Between selfie drones and selfie sticks

Both selfish sticks and selfie drones are components of modern photography, with the both evolving within the same era. Though i have not been able to take a selfie with a selfie drone, on the other hand, I've been able to take pictures with selfish sticks; and both the feel and the picture it takes are cool. Between selfie sticks and drones, which in your opinion do you think takes a better picture?

Both of these technologies or tools are very good in taking high quality selfie pictures. I have seen where both are used and they did an excellent job.

Although I'm more familiar with using selfie stick than the drones. They are more affordable and easy to use.

I agree with you. Selfie sticks is more affordable. It is also easy to be used than the drone.

It is true that selfie sticks is affordable but it has limited things to do unlike drones. Drones are expensive indeed but yet you can do so much thing about it. It can capture photos up in the sky and can do video too.

I think drones are very expensive. Selfie sticks are just affordable. If I have money I can buy these two.

Definitely it is expensive but yet more enjoyable to use. Aside from that drone can do things that selfie stick cannot do.

That's right. Drones are very expensive yet more enjoyable. Drones can produce big and great pictures that selfie stick could not do.

Drones are great for awesome overhead views and group photos but when it comes to close range selfies, I do think selfie sticks are the norm.

Nothing wrong with selfie sticks in fact as of this date many people are using and buying it though there is drones in the market. It is obvious that drones is expensive but it can do many things.

I agree with you. Selfie stick is good. Yet drones have many uses.

Yeah and yet it is expensive. Let us use between the two that depends to what we need and what our budget. Both are useful but very different when it comes to performance and price.

If only I have money to burn, I'll buy a drone in a heartbeat. Selfie sticks are great tools but they only serve one purpose, and that is to help take selfies. Drones, on the other hand, is excellent to have for capturing breath-taking sceneries from a birds-eye perspective.

I believe drones go for about $400 or more. I'm not sure if there are used ones sold on the market and if they come at a lower price.

Selfie sticks are better due to the affordability, accessibility and ease of operation. However, no one can deny the fact that drones are a dream and when you acquire one you can have a lot of fun taking some amazing pictures.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
Technology is progressive. It is always advancing. I think in the future there could be more highly advanced gadgets in taking pictures.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
I also think so too. There may be some light or cheaper and smaller drones that are controlled easily and their manipulation or use in photoshoots will then be excessive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Well the thing is that the price difference has a lot to do with the fact that they both have vastly different functions.

Selfie sticks are made pretty much for the average consumer who just wants to take better selfies while traveling, therefore they’re also priced that way (not to mention it’s not like they’re some next level technological advancement).

On the other hand, “selfie drones” aren’t really a thing, they’re just called drones and happen to have cameras attached to them, so you're not only paying for the cost of a remote piloted flying device, but an HD camera too. A lot of vloggers and filmmakers use them for sweeping panoramic shots and not really selfies, since you really wouldn’t want the rotors anywhere near your face anyway.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I know numerous production companies especially in the music world who rely on drones and the technique has been a thing for quite some time now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
True. Selfie sticks are much more affordable and could be easily used because drones are a bit too hard to maneuver especially if you're still not used to it. With selfie sticks, your only concern would be your shoulder and arm strength and stability because just like me, a lot of people suffer from shaky arms which is totally a bummer for taking selfies.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
There are also areas where it is illegal to fly drones and you need special permission from the authorities which means that you can get into trouble for using them without having to let the respective officials know first.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
True. I almost forgot about this fact and thanks to you for making me remember. It's actually legal here where I live but for countries like Australia and other first world countries, you need to have a license to fly a drone and for me, I think it's bit of a hassle. But, if I was a professional photographer/videographer and I happen to live in those countries, I will definitely apply for a license so that I can take breathtaking shots using drones.

Mostly what gives you a choice between the two are:

Suitability How suitable is one against the other.

Availability Which one is more available to you?

Affordability Which one is more affordable to you.

In my opinion selfie sticks are really the correct tool to use for taking good selfie photos. It's cheap, easy to use and efficient unlike drones which can be really expensive and complicated depending on the model.

Drones are really cool, but out of my price range - I don't think I'd invest in one purely to take pictures of myself!! I think selfie sticks are way more affordable to the average person out there, and that's a big drawcard for most of us.

I agree that drones are very cool but then the price might be high for us and I cannot also afford to have it, I can only afford to have the selfie sticks because they are more cheaper than the latter and that is the advantage of selfie sticks because we can easily have them without worrying to have a huge penny and besides it is also great to use since I am using it already for a long time.

I know what drones are, sometimes people who own it put a micro cam to it for photos, however I thought it was just for air photos, not for selfie and I haven't use a drone for selfie. Just the selfie stick.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Honestly that's what I thought drones were for too, I don't know how you would take a selfie with them. I guess it's possible if you could maneuver the drone to be in the right spot!

Sometimes a selfie stick can do the trick and the picture taken would look like a product of a selfie drone. You just have to have a selfie stick that stretches 3 or 4 times that of a regular selfie stick. It is also a skill to wield such a long selfie stick, so take caution and practice in private first.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, yes, you have a point. But it will only limit to what you can reach, unlike drones that can capture the whole place like a little island. I've seen pictures from my friend who has a drone and she took a picture while being on a little island that disappears during high tide.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

There many drones that may be classed as a selfie drone. A few are quite costly others are pretty reasonably-priced. In my opinion i would go with the newly launched DJI drone. Comes in only under around a hundred bucks and has a few effective capabilities. An excellent drone for selfies.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Both are very useful. Selfie stick is very popular until now but there is Drone now that making a big impact to the people. I think I will go for drone because aside from its new, it has things that can do which selfie stick cannot.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Well, for one thing, I’d say that selfie sticks are more practical (even though I personally find them ridiculous). You can carry them around with you and use them just about anywhere without issue. That being said, the level of creativity with selfie sticks is pretty limited.

Your options definitely open up more when it comes to drones, but they also have their limits. For one thing, you’re not going to want to carry a bulky drone with you everywhere you go, unless you’re someone like a YouTuber who makes a living making vlogs with cool drone shots. Not only that, but as drones are becoming more popular, a lot of places are actually banning their use so you’re not going to be able to take a drone selfie everywhere you go.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I guess using drone would be better for those people who are capturing videos and not just for selfies. I agree that using selfie sticks is more practical to use than drone as you don't have to spend too much to get good selfies. It can be carried all around unlike drones that you should have it guarded all the time as some people might stole it from you because it is expensive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Yeah, most people carry around their drones in pretty heavy cases, so that they’re not only locked away but are protected from any sort of damage. Drones have plenty of sensitive parts so it’s pretty essential to keep them in cases with protective foam lining.

I suppose they aren’t such a big deal to carry around if you drive a car, since you can just throw them in your trunk, but I definitely don’t see myself lugging around a big drone case when I go sightseeing somewhere.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jeffreyjose48
I agree with you. Drones are not just for selfies but also for creating good videos. One must guard his drone to avoid it from being stolen because its very expensive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm more familiar with selfie sticks since they are a lot cheaper and more accessible. Selfie sticks do the trick, though of course the distance is limited. On the other hand, drones, while more expensive, have way better functionality and operability.

if I had to choose one though, I'd choose the selfie stick based on practicality.

I own neither of them. Honestly, the quality of the pictures you'll get won't rely on these sticks or drones but mainly on your camera. Hope this helps.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I am in agreement with your comment. You can have a selfie stick or selfie drone, but if your camera is pathetic, then the photos will be bad because all depends on the lens.

I have never thought of purchasing any of them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
I know right, both devices only serve as an aid in taking pictures and does not necessarily help regarding picture quality.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. No matter how long your selfie sticks are or no matter how high your drone could fly if your camera doesn't have a good amount of megapixels, you'll still not get the photo you desire. You should consider first the capability of your camera if it can take a good shot of a photo even from afar. Selfie sticks and drones are just tools, it still depends on your camera.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Correct, although the majority of drones have built-in cameras on them, so it's still possible to take shots. They are more pricey though.

Well, I have never used a drone to take selfies and also not seen anyone using drones to take selfies. I have only seen people using drones to take pictures during bigger occasions like weddings and engagements. For taking selfies the best option is to use a good quality selfie stick. I make the use of selfie stick almost everytime I have to take selfies. Selfies are more affordable and easy to use. Everyone may not be able to use drones to take there pics because drones are more expensive than the selfie sticks.

It is my dream to have a drone!
If given a chance, I would be very happy if I will have a drone. I prefer drones because I am not a selfie person. I always find myself cringing whenever I see myself in a picture. I would rather take pictures and videoclips of scenery than my face.
Drone can give so much possibility what to feature unlike selfie sticks. But expense-wise, drone is so expensive ang high maintainance. The expense will be worth it because Drone was able to make vlogging in a new level.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Same here. Having a drone is a must especially if you love to travel. The only thing that's stopping me from buying one is the price. If I invest money on it, it should at least return monetary gains, and the only way it is possible is by taking drone shots of breath-taking sceneries and posting them on YouTube.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yea thats true, with the price for a single drone I think it should be making such money back for me, drones can be used to make aerial view of landscape and building structure which can generate little income if the photo is sold, that's if it's a great photo or make amazing videos that can attract viewers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Forgive me, everyone, because it's just me, I'm a cheapskate. Whenever I buy something, I always consider its value in the long run. I always ask myself "Do I need it?" when I purchase something.

Both are good, but we should always consider the quality of the camera. Even though I haven't tried using or even touched a drone, I really think that it really satisfies the user in terms of taking cool pictures and angles. But as of now, I'll settle with selfie stick because it is what I can afford and bring anywhere.

Drones carry the day. It is easier to remotely operate them and get good images. I think they are better than sticks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yea but don't forget it involves charging the battery and what happens when you have a faulty battery, well drone is far better than selfie stick and I don't think they should be compared

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Although drones are the best, and the quality can be great, most people own selfie sticks. This is because drones are expensive than selfie sticks. Also, it is easier to main a selfie stick compared to drones.

I have never tried to have a selfie using a drone since I don't have something like that but I saw some advertisements about and it looks really great. I am using a selfie stick most of the time since that is the only thing that I can afford for now, It is also great since it also gives me a good shot which I am already enjoying during some pictorials outdoor.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Selfie stick is mostly used because it is affordable and easily accessible in most country. But drones has more nice concept for outdoor photos.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes I agree with that and I think if we have the money we should try to have the drone selfie because it is very great in terms of having a good shot and besides we can also make use of it for earning purposes since we can accept some deals with other people that want to have a drone experience because not all can afford to have such like that equipment which is very great and useful.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Same with me, selfie stick is the thing that I can afford as of the moment. Having drones would be very great too. It must be fun having drones while traveling and when you're on a vacation, as you can document everything around you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
Although capturing selfies with a drone is much better, it might be very expensive as you will need to buy a drone. I would go with selfie stick. Using selfie stick could give you assurance that your gadget is safe. Although the view might be limited to the length of the stick, it can still provide a good quality of selfie. It can also easily find in stores and buy it in a cheaper price compared to the drone. I experienced taking a selfie by using a drone, the good thing there is that, it gave us a wider and higher view of our background. But I usually get scared if ever the drone might fell to the ground causing it to get destroyed. I can say that it is safer to use selfie sticks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Oh I've been the same way. I have a selfie stick and seem to always forget it when I actually need it! Since I often travel solo for work, I like having one with me so that I don't have to ask other people to take my picture if I'm visiting somewhere cool!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Drones need a lot of expertise for you to properly manipulate it. And it's expensive as well, to the view that was captured by a drone is a lot cooler than a selfie stick.

I think it depends on where you live. For city life, a selfie stick might be better. For more suburban or rural life, a selfie drone could work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
Yes, you will enjoy more of the drone if you live rural life. It could be dangerous using a drone in a big city full of obstacles.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes I agree on you, having a drones is really good for rural areas because it can give us more space for our drones to fly and have the chance to stay longer in the air. While in big cities it is difficult for our drones to fly high and achieve its objective because of so much obstacle that might be a hindrance in committing its objective which is to get beautiful scenery of a particular place.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Janie1994
Depending on where you live, it might be better to invest in a selfie stick rather than a drone. It some jurisdictions- national marine sanctuaries, close to government buildings, places with restricted flight areas- you can get into serious trouble trying to use a drone. Also, selfie sticks are simply safer and don't run the risk of injury to yourself or others. So the question of which one takes better pictures doesn't really matter when you consider all the potential reprecussions of using a drone in an area where their usage is restricted.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes that is really true and sometimes some drones are being prohibited from flying to some areas because some people view it as a threat to privacy because others may find it as being used for spying even though it is not really for that purpose.I think this are one on the things that are being thrown when we are trying to use some drones from photo or video shoot somewhere else.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Janie1994
Yeah, there was recently a controversy in the US because people were viewing this footage of a bear cub struggling to climb rocks and overcome obstacles or whatever and cheering it on but then scientists had to explain that the bear cub was trying so hard to getaway and escape because it was terrified of the drone. People forget that these are new machines which aren't really properly regulated and pose dangerous threats to our individual freedoms and the environment surrounding us.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes that is why we need to be sure that we are not threatening other people or even some animals while using our drones because we might be put into trouble if someone will find it to be a potential threat to national security. It is good to ask some permission first to a particular place when we are to use some drones so that we will have no problems in using it. Safety should be our main concern and responsibility as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Also in the city there are already drones flying around for news channels, companies, police departments, etc. The last thing you want is your drone interfering or colliding with one of theirs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

A hard question for me. Why? Because they can both give us good shots. Depends on what kind of shots you need.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I might never buy a selfie stick, however, I am interested in a drone with in build camera. I want a drone to explore the areal view. However, a drone cost a lot of money and I am not buying it anytime soon.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Drones take much better photos than selfie sticks, as with a drone you are able to capture more of the view that is surrounding you. For this reason, it is important to select an interesting or beautiful place. When taking a 'dronie', keep in mind that you will only be the focal point for a short period of time while the drone moves further away, showing the surroundings.

To take a great photo with a drone, start by raising it between 5 and 10 feet off the ground. Next, look at the camera towards yourself and make sure that the desired background is behind you. If your drone has an advanced gimbal, it is recommended to set it at a level angle so that when it retreats, it captures the horizon instead of the ground.

Selfie stick is very convenient to use and affordable as well, if we are experiencing some tight budget then selfie stick is good for us. The shots using a selfie stick is also good and I think that the quality of the image would now depend on how we will use the selfie stick for capturing the very special moments of our life. It is good and a fun way to explore with the use of selfie stick especially if we are a photo shot lover.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well I would choose drones over selfie sticks. Though there might not be a big difference between the quality of the pictures themselves, drones would give you the chance to capture shot where you normally can't go. Like a cliff shot.

These two are great camera accessory and tool. It will help us to keep a stabilized footage and a well-angled image. However, I would pick selfie sticks between these two. Although selfie drones will give a cinematic look and will capture wider image, I prefer selfie sticks for convenience and ease of use.

I think drones have way more capabilities over a selfie stick. A selfie stick's angle is limited by the person who's holding it while taking the photo. On the other hand, the drone could take the photo on a higher angle and places which you couldn't reach. Taking photos is also very effortless unlike with using selfie sticks. The only downside though is that drones were kind of expensive compared to selfie sticks.

Selfie drones are a tough pill to swallow when you can buy a selfie stick for less than $2! Why spend so much more money to take selfies of yourselves when you can do it "manually" and pocket the difference? Buying a selfie drone can be just an effect of the fear of missing out (FOMO).

Selfie sticks and drones are both helpful in taking of pictures and they are also used depends on the type of the picture or scene you want to take. Selfie sticks are usually used for some great background and for some group pictures while drones are used for a wide range of picture. Drones could easily capture an entire small island or some cities but you could also used drones for some dramatic background like sunsets or sunrise but with a wide angle.
