Cartoons from a photo

I want to convert images of my cat into cartoons for a book. What size should they be for an ebook, and what is the best image convertor to use?  I could use the original pictures in a  eBook, but in print, the cost would be prohibitive. Cartoons would also be in keeping with a light hearted cat diary.

I think so too. It's so cool. I've never thought about turning images into cartoons. I guess I'm not that up to date with new apps. This is probably why there are so many animators nowadays.

I also imagine animation to be much faster nowadays. I used to wonder why it took so long for cartoon shows to release new episodes. I found out that it was painstakingly difficult and long process.

I'm also amazed by the many new animated movies we're getting. It's like they can now produce cartoons as much as live action ones. I'm excited for more sequels to our beloved series.

I hope we can all try it soon. It's best for those who know a little more about editing. But with the software these days, pretty much any of us can learn to use it. Especially, if we're dedicated enough.

What I do I just edit it on photoshop or make vector of the photo. Well for me it needs effort to create a detailed vector but you posterize the image so that it will look like a vector one though . If you don't want to waste effort then you may want to try the link from @theresajane's comment.

I haven't tried out turning photos to a cartoon one and I find it very interesting. You gave me such a wonderful idea that I could also use for my content, thanks for that. As for the size, that depends on your preference. It also depends on the size of the ebook you would want to print out. The larger the picture, the greater you would have to spend for printing.

Image size would depend on your content. for example, if you want your readers to focus on your cat you could use a whole or half page. Others do it in 3-4 pcs. in alternate left and right. But if you are thinking of publishing your E-book on a specific platform, you should check out if they have specific rules for images. For example, in Kindle, they require images to be of 300 pixels at least. Any lower would not be permitted.

I think the size depends no how you want the images to have an impact in your e-book. If it is to just add up some spices then small sizes are enough but if you are referring to what can be seen or what is happening in the image, I suggest you give it a larger space in your e-book. Good luck.

This is going to sound a bit rough, but I need to put it bluntly: you don’t want to be using an image converter or some sort of Photoshop filter in order to create your cartoons. It simply isn’t going to look professional and will drag down the production value of your eBook.

You really should get a graphic designer to do the artwork for you. It doesn’t even need to be someone expensive. Go on Fiverr or check out the marketplace here, and find someone offering an illustration service for as little as $5 an image. There are plenty of talented artists willing to take that work for such a low cost, and it’ll pump up the quality of your eBook far higher than any image converter/filter ever could.

Hey there!
It might be hard, but it sounds like a fun idea. I'd like to convert my photos to cartoons too. But obviously for a book or so it must look professional. You could ask a friend who has knowledge in artwork.

When turning images into cartoons, I usually manually adjust them on Photoshop. You can also try applying the filters on Photoshop! Personally I'm more satisfied with Photoshop's filters compared to other online tools - and the filters are adjustable, too.

There's a hundred apps and sites which you can use to convert photos to cartoon like images. Some are really good while others are just like filters which really isn't that good looking. So it's your choice just try and try until you find what's right for you.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but several years ago I came across a tool called "Cartoon Yourself". I'm pretty sure you could probably Google that phrase and come up with some tools you could use to help you accomplish creating a cartoon from a photo.

Just watch YouTube videos, in my case I was finding a profile picture in YouTube and I don't want the actual picture of mine to be putted in there so I watch a YouTube tutorial on how to do it by using Adobe Photoshop because I already have that program installed in my computer. So I just followed the tutorial on YouTube and I was able to cartoonize myself.

I believe there are numerous apps and websites that "capture" a specific image, and then transform it into something you desire. Obviously, those you pay for are better, but I suggest you to try out those that are free, because you'll get the basic idea of what you wanted and expected.
