Do photographers still make enough money with the series of smart phones we have now?

I'm making this thread because of what happened yesterday when I went for a birthday party. This female friend of mine was celebrating and I was surprised that no photographer was invited.

What they did was make use of their mobile devices in taking pictures and that got me thinking if most photographers still make enough money.

It makes me think too. I guess they didn't make much as they did before. People nowadays make just make use of their mobile phones and their cameras to capture moments. In my country, some still hire photographers and videographers during celebration if special events like birthdays and weddings. But for those with low budget, they just took photos on their own.

I hope that's a new era where they from valued once more as before. People now look a way to take pictures with there phones and can even go to the stadio where the get the pictures being hard copies.

In my corner of the world they have upped the game. They quickly take photos in funerals and celebrations. They do not ask you first. They then print them on cheap paper and sell them cheaply. Since people do not like their faces sprayed everywhere they buy them.

I can relate to this trick of paparazzi. I remember there is a time I confronted one of them for capturing every motion I was making.

I agree, i think the effects is greater specially those photographers that still use conventional methods and equipment's.

You made a good point from this as I still wonder the reason some photographers that are in business won't upgrade the method they use in doing business. That is one way to make clients lose interest which is not that good.

True, more and more people do prefer the cost effective way of taking photos. I really do think that smartphones does has cool apps that can compete with professionally taken photos. The thing is, professionally taken photos really has good quality when it comes to resolution.

I think things has greatly changed since the coming of smartphone. It has changed the world of photography. Before photographers are always present in whatever special occasions. They are present in birthday parties. They are also present in graduations.

Since the coming of smartphone photography life has become easier. You have the choice not to invite photographers. Its because anybody can just take pictures. Anybody can be a photographer. There is no more need to call a photographer. Its easy and not costly.

In my opinion only the rich and famous would hire the very best photographers nowadays. Moneyed people in times of important celebrations would hire photographers also people who wants or needs a good photo of their special day like for example graduations and awarding ceremonies.

Here in our city photography is still alive. There are still many people who prefer the works of the photographers. During graduation of my daughter from high school we bought pictures from a photographer.

I agree with you, I even sympathetize to those photographers who have to close their shops because they don't have enough costumers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

My guess is that they're not making the same amount as 5 years ago. Since smartphone cameras have become better, mid to high end phones can now compete in quality with digital cameras.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I think photographers are heavily affected by the advancement of smartphone and digital cameras. There's also the proliferation of editing and photography apps in which you could easily take photos and edit it to whatever size and design you like. And the best thing about it is that whatever photos you take and edit would be saved to your device or to any relative storage device or in the internet itself.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah your right about this. The evolution of technology nowadays is very fast and some traditional equipment's are coming to fade specially those brands that lacks research and development.

That is what the most sad about this life today. If you got to buy a new and latest phone it will got changed fast by its new design. So you will going to plan to buy again new phone.

I think that it really took a big toll on photographers. Technology is really fast phased and really competes with professional work. On of the thing that I can say on how professional photographers and photo manipulators is that they really know how to approach their way on taking and manipulating photos that has good results.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You are absolutely correct with that assertion on how seriously photographers are badly affected with the dawn of smartphone high megapixel camera quality. What these photographers now rely on is to digitally print the pictures snapped with smartphone in their studio.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes they are, I know a lot of photo studio(?) owner, that has closed because they don't have enough clients to stay at the business.

It's quite significant in my opinion. Before selfie and high resolution mobile camera, we always go to Photo shops just to have a decent family picture. Nowadays with the technology available you can basically take a picture everywhere.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Exactly my point. Years ago I can still remember going to the photo studio with my siblings to take pictures and ever passport photographs for school purposes but with the dawn of advanced technology in phones with high end quality cameras, I can't remember the last time I went to the photo studio.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Definitely. Through smartphones, we can easily do a lot of things including high quality pictures. Nowadays, we seldom go for a family picture by a professional photographers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have seen smartphone that comes with more than 24 megapixel camera and such smartphone picture quality is as close as the ones snapped with a digital camera. Such photos are exactly what photographers will snap and wash for you in the studio. This is actually why most people now prefer using their phones to snap pictures instead of looking for the services of photographers.

In the U.S., there are still jobs for photographers if you're willing to put in the effort to find them. My dad did professional photography during the film days, and he made quite a bit of money. However, when things went digital and cameras became more affordable, he noticed that it was harder to find clients because more people were getting into photography.

At the end of the day, though, just because you have a decent camera doesn't mean you'll take decent photos. Your photographic eye plays a huge role in how your photos turn out, and editing styles can be a determining factor as well.

I agree. Having a decent camera doesn't mean you will take good shots. I saw someone on facebook starting his photography business. Yes he has a great camera and he is from a wealthy family as well. He was able to take several models abroad, yet I can say his shots doesn't look like the one's from a professional photographer. I also has a friend who just started being a photographer, he doesn't have a decent camera, yet his shots are the best!

You know what they say, an amateur with even the most expensive equipment isn’t going to be able to do what a master can with even the cheapest.

I’ve never had the best camera, and I still don’t (it’s a mid-range Canon DSLR) but the fact is that I was blessed with a decent eye for photography, and the fact that I took a course for it in college certainly helps as well. Because of this combination, I often get a lot of complements on my photography even though I’m not working with the greatest equipment.

Truth is that I’ve worked with really expensive cameras before, but my photos didn’t turn out any better than with my own camera, simply because at that point my own skill was the limiting factor.

That is good to know Do photographers still make enough money with the series of smart phones we have now? Keep it up. You are a skilled, gifted, blessed photographer.
People like you are blessed to have such a skill.
There are many aspiring photographers actually who aren't that lucky and blessed to have the skill in taking a nice shot. But I still wonder if this kind of skill can be learn? I mean, not all aspiring photographers has the same good skill as anyone else like you. I am just wondering if unfortunate aspiring photographers can master the skill as well?
Or do you think they are inborn masters in photography?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

“...he noticed that it was harder to find clients because more people were getting into photography.”

I’ve actually seen this happen first hand. I had dated a girl while I was in college, and at the time I was taking a course in photography so I had a decent, mid-range DSLR. Well, long story short, her brother was getting married and they needed a photographer. They knew I was taking the course and had a decent camera, so they offered me the job.

I was an amateur at the time (not that I'm not one now, too) with barely any knowledge of photography, but because I had the camera, they figured "good enough." I’m sure there are more instances like this that happen all the time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's the advantage of a professional photographer...skills is not a thing that you can buy. Its basically the most priced possession of a professional photographer. Unfortunately advance technology by phone manufacturers are creating A.I. apps that automatically enhances your shots, Now it doesn't matter if your a newbie in photography just use the app and take the shot and all is automatically rendered.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree even if you have the right tool or advanced tool. Nothing can really beat the shots taken by a professional. There can only be attempts but I think the outputs will really show a novice versus a professional in terms of the skills and eye on photography.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

yes, it is absolutely true. But, people sometimes think the other way.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well for one thing, I don’t really think it’s all that common to hire a professional photographer for something like a birthday party. I’ve been to plenty of birthday parties over the course of my 26 years on this Earth, and I’ve only ever been to one that had a professional photographer.

Photographers are usually hired for more significant events such as weddings and such, where it is incredibly important to have high quality photos captured to keep memories of the event. I’ve never been to a wedding or reception where there wasn’t at least one professional photographer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That is true to some extent, but I am pretty sure that back in the days when smart phones are not used this much, people that celebrated birthdays always have the need to take pictures and there is no other way that they can make that happen instead of getting a photographer hired for the job.

A friend of mine actually had a bad experience recently where they had a family friend (not a professional) take photos for their wedding and the pictures didn't turn out well at all! Poor lighting, bad composition, and an overall disappointing way to have documented their special day.

I think now they're probably wishing they shelled out for a pro.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's what I was saying as we can get to see that being a professional is a better than just trying to adopt someone that can't really give you a good photo. I have also noticed that professional photographers are always trying to upgrade on a daily basis which is quite okay as well.

Yesterday I saw one Tecno smartphone called Camon CX. The phone comes with a 24 megapixel front selfie camera. You can imagine the high quality of pictures that such phone can take. It would be as bright and clear as snow.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
That's how good we have gone with phone cameras unlike in the past when we always have a kind of no contest between pictures taken on mobile and that taken by photographers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is a very interesting question on whether orthodox photographers still make money with the rate of higher quality camera megapixel that comes with most smartphone recently. Seriously, I think it's going to have a huge effect on their business because these smartphone can snap these pictures very well and they would be digitally printed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is one aspect of machines taking over the jobs meant for humans. It is not going to be easy for any photographer to make huge returns as they used to do since people can now save cost by making use of their phones to snap pictures.

I think photographers who have small neighborhood shops are being affected by smartphone cameras. In the past I could see a lot of people in their shops waiting in line for their photos to be taken while others are claiming their developed photos. Nowadays it's always empty with one or two clients who's getting old photos restored.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Unless there is something like going to those shops to print your photos which was taken with a smartphone, I doubt that most people have need to visit the photographers' shops that often again.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
Agree with you. Nowadays it is not preferably to visit a photographer's shop over and over again because even the simple person can make their own photo with out the help of a photographer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sad but true. Because of the advancement of technology small photo shops are heavily affected and some have even close in my area. Before, I go to them to have my photo taken but now I take my own picture with my android. This is happening all around. I think that with more advancement of the smartphone , they will go out of business. Personally, I still think that digital cameras are still the best in taking pictures and videos but as I want to save money I would go for my smartphone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Nowadays very few people hire photographers and videographers for their events unless if it's for a classy wedding. This is because of the proliferation of smartphones with good cameras which can also shoot good HD videos.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

There are smartphones that can take pictures that are of very high quality. During the period that I went for my academic duties here and was asked for a passport, I had to make use of my mobile device and I had to admit that the picture taken was of higher quality that the passports I saw people using.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly @Kakashi2020. It's only prominent men events and occasions that normally gets the services of a professional photographers and videographers to cover the events. Under normal circumstances, a high quality smartphone can do the job very well and can be printed in a digital studio.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah that's the sad reality, photographers just need to innovate and be more creative. Technology is unpredictable and we all need to adjust in all aspect of life just to make sure that we are not left behind.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do think photographers are really suffering nowadays because of new mainstream technology most of their not so difficult services have now become sort of obsolete. A normal person with a descent camphone can easily take photos and edit it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
This is what technology has brought upon us. Just the other day, I was watching the TV where things about artificial intelligence were being discussed and I was worried as soon, manpower won't be needed that much to keep things going.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think these days a lot of people have high quality cameras, whether that be their own DSLR or even smartphones. It's also incredibly easy to download editing software and teach yourself how to use it via DIY tutorials online. I think because of that, photography is more accessible to the average person. I don't know that I'd find it necessary to hire a professional photographer either, because photos that I can take are as high quality!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

There are still photographers that is still in demand nowadays like people who are in journalism. But like i said they need to innovate their skills if not their equipment's just to make sure that there's always a room for high skilled photographers.

I have some friends who still earnings for being photographer, and yeah you're right, somehow they are affected by this smart phone technology, that's why their doing a lot of things just to make their shots become much more professional. There're still a lot of freelance model need their service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Yeah, they are making their work to become more professional. It is a good sign that the work is really going fine as we get to see the need to have those photos looking unique. There are still lots of works that photographers can offer, but it is kind of limited at the moment.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
It really depends on their specialization. Professional photographers are still earning good because of their skill and expertise. In my opinion amateur photographers are the ones who are greatly affected by new technology, since the emergence of good camphones more and more people have become interested in photography as a hobby. This resulted to heavy competition in the amateur and sub pro category.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
That's the thing as many people are now interested in getting to make use of their own mobile phones to take pictures. I have come to notice that it is one of the ways that you can get to take quality pictures as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Chinet23
I totally agree. I was about to say that the advent of camphones gave amateur photographers a run for their money. Capturing moments and taking pictures are now made a lot easier. You can take as many shots as you want. But when it comes to major events, professional photographers are the only ones who can get the job done and come up with your desired result.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is true as many great photographers are now trying to upgrade the type of pictures that they take on events such as wedding ceremonies and other events that many people attend on a daily basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I do think so, it is because people do seek professional results from time to time. Hiring professional photographers really makes the clients have good photos without making too much fuss. On the other hand. smartphones are really a big competitor on photographers, because of the features that can compete with the results of a professionally taken photo.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The good thing about making use of smart phones when taking pictures is that when you are really good with it, the pictures taken would also look really nice as the ones taken by professional photographers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, professional photographers still have their ranks in the business because of techniques and skills. On the other hand smartphones have digital enhancers to boost their shots. I think this is a factor why competition is high on photography, its the skills vs the technology.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I don't think that photographers nowadays are making as much money as before like about 10-20 years ago because of all the new innovations in photography and film as well as in gadgets nowadays. It's quite simple to take photos and videos nowadays all you need is a smartphone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The expected income must have drastically reduced as we have come to see that people now take fun pictures with their mobile devices unlike what we see when there is no smartphone that every picture you want to take must be taken by a qualified photographer back then.

I think, photographers are not making as much money as before due to the new technology we have. New technology makes us more independent and resourceful when it comes to making ourselves look beautiful in photos without the help of professional photographers. It is indeed a more beneficial way for us to save up however it has a lot of negative effects to the photographers as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That was the point that I was trying to make in the sense that a whole lot of people are now living in that situation where they save more and try to find a way to relax the mind as well with the good pictures that they take on a daily basis.

The professional aspect of the work done matters a lot as well. One may choose to have their photos taken by a smartphone for a simple and casual occasion but when its something serious they always look for the masters of photography.
The number of clients and jobs has however lowered. Professional services have in that manner gotten more expensive which means that they may still be generating sufficient income.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

To an extent, I think that you are making a valid point as most people will always want to be serious when it is something that has to done with official photos. This is one reason that they always get the attention of professional photographers when it is on matters such as that.

As someone who does photography very regularly, I don't think smart phones are the problem at all. They're getting better, yes, but I don't think they're at a point that they can replace the quality of a good DSLR camera. I think the main problem photographers are facing today is how affordable cameras are becoming. Entry level cameras are becoming incredibly affordable, which makes it easy for more people to start taking photos and calling themselves "photographers".

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Thanks for making a valid point. I have been wondering the reason such is the situation of things that we have, and this answered everything. Many people that are not experienced are claiming to be photographers and this has made it worse for the quality and price of photos in the market.

That's nice points that you have made. The thing is that to have a mobile device that can take pictures doesn't necessarily mean that you can take good ones and this is where the photographers come in to give those photos that professional touch.

I think photographers are earning more these days than they used to in the past. That's because people are hiring photographers for special events. You can of course use a smartphone for your every day events, however, for special occasions you need to hire an expert. For instance, it is very common to see a photographer in the evnts like wedding, anniversary, birthday etc. Professional photographers are also needed for professional photos.

In my opinion, photographers are greatly affected by the availability of cameras with great quality through smartphones. I have also seen and attended several celebrations wherein no photographers are invited and celebrants would just rely on relatives or even themselves to take pictures on their smartphones. Quality and effects available in phone camera makes it possible for ordinary people to take artistic pictures, close to those taken by professionals. Crossing out a photographer in a celebration could save them money.

Smartphones are still not at the level where they can totally replace the more high-end cameras, plus it takes the skill of a good photographer to take a really good picture with the use of those cameras, so someone with the skills can totally still make a living and be successful in doing so through photography.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think photographers can still make enough money. Not all the people have the latest phone with great cameras. And not everyone wants to do the photography on his own. For some events like birthday parties, debut, photoshoot, and weddings, photographers are in demand. For these kinds of events, people are more likely to hire a photographer since they are expert. You can buy all the smartphones in the world but photographers have the profound skills that you cannot easily learn.

What I feel is that there is more for photographers to do at the moment, if they are looking at making money via the work that they offer. It has not been that easy for them to make this happen since it is difficult for those that have even being in the industry to keep up with the change of things in technology as well.

Here in the Philippines, photogtaphers are a big part of a celebration. Whether it is a birthday party, debut, pre-nups, weddings, baptismals and more. Although many Filipinos are updated to the latest smart phones, there are many who hires photographers as they can capture more photos better and also have better and professional editing skills. And generally, I believe that these professionals earn enough money to make a living. For me, it is one of the most adventurous jobs here in the Philippines.

It is all about being brave when we talk of photographers still making a decent income as they used to make in the past. I am also sadden by this reality. I once went to a famous park in which over thousand people is coming to visit every single day, and there are few photographers around, selling their services. I could still remember how they are valued back when I was still a child. In order for you to have a chance to have nice photo with the monument, you will have to pay for a photographer. But with that last visit I had, there are only 2 or 3 photographers left and only a few people bought their service. From hundreds of photographers before, now it is down to 3 photographers. Although phones are still developing on giving us a better photo, we still have people out there that are skilled and could give us more than a photo, they could also give us memories. If I will conduct a party, I will still hire a photographer because I think that is also a way to help them financially. Its a win win situation since they give us good quality photos and we could pay them for their services also we don't have to worry about taking photos, because they will be the one who will take a shot of it.

I'm glad that someone was able to see I'm reality what I was trying to say. I'm not a photographer myself but I could imagine their situation. People now only get photographers to shoot say life events like graduation and weddings and that definitely takes a toll on their livelihood. Even just working online and posting pictures to sell their license, the competition is fierce. Smartphones are getting better and better and this leads to the decreased demand on photographers. I wouldn't hire a photographer if I could just shoot it on my phone unless it's a very important event in my life.

Yeah, it is about the demand for normal pictures going down while the need for those that just need official shots such as weddings and the rest being the only option left for the photographers to make use of. They are still in demand because their customer are always there when it comes to weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, special occasion, they're always part of it. There are some other aspects of photography that cannot be covered by using a cellphone camera. Although celphone camera can be very advanced in terms of its technology, photography skills such as right timing in taking pictures, right framing, lighting and application of digital photo enhancers can only be provided by a professional digital photographer and yes I think photographers could still earn but depending on the level of their over all skills.

Even though phone camera's features are FAST evolving and improving, I can say that there still f
some features that phone camera can capture the same or as well as photography camera. Phone is more on the multi tsaking so it focuses on more apps than it could handle. Unlike photography camera, it has a specific use that it why it uses its capability more on photography alone.

Yeah, I think that you have got a solid point on what a phone camera can do unlike the situation that we are having with a mobile phone which can be used for other activities as well. The focus of cameras on taking pictures make it a better device to use as well.

I'm sure they do. What photographers do worry about these days is competition. Nowadays, there are a lot of them. Photography classes are less expensive and take less time as what they are used to so it's easier for an aspiring photographer to be one.

One thing that I have noticed is that you are going to become a very good photographer as long as you take the lessons now. People are still making money by being part of some big events such as weddings and all that and this is one way to make money on a weekend basis.

I have only ever been to a proper studio once in my life. Turned out they thought they were doing a portfolio for my daughter to become a model and the deal was they made me up and did shots of me too. While the phones we have are pretty good for most things, it is clear when I look at the professionally done photos that there is a superior quality. The cameraman knew things we do not about lighting and presentation and so on, Recently, my sister has been sending me pictures of her art which she has taken with a camera. She has some expensive model. Again, while my phone seems fine, if I put pictures alongside hers are definitely superior. For that reason alone, I might hire someone for a wedding or very special occasion. There is a different so ie and that is, why, I think, professional photography is still needed. That said, I would think the use of mobile phone cameras as an alternative has pushed the price up.

The photo shoot was years ago and we were promised free photos. We got them, but I somehow walked out of that studio £300 poorer. Out of interest I just looked up the price of professional photography. At nearly 1000 a day for a wedding and I bet that is over 100 for a kids party.

I think most of the Photographers who are not able to change with time , will definitely find it difficult due to the lack of work. The new generation mobiles with high definition cameras are very easy to use and can produce decent pictures. They definitely have made an adverse effect on the business of photography

But I guess people still would always go for the services of a professional photographers to cover big occasions like weddings and engagements. For smaller celebrations like birthdays mobiles are used widely .If however the photographers adopt new means of marketing themselves they would definitely be able increase there business

That is true as those has changed and those that are into the photography industry should device new ways that they can get new clients to pay for their services as well. This is the best way that they are going to make things work out for them.

Yes I think since the quality of the DSLR is I think has better quality than those phones. We all know that phones are upgrading but DSLR cameras are also upgrading much higher quality so I think most people will still prefer the use of DSLR especially special occasions such as weddings, debut or even shooting a film. Although phones can be enough but I think phone cameras can be use mostly for traveling and taking pictures when its more convenient.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
This is a big difference. The thing is that most of the phone cameras may not take quality pictures such as the ones that photographers use, but the reality is that most phone users will prefer to take pictures with their phones unless it is in a situation where they are doing a bigger event such as wedding.

I believe Photographers still earn a living but definitely not the same as before. Nowadays, most Photographers follow the trend and give digital copies as well to their clients. Mostly they work on Pre-nup pictorials and some even opened studios for graduation packages which I believe is a reliable source of income if not the best.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The graduation packages that they give to students that is passing out of a school is a cool way that they always try to make more money. It is all about being creative with the way that they perform their duties as well.

Yes, nowadays, photographers have to take steps higher with their packages for special events. Even though they are not as in demand as before, their skills are still needed in special occasions.

We can surely use our smart phones in taking pictures specially in big events like birthday, baptism and wedding. But it is more different when you hire a professional photographer, they have the skills & techniques in capturing moments.

I believe that it is all about choice and not basically on how we can make it happen or not. I have seen people that made use of their mobile phones to cover big events and still went ahead to reprint it because they have the option to do so as well.

Oh, there's definitely still a need for professional photographers.

Granted, the barrier to entry for taking high-quality photos has dropped significantly, but you're not paying them just for the equipment (theirs is still probably superior to a phone camera), but you're paying them for a range of things, such as: their expertise (knowing where to stand, lighting, sun, shadow, etc.), full digital rights over the photos, and the peace of mind knowing that you won't have to ask all of your friends to send you the photos that they took, which may not be as good quality as you would have liked!

Their skills is always going to reflect in the photos that they take. Most people that have birthdays right here in our country always go to studios to take some shoots since they are going to look nice and cute on such photos.

Of course, there are still a huge number of people who prefer their photos to be taken by professional photographers, specially for occassions. Also, to add the fact that not everyone are inclined to photography and so they are still hiring photographers to take a well-shot and perfect-timed image. Even the highest quality of phone's camera is nothing compared to a photograph with a DSLR geared with accessories.

I kind of agree with you that there is going to be a big difference between the pictures taken by smart phones and the one that photographers take with their cameras. The question is does it really matter when all we desire is to put them on social media and nothing more?

Photographers have suffered great loss because of smartphones. We seldomly see the need to go to a professional photographer for our personal photos, we choose instead to do that with our smartphones. But all is not lost, their is still need for professional photographs taken by professional photographers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
The thing is that when it comes to taking selfies, it is mostly done by smartphone as you can take as much as you want till you get the perfect touch. This can't be said when we are looking for a coverage for a wedding as a professional photographer is going to be needed to perform that kind of task.

I do think so, because a lot of photo studio that I know when I was young are already closed because they don't have enough clients to stay in business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
That is true. There is this photographer that I used to know in my area back then that has closed down all because the work ain't coming again as before. I think that it is down to the way that the technology has changed the world. I hope that things will get better in the near future anyways.

I have also seen a lot of photography businesses in our place closing because of the decreasing demands from clients. It's just sad that umthey have to close down, but, we can't do anything about it as we are almost relying everything to smarthphones.

A friend of mine started taking his hobby seriously 14 years ago, it was gruelling. He did not have a lot of clients and never had regular ones until after three years. The business runs now through word of mouth, clients passsing his name to friends and relatives, via referral. It's still a good business, but not one that was in demand pre-smart phone era.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The business is still one that can ensure that you make some earnings, but it is never that popular anymore than when there was no smart phones to help us take shots back in those days.

I personally think that those traditional photographers are really not having as much customers as they had before. However, a lot of new generation photography businesses have been blooming nowadays. Because people want to hire photographers for their wedding, debut and etc. These businesses don't only cater photographies, but also video-making and editing. What I mean by this is, businesses nowadays are being innovative and stepping up their games. Those traditional photographers who only wait for people to tell them to take pictures in some places like church and schools are sadly not the making as much money as before.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Traditional photographers are actually not finding the trend funny and the big challenge is that some of them may be finding it pretty difficult to change as well. Let's see how things will evolve in the near future.

Photographers are still making money, but the job is not much as it used to be. Also, most photographers have upgraded to offering other photography services. The truth of the matter is that smartphones have affected photographers so much.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. It is just sad that the old photographers that we once knew who took graduation photos and such are not making as much money as before. I also pity them for not being able to upgrade their business that can go against modern photography businesses nowadays.

This is what I am trying to let most of us understand. Times in the past, there used to be hard copies of photos that we took at the photography places, but now, there are more of soft copies of those pictures now since it is different from what we used to have in the past.

Yes photographers can still make a money but not like before. Photographers are really affected in the evolution camera phone but remeber that not who have a smartphone know how to get great photos like photographers specially during a important occcasion or event, they really need a help of professional photographer to take a memorable part.

Easily! I have a friend who is a professional landscape photographer (he's also making photos of weddings and events), and he says that he has no problem to use modern smartphone for his work. Moreover, he says he sometimes doesn't bother to bring his professional camera. He's kinda afraid that he might lose his job, because of the modern technology almost anyone can learn to be a professional photographer without the need to get expensive equipment.
