How much are you willing to spend on graphics?

I think this is a interesting subject and may help people with pricing their graphic work. For me I would never pay anymore than $30~$40 for any graphic work. And for me to pay $40 it would have to be some huge header graphic. How about you? How much are you willing to spend on graphics?

I like making my own graphics. For one, I get the result I want, I'd be able to tweak it any time I wish and it will be different from the rest. $30-$40 is a reasonable price for graphics, but then again, it still differs specially when it comes to the intricacy of the graphics.

In as much as I can have my own graphic work designed by myself, I still find it within myself to get another work view from another designer to understand his or her own creative mind and approach to some kind of work. I can easily cough out between $40 to $60 for a good work without feeling like I paid too much for it as long as it's worth it in my eyes.

I've got a friend that does all the graphics that I need for the sites I work on. I also outsource jobs to him and so far, he has done excellently well for me. He gives a discount for each design done for me.

It's good that your friend is willing to help you. If you try to purchase a design online or let it be done professionally, It would really cost a lot. More power to you and your friend.

How much does your friend normally charge you for his services? How good is he with some of these jobs? I would like to see some samples if you don't mind in order to help me see if getting him to do one or two design work for me is worth it depending on his cost.

Thanks,
Martins.

It depends on the graphic I guess. But I have only bought graphics once and I only paid around $10 for that. I would never pay more than that because of the fact that most of the graphics I need are not that complicated and I just don't feel like paying anything more would be worth it. I am actually lucky at the moment because I have a graphic designer working with me on my project so I don't have to pay for any of the graphics for the site.

Yes, that's true. I think that the majority of things such as logos and banners are quite easy to make if you have a good idea and tell them exactly how you want it. It's far more difficult and expensive when it comes to buying the actual designs for the whole website. But then I guess if you're using WordPress, you can purchase the theme. Either way, keep your graphic designer friend very close How much are you willing to spend on graphics?

You are on point. It really depends on the graphics and the work that has to be done. Because I have seen a graphic designer charge almost $500 for a design, that didn't even took him more than a day to prepare. But the stuff applied on the designs, were really worth the money. So it depends on the nature of the design.

I'm willing to spend more than $20 if the quality's superb. I honestly think that the price should meet the quality of the work. So if the graphics is original, creative, and captivating, why not pay more to show your appreciation?

Considering that I have designed graphics before and even sold the designs quite a bit, it is very rare that I actually need to purchase something from another person. I prefer just creating the banner or whatever it is myself because it's easier to make it so it matches my vision. But generally speaking, I agree with you and I wouldn't feel comfortable paying anything more than between the price range $30-40.

When my decided to start her small business, she had to hire someone that helped her with graphics. In that moment, the guy offered different kind of graphics, and prices were depending on how complex and attractive they were. For that job she paid something around $15-25, and the work was really good. Right now prices are up to $40-60, so she had no other choice than to start making graphics herself. Can't deny was a little bit messy when she started, but so far she's doing really good.

I once hired an illustrator to do illustrations for the cover. I stated my budget and she agreed. Since she was my friend she agreed to do illustrations for my book for $300, otherwise, the service could have cost me at least $500. On Fiverr, I have paid $15 to do a logo. I am a graphic designer myself, even though I am not very skilled, therefore, I always try to do designing work myself.

WOW , $300 for graphics on a ebook. I sure hope that you got your money back from selling the book. I am not 100% sure of what the most is that I spent on graphic design. Although my current website has around $65 in graphics. Only because I reused a graphic from my other website. I just had my graphic designer change the wording around.

The ebook was also published as print on demand book on Amazon. It was a children story book with a picture on each pages. There were 35 pages. The artist also did the front cover and back cover. The money spent on the book was recovered from royalties. However, since my publishing cost was high I did not make good profits. The book is still available on Amazon.

I'm really not spending any money on graphics, except I'm outsourcing a job, that requires the touch of someone, with a higher skill than me, I do my graphics work by my self. But in cases when I don't have time, and I'm been limited, I outsource them and I have never payed more then $30 dollars though

For me, it depends on what kind of graphics work I'm looking for. If I need an intricate detail and has a nice touch and design, It's fair to pay a little higher as we need to consider their hard work, time and money they spend just to meet your expectations.

I guess it depends on the nature of the work I am requesting. I can do the simpler stuff myself, but I would be willing to pay more for stronger conceptual graphics, such as powerful and effective logos or really compelling ebook covers. A good graphic designer is worth paying for, but I am, unfortunately, a bit of a slave to my budget, so, for now, that determines what I can spend. I do think that $30 and $40 dollars as pay increments are fair for certain works from designers, though.

It definitely depends on the type of work and who is completing of course. If you are taking a risk and going with someone that hasn't done too much work or is not too popular then obviously you will pay a lot less than you would to a proper company specialising in business design work. That's the same as me, to be fair. I like to have a budget because I just feel too guilty paying a lot of money for graphics.

DarthHazard,
I see what you are saying. I know a lot of people in graphic design, and where I teach, there are tons of students who I know who are majoring in it; however, it would be unethical for me to employ any of them until after their graduation, in my current faculty capacity. That being said, a lot of them are extremely talented, and I would love to employ them and pay them for their work--this would also encourage them at the outset of their careers. Going to companies who specialize in this and using their people is also an option, and I do want the best quality work I can get, but I also want to support "the new guy" and the independent contractor or freelancer who is just getting his or her career off of the ground.

Technology has made our lives so easier that these days we can create amazing graphics for free. Whether you want a logo, banner or even book cover, you can find a lot of free tools online. Has anyone tried canva to create graphics. The program is free to use, but if you want better templets for the graphics you have to pay.

I've tried using Canva and it does meet my expectations. It offers competitive online designs which one can really use for free.

We don't need to spend a dime when there are numerously qualified software and apps that offer free graphics tools.

It is true that we can get create amazing graphics for free by using programs like canva, however, do you realize the importance of custom made graphics compared to generated graphics. By using graphic designing services like canva you will be using the templates that will also be used by many other people. However, bu hiring a designer, you will have a unique design and there is no other copy of that design.

It is going to vary on the situation at hand. For the most part, I would honestly prefer to not spend any money at all. This isn't because I'm cheap, but because I myself have years of experience in graphic design! Being that I have both experience and skills, it would be a shame to have to hand over the work to someone else.

But the fact is that you're not always going to have the time to get everything done yourself, even if you know how to. At most I would probably go up to around $100 depending on the project size. Anything greater than that and I'd probably have the incentive to find the time and do it myself.

Depends on the job. I order graphics from people on the regular so I know what I should or shouldn't pay for a certain type of graphic based on the work involved, time table, number of graphics ordered, and the quality of the artist.

I miust say, I agree with you. It all depends on the job. Money shouldn't play a the larger role of decide if or not to order graphics from a designer, though it matters all the time.

I have no idea what the standards are on prices of the said subject. With a little research am sure I'll come up with a general average price of what it cost to get a good graphics work done. I guess $50 is a fair enough price.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think that the cost of a design one is looking at getting should directly be determined by the kind of design one is looking at getting. So therefore, the more sophisticated and of good standard the design is required, the more costly it's supposed to be.
