For me they are the same when it comes to tools but its just that for me, I am more comfortable using the photoshop. I used GIMP before since I don't know Photoshop at that time. After someone introduce the adobe to me, that was the time where in I started using photoshop until now.

That's just the truth. Photoshop offers you a whole lot of comfortably features that you can make use to make out the best designs that you want. I believe that this is the only way to have fun doing what you enjoy to do best.

Yeah. And Photoshop has a lot of features especially the latest versions. What I love about photoshop is that, it's not only for photo editing or photo manipulation but you can also draw digital or vector. You can also create or make an object a 3d or you can animate or create moving pictures or GIF.

That is true and one of the good sides is that you get to learn a lot along the line. I have not really come to see the best way that you can get to achieve something graphics goals without making use of Photo shop. It has got a lot of things with it as well.

I am familiar with Photoshop. I have not tried GIMP yet. I will try to compare both tools.

Yes, you can download it for free and that's the good side of GIMP since you have to pay before you can download the full version of Photoshop. You must try it since its just free.

I am not familiar with GIMP. I only know Photoshop and I am not planning to change or jump. Photoshop is well-established especially for those who love to edit photos and such.

That's alright. You don't need to know GIMP as they are more likely the same. Sticking to one software is a good thing but you can still try it if you want but don't force yourself. Photoshop is enough as it has a lot features than GIMP. I have known this GIMP as this was the first editing software I used before I knew Photoshop.

I do think both are great, but for me it's a value for money thing. To me GIMP does what I need to do without any subscription fees, and as a start up/small business I think that's a huge thing. Wherever you can save money is helpful, and using GIMP over Photoshop can be one way to do that.

Interestingly, I knew about GIMP only when I began using photoshop. Since I already had phtoshop program on my computer and used photoshop for image editing, I never felt the necessity of using GIMP. However, I did study GIMP closely an found that the program does exactly what Photoshop does. However, the interface of GIMP is really ugly. The floating interface is not very good.

Yes, you can do that in GIMP. I still prefer photoshop so I have found ways on how to install Photoshop with full version without paying anything. You just need to download the amtlib. anywhere in torrent depends on the version of Photoshop you want to install. After you download, you replace the original amtlib. in Photoshop folder located in Program files. I don't know if it still work. It works for me in CC.

If you are not paying, you are using the program illegally. Using program illegally is highly discouraged. Torrent was designed to transfer large files across internet. However, it is being used for piracy and illegal downloads. If you cannot pay the full price for Photoshop you can try Photoshop Elements, which is a student edition of photoship that can be purchased for less than $100. The program does everything that a photoshop can do.

edencaga
Yeah maybe you're right. I know it's illegal and I should't do that. Someone just told me about that thing and I followed her. I just did it once and I will not do it anymore as it's against the law. Thank you for giving me advice, I'll take that as a positive advice.

Even in my country, a lot of people use torrent for illegal downloads. They also use cracked versions of programs like Photoshop. Some people doing this because they do not know about this, where as some people are using pirated copy of the program because they cannot pay for original version of the program. CS6 cost around $700 and this is a lot of money in my home country.

It feels like GIMP is a very good free alternative to Adobe Photoshop. You can do most of the things that can be done with Photoshop, especially if you are doing a rush project and you have no computer within reach that has Photoshop installed.

I am no graphic designer, but I knew a few people who are. They say that GIMP really is in no comparison to Photoshop due to the latter's more extensive variety of tools. Although, GIMP is not that bad for entry-level or straightforward image editing. However, it cannot entirely do everything compared to what Photoshop can. But for us regular people, it's totally fine.

I have never used GMIP much, therefore, I cannot say much regarding how GIMP compares with Photoshop. I have used GIMP, however, I have not explored i much I have explored photoshop. I have used photoshop to create logo, banners, posters as well photo editing. I have not only done simple photo editing such as light and color correction, but also air brishing and image manipulation on photoshop. I believe GIMP should be in consideration as it is an open source and constantly improving.

Yes, GIMP is entirely for free and will be an excellent tool for someone who only wishes to simple-edit a few graphics here and there. Of course, if you are threading the graphic designer career path, you should utterly go for Photoshop or Illustrator.

You can continue using GIMP even if you want to become a professional designer. GIMP is as powerful as Photoshop. It is free does not mean it is not good. GIMP is an open source program and it is continuously progressing. I have seen graphics created on GIMP and these graphics are as good as the ones created on photoshop. IN the photography world, it is said the photo is not made by the camera, it is a photographer to makes a photo. Likewise, a program does not make the graphic, it is the skills of the designer that produces the graphics.

I'm sure GIMP is a great tool. However, one thing to consider is your potential employer surely will ask "Can you use Photoshop or Illustrator?" instead of asking GIMP. Why? Maybe because they don't know better. Open source could save more people a lot of trouble if it were just more famous.

You have a point. In order to use Photoshop, you need to spend a lot of money on the program, which might be impossible for some people. However, GIMP is free and it can be used to create graphics and image editing. The most important thing is your end product, it does not matter what you used tom create the product, what actually matters is the end result. But then having Photoshop skills on your resume counts better than having GIMP skills.

I have used Photoshop and loved its services. Am yet to use GIMP and find out how it works. I think I cannot say which is which before I do. I will do the testing of the two.

I have GIMP and I find it good Photo editor. But if you need a more complex tool then you need to get the Photoshop. Photoshop has better features and tools. However, GIMP is great for a beginner.

I haven't tried GIMP yet. But with the various features that photoshop can do, I think it is best for me, as of the moment, to stay with Photoshop. I was once told by my schoolmate before, with Photoshop, imagination is the limit.

I using PS professionally wherein you do not need to change working documents with others. I'm haven't use the GIMP for my work, however I've briefly performed with it and I can't consider using it to what I need to do. I change files from side to side with Illustrator loads and needs that capability.

I don't have any knowledge or experience with using GIMP, I have used only Photoshop for all my pictures work and it's served me extremely well and it's actually one of the reasons why I have tried looking for any other alternative to use and carry out my work.

If you started with photoshop, you don't have to use GIMP, in fact you will not like GIMP. It has a floating interface which looks ugly. I started with Photoshop, I have checked GIMP, even used the program to do minor editing, however, I did not feel like using GIMP. However, if you want to learn graphic designing and do not want to invest a money on a program, try GIMP.

This information is helpful, because I was a bit curious about GIMP. Perhaps, I should not try it as I don't want to be disappointed.

GIMP is often touted as free photoshop. If you want photoshop, you need to pay at least $700, however, if you want to do graphic designing and do not have photoshop, you have a free program called GIMP. Since you pay no money, you will never be disappointed with GMIP. The output is as good as Photoshop.

I personally prefer photoshop over anything else. Adobe photoshop simply offers a wide range of tools and it is easy to learn. And besides all professional graphic artist uses photoshop so why settle for anything else.

As someone who have used both in the past, I can say that Photoshop is far more convenient and premium compared to GIMP because of the outputs you can make using the two of them. As for user-interface, GIMP is much more user friendly because it's easier to use compared to Photoshop especially if you're not very literate with computers.

I have not heard of GIMP until this moment when I saw it on this platform. I am more familiar with photoshop and have done a lot of editing work on pictures using the software. I am more open to try out new ideas and if I come across it I would be more than happy to test it out.

GIMP is also less graphic reliant than Photoshop. So this means you can install GIMP in a relatively entry level spec computer vs Photoshop where it starts to lag when you install it there. I install GIMP when I"m working on a new computer that doesn't have Photoshop. The installing and cracking process takes some time.

I am more comfortable using Photoshop. I learned how to use this when I was in school. I used to use it a lot when editing picture now I am just using what is available on my smartphone. I have heard of Gimp but never really use it.

We are in the same bandwagon. I only have some experience using Photoshop. Although I have ever heard of GIMP, I have never used it,but maybe in future.

Okay, so I confess I've never used Photoshop. I do, however, use GIMP quite frequently. Once you get over the learning curve, I feel that you can really do high-quality designs just using GIMP and online tutorials.

I'd also like to recommend Inkscape as another free graphic design program. I use this in fact more frequently than GIMP. It's analogous to Illustrator, so it's great for vector designs, but it can also handle raster images quite well also. I use it for thumbnails and the lion's share of my digital work is done using just Inkscape.

@mpros1 I have never heard of inkscape, however, I know another free photo editing program that sounds like inkscape. It is called photoscape, you can download and install for free and use it to edit photos. The program is not very complicated to use.

I'd use GIMP for playing around with MEME's, and hobby images. But for serious, paid work? Only photoshop will do.

Well, GIMP is actually pretty easy to use and understand. But as expected there are a lot of features that are missing so I would say that Photoshop is far more advanced. But since it is an open software, it is very promising if 3rd party developers could a lot more time into it.

I use GIMP as an alternative to Photoshop because it's free and I can't afford Photoshop. I used Photoshop at school, it's what we used so I've gotten used to it and when I started using GIMP, I hated it. Although they're similar, I still find Photoshop more easier to use and I don't know if it's just me but the quality of my GIMP projects look "low quality". I'm not sure if I'm doing things wrong but I prefer Photoshop. I still use GIMP but not that much anymore because I don't do in-depth editing anymore. I would use Photoshop again and dump GIMP but I cannot afford it and I don't want to acquire it for free (illegally) because I respect the developers.
