Can you make animation in Photoshop CS6?

I am using Photoshop CS6 for making a simple logo but I wonder if I can create a simple animation to it. My Photoshop knowledge is too basic, I learned it by watching tutorials in Youtube. I am planning to do a vlog, so I'm thinking of adding some animation to it. Can Photoshop CS6 be a big help or should I try other software that is easier to used?

It's going to take a long time for you to make an animation using Photoshop. It's like doing the manual way of animating back in the day. You draw each frame one by one to make your figure move and that's very time consuming. You're limiting yourself by doing this.
I've done that using MS Paint and Windows Movie Maker back in the day. I was just a kid back then and I didn't bother to study animation programs. It was just a hobby of mine.

True. It's a hassle to make animations on a photo editing software. I believe Adobe has a software where someone can edit video animations instantly like the Adobe After Effects or maybe the Adobe Premiere Pro.

I would also love to get to use the adobe softwares properly especially in editing images and creating animations. The editing software is great and it can help me to push my content online by invoking my own creativity.

True. You can do a lot from learning these softwares. In fact, in a recent article I read, it seems like even elementary school students are learning to use Photoshop. It's really an indemand skill in the workplace.

Wow that is awesome. When kids are taught such invaluable skills at an early age it helps them later in life as they can be able to cultivate the designing culture and better their skills as they age.

Exactly. Adobe Creative Cloud or the softwares they have for editing are totally very helpful especially that services for graphic design and editing is in demand these days. And yes, it's being taught to kids nowadays. However it's not true for most developing countries like here in the Philippines. Majority of the schools here don't have computers and so they can't offer ICT class, and if they do the only thing they'll teach to kids is how to manipulate Microsoft Office and that's it.

I also have my doubts about the teaching of such in my region as there are numerous schools that have no electricity let alone computers. I am optimistic nonetheless that they can find such lessons in the near future.

I can totally relate with your region's situation. We also have rural areas here who doesn't have electricity and worse aren't given solar panels by the government. However, just like you, I also believe in the power of development and I wish that those rural areas could also get an access to electricity which could also give them an access to this kind of technology that might definitely help them to improve their living conditions.

I grew up in the Philippines and a work around I did was just install a pirated version. Even the rich people I know buy their copies from the roaming Indian vendor of CDs. Even the least powerful computers now can run Photoshop and most people now have copies of Photoshop on their hard drives. Tutorials are everywhere on Youtube. So it's really an advantage for the kids of today compared to when I was a kid.

Well not really, there are private schools in the Philippines who teaches those those programs you mention, but in public schools though they only teach basic Microsoft word and or typing skills, but Colleges here in Philippines teaches those programs, I'm an IT student and in my school they teach Adobe Premiere, After effects, and Adobe Flash which is known now as Adobe Animate.

Adobe Premiere Pro is where i do most of my editing and little touch on my videos and it quite fun and easy editing with it and have also learn more when just flexing the site doing a free touch on my videos.

I once edited a video using a free platform but I was later on discouraged when after finishing the site had to embed their own advertisements that were not removable unless one subscribed and made a payment. The video was great but the advert was a real turnoff.

That is so bad, I can't imagine your expression that day it happened but sure it won't be pleasant, I did my own editing on a subscription but currently I don't have the money to maintain it.

It was for a serious presentation and we lost a lot of marks just because we failed to have a video that was perfect and the logo was the biggest defeat that the software had.

I once use premier. If you could drag and drop, premiere is simple. One of the most fundamental shortcuts is C for cut. It’s a razor blade and you could move nuts with it. Your default pointer is the V shortcut. however be cautious. There are instances wherein the incorrect click can take you someplace you don’t need to be. And for that you will need Adobe’s tutorials.

Yea thats true, Premier is fun and easy when editing a video because they have great features than most editing software.

I use Photoshop solely for editing purposes. Making your project in it takes an awful lot of time and it ain't advisable more so if you're planning to use it to make animation. I wouldn't recommend doing that.

You just made me remember how long it took for me to make my first photo editing on Photoshop, I wasn't comfortable with whatever I do to the photo and I spend time on it that it took me days to complete it.

Agreed. It will really take too much time and effort to create an animation using Photoshop. It would be better if you will find an another application to use in order to create animations. So that it won't cause too much time of yours.

Yes I think. You can animate using CS6. You can search tutorials in youtube on how you will be able to do that. I think you should try it but you can use it in Adobe After Effects and just look for some tutorials in Youtube. At first I really didn't know adobe after effects but then I have tried to look for some tutorials there and I manage to create a simple animation in After Effects.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
You can do it making use of Adobe After effects as this is going to be difficult when it is not a simple gif made on photoshop. Could you please drop the link of the best tutorial that I can check on YouTube about the issue.

I have a classmate who used to animate gif using photoshop but only simple one. Yeah you are right if its a complicated animation it's recommended to use other software such as after effects.

I have also find it very difficult to do my editing with Photoshop and sometimes i become very frustrating that i just quite trying and leave the video that way until i got the Adobe After Effect and Pro that i was able to complete most of my bulk videos.

You can edit a picture for anime in Photoshop but I don't think that animation will be okay, coz photoshop use only for editing a picture.

Photoshop is primarily a photo editing software, so the animations capabilities of the program are pretty limited. As far as I know, you can animate GIFs in Photoshop, but anything more intense than that will have to be done with After Effects or a similar program.

If an animated GIF is all you need, feel free to check out this blog post, or follow along with the instructions they provide below:

Or check out this short video on YouTube:

Thanks for this update on how to create animated GIF using Photoshop. I'm definitely going to try it out and see how good the first animated GIF which I'm going to make would look like.

The YouTube video clip is most helpful, it's going to assist me a lot in getting the job done.

Making an animation with photoshop is not going to be that easy for you as I think that you are going to put a whole lot of efforts in getting such done. I would suggest that you look for another software that is going to be easier for you to perform such a task.

I never tried using that application. I will definitely give it a try and see if its good or not. Animation is something that I need to try but I need to gather more information on how to choose the right application.

As far as I know, Adobe Photoshop's main purpose is for photo editing. As for the animation, well, technically yes, you can do it, but it'll take time and you'll be consuming your time creating a lot of tabs or frames and putting them together to create a moving photo. How about using After Effects. My colleague once told me, you can do everything with After Effects, imagination and skills are only the limit.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, I agree with you, because you can't do animation on photoshop, the purpose of it is only to manipulate photos with your desire.

I haven't tried making an animation using Photoshop. From the research I have made so far on using Photoshop to complete the task of animation, it seems to be a very difficult task.

Maybe some people have been successful in doing so but I haven't given it a try to know if it's going to be easy for me or not.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Because you can't make animation on photoshop, it can only use to edit photos but making an animation to it won't work. Because it has no options for animations.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

There's a right software that can use for animations and I think Photoshop doesn't have a setting for animations.

I agree with you. That's why it's called as Photoshop because you only are able to edit photos on the app. They can try using After Effects though, it's still a product of Adobe.

Phortoshop is good for creating graphics, editing images and manipulating images, You can create animations on photoshop, however, the animations on photoshop are basic. If you want to do animation, you have to try a software that are actually created to do animation.

Yes you can create an animation through Photoshop. There are also lots of tutorial on how you do it in the internet. I made my GIF's on photoshop that I put on my websites.

You can definitely use Photoshop to create animations, but it isn’t really the tool I’d use for anything beyond a couple of frames.

For example, I used to use Photoshop to create pixel sprite animations. I used to create pixel art in Photoshop, and since most pixel animations typically don’t require more than a couple of frames that are looped, there was no point in me going through the effort of exporting the content into another program.

Photoshop has a timeline option where you can create frames out of visible layers. The tutorial above has pretty much all the information you could need.

Photoshop can do a lot of things, but animation is not one of them. At best, it can produce a small time project. But if you want to do a major animation project, you'll need a better tool.

If you are thinking of doing just simple animations, you might want to check out Pencil and Creatoon. They only work with 2D though.

I think Photoshops is mainly used for editing photos and not for creating animations. I suggest thatbyou should find other applications that could really help you in creating animations. As you said, you will have to do it manually and that may take more time and effort in order to finish one project. There are a lot of other applications out there that could help you on this matter.

Hey there!
Yes, you could. But ideally there are other better and more suitable softwares for this job. Just google top 10 animation making softwares and pick one. Photoshop itself is okay, but has an entirely different job, so making an animation would complicate things, as you'll have to do extra work.

I am also wondering about this. Thank you for posting. I learned a lot from other user. What I do know is making animations in Adobe is somehow complicated compared to other applications which was made entirely for doing that. It is also fun to try different applications and choose which best suits your capabilities.

Instead of using Photoshop CS6 for animation just use Adobe Animate CC your life will be a lot easier, just search download that program and search online on how to use it, in today's world nothing is really impossible, there's a lot of information out there, just be persistent and don't give up easily because in my case sometimes I easily get lazy watching and following tutorials, take breaks if you feel tired and come back when you feel refreshed.
