it again. Which is why I now take out my phone, connect with them on LinkedIn, and I am able to establish a better professional relation with others.

Of course! Business cards can make or break a first impression, they're the first indicator of who you are as a professional. Sometimes you meet people while in daily life and regret not having an easy way to give them your information so they can contact you. My business cards- since I'm in environmentally focused work- are on recycled paper and my information is surrounded by leaves. You wuld not believe the response I get to them! Other people wish they had thought of the idea and it helps to translate excatly how commited I am to my field that I would go out of my way to hunt down and spend more money on recycled paper business cards!

My specific area of the field is very young compared to other areas and the other young professionals whom I meet and network with are incredibly impressed by the thought I put into my marketing. Social media and online pages are important but young people recognize when that online image doesn't translate into reality.

A lot of contractors still use business cards also. However these days, I do wonder how many business cards that are accepted by a client, are thrown away later on after they tag you on social media. Your business card has all of your information on it such as official site, facebook page, twitter, etc. So perhaps, once the client has bookmarked your site and has followed or friended you on social media, they might just toss your card to prevent clutter. Business cards might not be a way to stay connected as much these days, as they are an avenue to make a digital connection later on.

Business cards can be handy. In itself alone, it could be a powerful tool. But in order to create such effective business card one must not only focus on the decorations on the card but its function. The card must then be filled with essential info without overcrowding. Business cards are handy in conferences too. Partner it with first impressions, business cards can often close the deal on the first encounter without the client realizing it. On the hands of a capable entrepreneur a business card is still a powerful weapon.

having both printed business card and a virtual one really helps a lot in promoting your services. The printed one could be use when you have met someone in person while the virtual one could be displayed online for public view. That way you'll have both kind of customer which you can cater your service to.

I’ve personally never used business cards because I never actually established my own business. When I did freelance design I kind of just took whatever work I happened to find online.

That being said, the efficacy of business cards kind of depends on where you’re from. For example, when I lived in New York City, it was almost worthless giving someone a business card. You’d give someone your card hoping they’d contact you for work, but more often than not the card would end up in the trash.

On the other hand, I’ve read that business cards are incredibly important in Japanese culture. Business cards are highly regarded and respected over in Japan, and I think that certainly makes a difference with regards to how often they’re actually saved and used.

In my opinion it's always better to have a business card that you can give out to clients or other people. It's easy to lose a contact on your phone book as sometimes we might forget to hit save or just can't find the person's name anymore because of the many names added there. And it does feel and look more professional to give out cards. But yes I've used it, and I will do so again if ever the need arises Do you still use business cards?
