Cheesy Photos You Had To Take on Vacation

I went to Singapore on vacation, and no matter how cheesy I found it to be, I still posed for a picture with that Merlion in the background. The Merlion is kind of like the official mascot of Singapore. It's just a mermaid with a lion for it's upper body part instead of a woman, hence the name Merlion. Everybody was taking pictures with the statue in Singapore, I even saw most of the passengers I flew with in the airplane taking their pictures there.

Have you ever gone on vacation, found an iconic tourist spot there, thought you wouldn't want to take a picture because it was so cheesy, but then eventually do it at the end?

I haven't personally been to Europe yet myself, but a number of my friends have been to Italy and they ALL did the cheesy "holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa" pose. I think that's the cheesiest one I've seen so far, and it gets repeated all the time by every tourist to Pisa, I'm sure.

Wow! It must be nice for anyone to go to Italy. I always read good memories of the statuses other there and I feel that taking some shots there is something that is a must when I have the time to make a trip down to the place from Africa.

Europe is popular for a lot of people from my country to travel to, especially Italy. I imagine a big part of it is because there’s so much history and culture there, as well as delicious food!

Yea Italy is great but Africa is the cradle of civilization and they are lot more to check too but I am not saying you shouldn't go to Europe, just also come to Africa.

I agree with you. Italy is a good place to go. I will also visit Italy if I can.

I would also want to go to Italy and other European countries. They have a lot of historical landmarks. I am also a pasta lover that is why visiting Italy is a great idea since they can offer all kinds of Pasta.

Yes, same here I love pasta, and I also want to go to Eiffel tower in Paris.

Me too! Eiffel tower is a great place to visit. I want to travel someday and Paris is my dream destination. They say that you need to have a lot of budgets if you want to go to Paris. This place is so beautiful! Watching Youtube videos of traveler makes me want to work harder and save money.

Since they are so many people here who love Italy I would also visit soon and see for myself.

Yeah, travelling to Europe is fine, and you will really enjoy it there.

They are more interesting and nice culture and civilizations in Africa that have nice and great drawing and ancient statues. Oromiyan staff or Obudu.

I had a few with the same pose too. It was hilarious yet very cheesy.

I’ve also seen people do cheesy vacation snaps with the Sphinx and Pyramids in Egypt. For instance people will take pictures that are made to look like they are kissing the Sphinx. Pretty funny!

These pictures are what make sharing fun. It shows how well we can recognize humor in each other. We basically get to find ways to stand out. The funny thing is that the more we try to be original, the more we become less of it.

It ought to be amazingly good to attract every tourist. It is not easy for all to like to take a photo with a tourist attraction. Photos normally know how to store a memory.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

theresajane
If I were there. I would actually be doing the same too. It's not bad, it's just for fun. You can take photos of different posts and angles afterwards. Just for fun, and it's like a tradition that every tourist has to do as a remembrance. It also brings money to Italy, and other places where tourist attractions are located.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Oh yeah, I’ve got nothing against it as long as people are being respectful. It’s just one of those very overdone shots - but let’s be honest, I’d probably be doing it too if I was there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's true. As cheesy as it is, we're all prone to joining in on the fun. It's not like we're losing something. Everyone relates to wanting those silly tourist shots. Makes for a funny memorabilia of sorts.

I agree with you, it is a generic photo pose but it is quirky and fun.

That's so funny. I wonder how the first person to have done that felt after being copied by everyone. We all know when something's worthy of imitation. I guess it's a community thing where we want to be involved and feel included.

I mean, who wants to miss out on the opportunity to enjoy doing silly stuff? You probably forget all the inhibitions once you're there and just have fun.

Have you seen the photographs of Murad Osmann? His girlfriend and he were the masterminds behind the "holding your girlfriend's hand in front of you like she is leading you" photo. They have an amazing repertoire of that same pose in places all over the world. A lot of people have imitated that type of photo, but no one gets close to the level of epicness from the original.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I didn't know that. I just Googled it now. Oh my gosh! Their pictures are amazing. Thank you for sharing that. It shows how creativity can definitely make life more interesting. Looking at their pictures make feel as though I'm watching an epic movie.

Kind of like the level of crisp clarity in Inception.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
Right?! I absolutely adore their work, and yes, the sharpness of the photos they take is gorgeous. They have a complete preproduction process as well, and I think that helps with the "epic feel". They carefully choose the clothes, colors, accessories, and background, to create a work of art.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That makes so much sense. I mean, you can't possibly take such stunning photos by accident. So the level of commitment they have is one to applaud. I wish them success for many years to come.

The only creative photo I have ever seen of Pisa was one of a girl holding an ice cream cone and pretending the Tower was an ice cream. It was very cool! However, that photo got viral and now it's been repeated a hundred times. If I ever go to Italy, I would just skip the obligatory Tower of Pisa photo. It's been done way too many times.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Oooh, that’s a more unique one than pretending to hold the tower up! I think if I was there I’d try the ice cream pose too!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
Yeah, of all the photos I've seen in Pisa, that one definitely stood out as the most creative of the bunch. I think there might be a lot of different and creative poses out there that haven't been done, but tourists are too lazy to think about a new concept and just go with the default photo of "leaning against the Tower of Pisa" pose.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Wow that's good but some day you will have to go to Europe so try and also take a picture with many statues and monuments.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
For sure. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for traveling there next year. I'd love to get to know all the beautiful architecture, all the statues, and temples. I'll take lots of pictures in them, although they won't be super cheesy hopefully.

I never been in Italy but I have local friends there. They invited me to visit their country but no time on my side. They told me how lovely their country is. The old churches everywhere is fantastic. Their pasta is amazing and one of a kind.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Haha, I think if I had the chance to go to Italy I'd be taking pictures of the food more than the monuments! I'm obsessed with Italian food - I'm sure getting to enjoy it right where it all started is an amazing experience for a person's taste buds!

I haven't been to Italy but it is one of my dream places for vacation. My sister has been to Singapore and she took a picture with the Merlion. It was very cute. I also want to go to Paris and take a picture with the Eiffel Tower. It would be a dream come true. I want to go there someday.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Singapore is nice country to visit. It is one of the smallest country in the world. You can travel the whole country in just hours. This is the reason why it is one of the progressive and developed country. Merlion is their main tourist attraction. Everyone I knew had pictures with merlion. I like Singapore to visit soon.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah. Singapore is like a small island. I wonder how they become so progressive despite the limitation with the area. Singapore is also known because of its cleanliness. A perfect vacation place.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

When cleanliness matter they are very serious into that. They have many certain rules regarding to the environmental cleanliness and even simple spitting in the public place is strictly not allowed and when they catch you the law punishment will be served.

I have not had time to take pictures of that in the past, but late last year when I got my new phone, I had to do so. I began taking nice photos each time we take a trip to the museum here. It is one of the way that I feel great and nice to do so.

Yes! In Washington D.C., in front of the White House, there were so many people taking pictures. I initially thought that I wouldn't do it, but eventually, that thought morphed to "ah, what the heck" and I went for it. Still haven't posted that photo anywhere.

Taking a picture with the Paris Efile tower in the background wouldn't be a bad view to behold. I have seen some football fans that go to France and always take advantage of snapping with the tower in their picture background, it looks so awesome.

Ah yes, the Eiffel Tower is a beautiful feat of architecture. Paris is a gorgeous city, I've never been but I do wish to go sometime!

Well, my take on this topic is, I ctually don't mind people taking cheesy pictures and poses. It's just for fun and it serves as a remembrance that you have been to a famous place. Anyway, you may have endless chances to take pictures in a different manner. Posing for one cheesy thing will not hurt you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. Taking cheesy photos should not be something a person should be ashamed of. It is a way to keep remembrances and take a time someday to reminisce the good times. Actually, it is kinda fun taking cheesy photos in different tourists spots.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

superlicca
That is right. Everyone has his own thing and taking cheesy photos is just a common thing to do. Photos can keep the memories forever. Going to the places that you don't usually visit is something that can be memorable. So, just keep on taking photos and have a good shot.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. Photographs really play an important part as it may help you be back on the good memories that you had. It doesn't matter if other people think that it's cheesy, as long as you're happy with what you are doing and it is right, just keep on doing it.

I had been into some vacation over the last month that had passed and I could say that I had also done several cheesy photos together with my family because i want to have a souvenir photos for those places that we had visited. It feels good to have such cheesy shots because I can have now some remembrance as time goes by. I cannot really refrain myself from taking photos of the well known places that I had visited since it is only once in a lifetime and I should enjoy it up to the fullest and grab the opportunity to have some fun which is really good and amazing.

Going to Egypt is on top of my priority this coming holidays. I have dreamt so much about seeing the great pyramid of Giza and some of the mummy artifacts and the Egyptian history. I have heard so much about the book of the dead, I would like to know if it really exist.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think that Egypt and the Sahara are the best places in the world to take incredible photos. I don't know if it's because of the sand dunes, the golden light or the exuberant culture that surrounds you everywhere, but I've dreamed of traveling there since I was a child. It also has such a rich history, and that would be amazing to see with my own eyes.

Well, vacations are meant to be fun. I tend to do the most bizarre things that I have never ever done before when I am on a vacation. Taking really absurd pictures in crazy poses is surely one of the things that most of us do especially when we are traveling abroad along with our friends. I have tried the craziest food when I went on a vacation recently along with my friends.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
That is a cool take on the idea of cheesy pictures. Just straight-up owning the fact that the look ridiculous and enjoy the moment. Bonus points if you're with friends!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you, and when yiu look back to the pictures you will remember how fun that vacation was.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think so. We all know those famous tourist spots. As much as we want to be different and original, we just can't. Not if we want to enjoy the places just like other people. Most of it involves taking pictures.

And the best places are often common tourist spots. So I stopped thinking about it and just snapped a lot of photographs despite how cheesy it may be.

Yes of course! If you go to Disney World you have to pose with Mickey Mouse!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Going to Disney World would be fun. There is a lot of beautiful spots there where you can take photos. Especially when you take a photo with the Disney Characters. Once you are there, you need to take every opportunity to create a great memory that you can keep forever.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes you are right on that it would surely it is full of fun and wonderful memories so we need to take advantage of it and make some cheesy photos if possible since it is only once in a lifetime. Oh, the first time I ever went to Disney I was trying to hunt down every character possible for a photo opportunity! I think whether you’re a child or a child at heart, Disneyland or Disneyworld is somewhere that creates a lot of special memories...and they’re nice to capture in picture form!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Because of what you have said it makes me want to visit it immediately. I heard that Disneyland is literally a Disney place to everyone. It doesnt matter how old you are, what matters is that you enjoy it and have fun while in there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
It doesnt matter how old you are, what matters is that you enjoy it and have fun while in there.

This is absolutely true. It's somewhere that you can enjoy at any age. I think even as an adult, Disneyland is the kind of place where you can forget about your worries for a while and just have fun. It's a special place for that very reason.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also want to go to Disneyland. They say that this place is not just for kids but for everybody. If I would be given the time and chance, I would like to meet all the characters and take a picture with them. I also want to see Sleeping Beauty Castle. I think it is good to go to Disneyland this Holiday season. I watched some videos of my favorite Youtuber who spent her Christmas last year in Disneyland and It was amazing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I would do that if I have a chance to go to disney land.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have never tried doing what you did on your vacation but I think that is fun to do. If I will have the chance to travel to other countries then I would take photos of every interesting place. When you travel, you need to enjoy every moment and every place that you visit. So, there is nothing wrong of taking photos of a place or things that you thought would be cheesy.

I've lived in Paris and travelled there a couple of times with family. Over the course of living there for a year and a half and three other trips back, I have managed to take hundreds of cheesy photos in front of the Eiffel Tower from every conceivable angle at every point in during the day. I'm pretty sure that at this point I could make a mural of me, standing in front of the Eiffel Tower and entirely construct it out of those said touristy photos a la Paris Hilton style.

That being said, I have cherished each time I've been to see the Eiffel Tower as it has always been with different people and is a fantastic time especially when its the first time that someone sees the tower. It reminds me of being 17 and in Paris for the first tine, staring in awe as the tower sparkled during the light show that occurs at the top of the hour, every hour during the evening.

Hah, I loved how in your reply you kid about the typical Eiffel Tower photo and yet you also add that it is an amazing structure. I've always wanted to go to Paris, and I'm sure that if I'm eventually to travel there, I'll be taking heaps of cheesy photos as well.

Paris is one of my dream vacation. I love to see the Eiffel Tower which is very popular and famous specially to those romantically in love. Paris also known as a fashion capital in the world.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

cmoneyspinner
Paris is definitely a dream for me. But since we're on the topic of taking cheesy photos, there are people now who are making fake cheesy photos. Like having a picture of the Eiffel Tower in the background and taking a selfie in front of it, as if they're really there. If I get desperate enough I could see myself doing something like that. LOL.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah I have seen too many photos of that. Some countries also did imitating that Eiffel tower and many people took photos on that even if they knew that was not authentic.

If you ever visit Washington, D.C., the capital of the USA, you know you will take a picture with the President! LOL. OK. It won't be the real president but the cardboard figure will make it almost look like you took a picture with the real president. LOL.

In all my travels, I have had only two “cheesy” moments that I've captured in my life. The primary came after I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time, and the second one got here once I stepped onto the plaza from the train station into the excellent world of Venice.

Honestly? I’ve thought about it, but I could never really bring myself to actually taking those cheesy, cliché photos.

I’ve thought about doing that classic “holding up the leaning tower of Pisa” one, or just the usual “holding a popular landmark in the palm of your hand” perspective, but I always just felt it was too overdone and uncreative. I know I sound like one of those hipster douches when I say this, but it honestly makes me feel like a sheep to consider imitating those cheesy photos that thousands of people have already done.

I know, I’m not a very fun person, haha.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I’ve often thought how it must look for locals at some of those venues, with a bunch of tourists all with their hands up in the air at varying angles. It actually makes me laugh out loud if I think about it too much!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I’ve actually seen a picture on Reddit that’s taken from the exact kind of perspective you’re talking about.

Someone was at the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, and as I had mentioned the classic pose there is to pretend like you’re holding up the tower. Believe it or not, there were probably like a dozen tourists in the same photo doing that very pose.

Someone took a picture from the side and it just looked absurd, almost surreal in some ways. It kind of looked like they were doing an impromptu Thriller dance, haha.

@mark8625 it was a picture I found online of people posing at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Definitely has that 90's feel, but I think nowadays you'd find even more people there trying to replicate that same pose. It's become quite an iconic spot for cheesy photo opportunities!

I had seen this picture before, but it continues to be as hilarious as the first time I saw it. All the tourists trying to be "unique". I can only imagine what the Italians who have to go through that route every day for work or to study must think of the legions of tourists doing the exact same pose.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's hilarious. You can definitely see the absurdity of it all. The context here is that everyone is attempting to do the same pose as others. While it looks cool on their shot, it just looks silly when taken from another person's angle.

It's like their secret's been exposed.

Yes, true. That is really my dream to visit Disney Land since I was young. I want also to visit and go on vacation to Japan. Japan is one of those amazing places I want visit also. Since you can see big mountains there, we do tricky and cheesy pictures there.

We also take pictures of ourselves in front of famous landmarks and some may even laugh at us because we sometimes take pictures of places some people wouldn't even think of taking a picture with but at least we're enjoying ourselves.

I don't think taking cheesy photos in different tourist spots should make an issue. It serves as a remembrance of that place and taking pictures is a must for me. I usually take photos in every tourist spot I would be because for me it is something that should kept. I may not post it in social medias, I still keep it in my phone and look at it and reminisce the good times. Especially the one I took in one of our local tourists spot that I kept on looking at because it is very memorable, the Luneta park. Because it is where we celebrated our 2nd anniversary with my LDR boyfriend.

You can take a cheesy photo of yourself from a different background or different places all over the world.

That's actually a great idea! Making the same cheesy photo pose in different places all over the world. I'd definitely check out a photographer's book that solely consists of that. Just imagine how cool would it be, both a critic of the same old cheesy poses and a creative way of turning that into something fun.

Yes, that's the spirit. It's like we're too conscious of what others will think of us. But really it's not the point. What matters is that we enjoy ourselves during these rare moments. We don't always get to travel to other countries.

Before, people bought their reels to go on vacation, made their photos and then, on the way back, they would do paper copies. So cheesy photos weren't so common in every single social network, as the photographer had a very limited number of shots. Most of the photographs that are taken nowadays are stored on memory cards and never get printed, which is an error because many of these images are destined to get lost.

I went to the beach last summer alone. My girl can't come with meas she has to work on that same weekend. So as I was hanging by the beach at sunset, there were a couple who approached me and asked if I could take their picture with the setting sun as their background. The funny thing is I had to take several shots as people keep walking on the background. Upon reviewing the photos, there was one shot where beside the couple, there was another three person on the pic. Two girls on their far left are waving: one girl waving in joy while the other have her hand on X shape. On the couples right an old man gave a peace sign to the camera. It was really epic.

Yes though kinda sound cheesy but everyone had a great time to that place with family, friends and special someone. Its nice to to keep a picture and gives you memories to go back from that time and recall all the scene happened on that day.

Well that is really great since I never thought that there is something like that place in the middle east particularly at Dubai. I thought that it was mainly pure of desert and that plants and water are very rare. I want to visit that place if I only have the resources to be there so that I will have a great and wonderful experience. I will surely take some cheesy photos as a souvenir form going there.

Dubai is one of the develop state in United Arab Emirates. Its development started just 1990's and it is one of the fast development from other countries around the world. Dubai is continuously amaze people and they are constructing the Future Museum which is about to finish before the Expo 2020 which will be held in Dubai too.

Well that is good to know since for sure many people would now become more interested to visit the place after having that museum since I know that people are fun of having some great experience and learning as well. It is one of the reason why we keep coming back from a certain place which is really good.

That is right. Every country has their own unique and very interesting spot that they can offer. Dubai has lots of it. My country has so many beautiful beaches that tourists keep coming back. We have many beautiful landmarks too.

Yes that is really true and I really enjoy the beautiful beaches that we have in our country because they are simply amazing. Every time I would like to unwind I just go to some well known beaches together with my family for me to feel relax and enjoy for a while. I had visited some of the tourist spots in our country and they are really awesome since you will be attracted to keep coming back again and again. Maybe if I only have a lot of budget then we might go out of town very frequent but I don't have the money right now that is why I just go occasionally.

I have a friend who have dream of becoming a blogger or influencer in the future, he/she invited me to go with tgem in Batangas, Philippines. We took a lot of picture, I become a photographer on that moment and I realized how confident she is. She does not card how other people think of her because we have wandered at all the places there. I'm even the one who got embarassed when its her whose posing and posing.

Well that is good that you had experience to become a great photographer on that very moment since I know you really enjoyed it so much. It is good to know that your fiend was really confident with what she is doing because we really need that attitude if we are trying to achieve something in our lives. I know for sure that you both enjoyed your visit on that particular place and achieve your plans on that day which is really a great experience and accomplishment as well.

Oh boy... Cheesy Photos You Had To Take on Vacation

Well discussing this subject already makes me feel uncomfortable, nonetheless, I must say that I remember quire a few cheesy photos on vacation that I did, but never uploaded them due to being ashamed.

What's funny, is that with time those photos don't seem so cheesy, but rather adorable.

Yeah i rarely take photos like that, I really don't like taking those kind of photos. Maybe just take a photo or two and then I move on or just walk by... Never liked doing that...

I always had this in my mind when I am going on a tour. I always plan to picture all of the places I will go. But in the end I end up taking no good photos. Sad.

Whenever I am going to some places that have some beautiful and great scenery I always make it a habit to have some photos since I want to have a remembrance for those places that I visited. I usually uploaded some of my cheesy photos in my Facebook account so that my friends and family could see my adventure into some places and might as well be updated on what I am already doing.

In 2009 I visited the Philippines for a few weeks. During that time, my friends led me around to all of the local tourist attractions, and of course, the obligatory photos were taken. One of the cheesiest was a giant pagoda in the town of Marikina, which is supposed to provide you with a spouse if you pose for a photo inside it. Since I was single at the time, I did the required photo op and laughed at everyone's jokes about my upcoming "marriage". I don't know, perhaps there was something to it, because within two years after the fact, I was married. (I joke, of course. I know the picture had nothing to do with it.)

@Novelange Well that is good to know that you enjoyed your stay in the Philippines since we do have some great places to unwind and make some fun. We have many places that you can have some of the cheesiest photo that you can ever have. It is nice to know that you get married soon after having a photos at that Pagoda in Makati which is really great to know.

I'm honestly too shy to pose and take cheesy shots. Even when we were at HK Disney I was way too shy and conscious of the presence of strangers all around me. I do envy those people who can take shots like that Cheesy Photos You Had To Take on Vacation

The cheesiest shot would have to be me dabbing on a historical monument in my country. Of course I'd never post it on social media but I want to remember moments like these by doing something silly. Silly moments stick to your memory more than just standing there doing nothing.

Cheesy photos you had to take on vacation: I went to Manila to visit my husband. And he show me places which people always go. I have this picture, but I don't find it cheesy at all. When we are having our lunch at KFC, he took a picture on me, a stolen one. I was in a bad mood and trying to find something on my bag, and my face something like no one can draw when he took the picture. He can hardly stop laughing, it looks like those stolen shots were funny.

I haven't tried taking photos in an iconic place aside from amusement park. It was a vacation with my student. I don't know if it is considered cheesy taking a photo with Merlin the wizard but the feeling is the same. Even if I hesitated to do so, I was still able to take photos with him because my student want to. Well it doesn't feel bad to feel like a child again even for a moment with a remembrance of a photo.

I think this week I haven't tried to make some cheesy photos because I am still busy doing some preparation for the coming Christmas days. I am sure that during the Christmas day we can have a lot of cheesy photos to make since we ant to have some good memories from the year 2018.
