Drawing Caricatures for fast money

Drawing Caricatures or funny and exaggerated representations of someone could earn an artist some quick money.

Caricature artists can be seen in big events and malls here offering to do caricature drawings and it's a very good marketing strategy because it's a good remembrance for a certain event or with a loved one or friends.

Caricatures are fast to make and a good conversation piece and the price is also reasonable.

I can do caricatures but it isn't that easy as it may seem. It takes time and a whole lot of talent to do so. I can do caricatures of people but I need time to make it according to the liking of the client. That is why I only do personalized caricatures that is ordered ahead of time.

That's true. Caricatures may seem easy for those who just watch but in reality it isn't. That's actually the reason why I have high respect for people who does caricatures. During my high school years, I was part of my school's official school paper and we had a member who is an Editorial Cartoonist. What she does is to draw caricatures in order to illustrate and summarize the whole editorial article. She's really good that I always feel goosebumps whenever she draws caricatures.

You have a great point. One may be able to do caricatures, but not everyone can satisfy the standards of clients. One needs to be flexible and patient though.

Artists who can draw well in general stand to make a pretty penny depending on the work they do. I think if you're good at drawing celebrities or famous people, you might be better off creating your own humor channel or platform to draw interest and advertising as opposed to taking freelance jobs. There's work for artists, but once you establish yourself as one who just draws media personalities, the market shrinks a bit.

I agree. Artists shouldn't limit themselves to other opportunities. People recognize their talent and ask for more of their work. That in itself speaks volumes.

Starting your own platform to share your art and humor really isn't a bad idea. I browse Reddit a lot, and I constantly see people sharing cartoons of politicians, celebrities, and whatever is a hot topic of discussion at the time. In theory, one could share their political cartoons on there, gather somewhat of a following through proper viral marketing, and then redirect their audience to their website. They could probably make a pretty penny that way through AdSense and merchandising, perhaps even commissioned work.

THis job, drawing caricatures, is not for me because I am not an illustrator. I have interest in drawing, however, I do not have any skills. I believe there is a lot of money to be made with this skill. You can not only work as an illustrator but also a cartoonist. You can illustrate children books, coloring books etc. I see a high demand for this job on various freelancer sites.

Illustrators make good money. The thing is, you have to craft a certain style for your work. For example, a comic book illustrator - couldn't work on a kids book...And vice versa. Once you nail down a certain style, from there, it's all about marketing your previous work to land new gigs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Everyone has his/her own style. Some painters are expressionist, some are cubist. Some illustrators draw cartoons for kids some draw comics for adults. Some write exclusively for children, some for teens, some for women. Whether you are an artist, musicians, writers, you will always have your own style and specific audience. A rock artist will never appeal to the pop audience and hip-hop will not appeal to county lovers.

Caricatures does make a good and affordable gift, it's also a great way to express graphically the person's character or personality by making comical or exaggerated representations. It's something that is memorable and fun to look at.

Some are used to expose the ills going on in the society, and I personally like such artist works because it makes things that are being trying to conceal from the public eyes something that is of a public knowledge, thereby making a mockery of the situation.

Take a look at this Caricatures graphic arts and laugh and enjoy yourself. Drawing Caricatures for fast money

The graphic says a lot of the behavior of women. In order to create a graphic like this, you need to be a great conceptualizer. You need to think in terms of the picture as well as expression. A good caricature artist is a great storyteller, he tells a story in pictures. Telling stories in pictures is a great skill.
I like political caricatures. I enjoy reading strip cartoons in daily newspapers.

I really love and enjoy the political caricatures. The artists using funny and humorous characters just to say something against the government. They make it looks funny and at the same time ability to insult the politicians or to say something about the government. Most of the time i enjoy this in one of the local news paper in our country.

Yeah, most caricatures rely on a good knowledge of current events as they are great tools for inciting political or social discussion among the public, like in this graphic regarding women in university.

Caricatures represent the funny side of popular figures and celebrities. Therefore, most of the caricatures are about politicians, actors, and other celebrities. There are various kinds of carricutures. The common form is illustration. Other forms of carricutures are performance based caricatures as done by stand up comedians and performers.

In my country as of late, Caricatures arts are trending well right now because there are lots of crazy events that's going on and requires to be criticized both with drawing and even wordings. The latest event going on now is the case of our President calling all Nigerian youths lazy and illiterate. Lots of caricature drawings are being made with respect to that and it's pulling lots of traffic.

Caricatures certainly have their own niche and people generally enjoy their art form since it's more direct to the point and its purpose is clear, unlike other art forms where the interpretation is open and some do not appreciate them because they can't understand the meaning behind the art. Caricatures, in general, is understood universally and each artist has developed their own style for the art form.

I've seen a lot of Caricatures stalls in the malls and they seem to have a good business. People always got curious when they see Caricatures pictures on the wall and they're going to laugh at it first then they will eventually ask for the price because they find it interesting, unique and cute. Sometimes they will bring their whole family just to have Caricatures drawing. Imagine how you could make in a day if they bring their whole gang just using your talent.

It is very common here in Philippines in side streets, markets and malls that their are some artist who are willing to draw your whole body or face in actual. You can choose if you wan't Caricatures or Classic paintings, all you have to do is sit down in a position you desire and wait for just a moment and sometimes it takes 40 to 45 minutes and its done. You can have your own Caricature or Portrait. Their business is doing well and I think they earn a lot because they always have customers everyday. Some are orders with a due date others are walk ins and its a passion that really earns a lot of money.

You're right, and actually much better to find the artist in the street compare to the artist inside the mall. Caricature artist in the street is less expensive but still doing quality caricature and I think much more better. In the session road in Baguio, a lot of great caricature artist, and it's really fun to see them doing their job.

I've never been to Baguio City but I also heard about it, there are also caricature artist in Boracay Islands but I heard that it was temporarily closed because of some reasons in environment and maybe will open again soon. But the price of artworks there is more expensive because it is our tourist spots and artist also renting space so they mark up the price. They have a good business there and they earn much I think.

You're right. Artists in boracay really taking advantages of that situation. because they know a lot of foreigners on that islands, so the price of their caricatures are twice or more than that to the normal price in the streets.

I think that portraiture of any kind can earn you some decent money. I used to live in New York City, where it was fairly common to see people on subway platforms who would provide random types of entertainment for some money. Most of the time people would just sit there playing some sort of instrument, but occasionally you had artists doing portraits of people.

I used to feel sorry for them, thinking, "Those poor people, having to sit here in this dirty subway, drawing people for some pocket change." When I found out how much they make, I no longer felt sorry. I talked to one guy who drew 5 minute portraits for a living, and he not only made enough money to live well, but after a year had enough money saved to buy a vacation home in upstate New York. It's definitely a skill worth investing in, it would seem.

I like that caricatures exaggerates the truth in order to make it obvious. The reality of situations often tend to be ignored unless fully acknowledged. These situations shouldn't be left unattended. This type of art encourages us to be aware and take action.

Humor also helps with conveying their message. A lot of times people don't take serious things seriously. It's funny when you think about it. And yet if you give them an opportunity to laugh about what you're saying, they're more likely to consider your ideas.

And somehow, caricature artist is safe for some libel case from politicians. Because it's just a humor, and it's really hard to take it seriously, compare to some article against the politicians. The catholic church or priests are not also safe from this.

My younger brother used to draw some caricatures and other funny sketches. It is his hobby and he said it is also for practicing his skill and talent for drawing. But he didn't make this hobby if him to earn some money. I don't know if he already know that he can earn money using his talent or not, but I'd like to suggest to him that to do it. I can say that if he can apply it to the industry already, he can eventually nurture his skill. I'm just afraid now that he might lose his passion because of our family conflict. Caricatures originated in Italy and it is recognized that italian artists, the Carracis, after whom the word caricature is named, and other artists use to challenge each other in depicting what is considered as beautiful art with just a few pen strokes.

These are the different types of Caricatures:

Satirical Caricature - in which political characters are exaggerated, showing their weakest or strongest points.

Grotesque Caricature - it makes fun of art, twisting images to create humor.

Modern Caricature - which started in the 1940's, it was tasteful and artistic, oftentimes a little humor is involved. Most modern Caricature artists today draw impromptu caricature art on the streets, events or gatherings.

One of the things I really want to do is illustrating and I think illustrations really helps in any field from books to articles, movies to series and infographics to advertisement and etc.. This serves as an attraction to readers. I used to draw portraits to caricature and I must say that it was kind of difficult before you can see the result of your drawing. It's hard to create a distorted face knowing that your reference is kind of different from the one you are copying. So it is really up to you on how will you create such distorted face that still looks like the model you're copying.

Yes, probably it is. It also seems like getting an easy money because those talented people are enjoying what they are doing and at the same time they can earn money from their habit. I agree with you. Creating one might take a long time but the stress and tiredness brought by it won't be minded by the artist. His attention is not focused on how hard his masterpiece is, but he thinks of it as if it were a game. This is based on my experience though.
How I wish I can be great caricature artist as well. So that I can offer my talent, earn money from it, build up a business and create stalls in malls.

That's very true. As long as the artist loves what is he doing then no such words stress and tiredness for him though it also inevitable not to feel at all times, but despite that they would still feel happy and contented for it. I also wish for my younger brother to become successful in sketching, drawing or whatever they call it because I can really see how dedicated he is in creating his drawings and caricatures which he made it as one of his habit. It will also serve as a gift to a special someone or love ones. I think it's a good thing to start if you have skills and talent when it comes to creating caricatures.
