The best anti virus for free for a new laptop

I just bought a new laptop last month and I wonder if I could get a free anti virus online since I am new into the world of computers and I really don't know much about it. Can anybody suggest on the best free anti virus that would be suitable for my new ACER aspire E 14 with a 4 GB of ram and 1,000 GB HDD?

I am interested to hear you opinions about it, please do share your experiences.

The same is true with me. I am also using the avast antivirus. Truly it does its job and really works well.

Agreed. The software also has a subscription option where you can use exclusive features that will definitely help clean and secure your laptop. Although the free version is also very helpful and is already enough.

I've been using Avast for years, and it is indeed reliable. Download it for free on their website and make sure you always have an updated virus database installed.

I agree with you. It is very reliable. You can just download it for free.

IKR. However, you get pop-ups every once in a while asking you if you would like to upgrade to the premium version. Nonetheless, it's all good and gets the job done.

I agree. Ever since our family had our first laptop, Avast has always been a very big help and very convenient for us. I always recommend it to my friends whenever they search for anti-virus that won't cost them even a penny.

I also agree with you. Avast is really a big help for those who have new laptop. It is also very convenient and free.

It's availability is also vast in many countries which is why I consider it a great rival to any antivirus out there.

I use Avast as well. Apart from doing its job of protecting your gadget from virus, it also have suggestions on what you can do to further improve its performance like extending the battery life and cleaning useless data in the memory which you can do for free.

Yes, agreed. I used avast too for my laptop and desktop. I have been using this for many years and it has been performing very fine since then. I just downloaded its updates for better performance and it has a free version which we can enjoy. So avast is recommended, also it isn't big in size.

I've always used Avira in the past for a free anti virus. It's better than nothing. You can go straight to their website and download it there.

You don't have to post your laptop's specs for recommendations on an anti-virus. It's a software thing compatible with any computer. Doesn't require specs.

Avira is what my pal has been using and so far, there has been no complaints about it. I think that what is necessary is for us to always download it directly from their official website as this is one of the ways to ensure that we get the better offer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
What's ironic is that you can use an illegally downloaded patcher tool to generate serial numbers to get full access to the premium features of the antivirus. I just think that the free ones don't offer the same as when you pay for it. Hey at least I didn't spend anything on it.

I like to suggest you to use Norton as antivirus to your laptop. Due to Norton antivirus is a incredibly essential software in nowadays and age as with technology on the upward thrust by using it to the threats like viruses, hacking spams, malware, adware and so forth. which could steal, manipulate, erase, corrupt your information. So no matter how pricey a laptop can be, you aren't proof against the approaches of a cyber-crook.

Norton is what I use too and I've always had good experiences. I've thankfully never had anything happen to my computers/laptops - of course, I know nothing is ever 100% guaranteed but thus far my experiences with Norton have all been good.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
I had an experience using Norton before way back Windows XP days. The anti-virus is good and does its job, but it's just that there are too many things going on in the program that I don't understand, like pop-ups everywhere, here and there and might be a little intrusive or maybe that's just me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
I don't know. Norton just seems like a bad anti virus to me. On the same level as ESET. I don't know if it's just me. If it's pre-installed with your computer, then it's a bad program.

Avast has a very good chance of fighting virus and its free too but i don't think an free anti-virus can actually avoid or eradicate a virus in a laptop, i was using a laptop few month ago and in that laptop i have many anti-virus that was free but the laptop was still infected with virus even after i have more than four anti virus in it. I don't believe free anti-virus works at all , currently i don't have any in my new laptop, am very being careful with what i download or install.

I'm a McAfee and AVG user for a very long time and both of them are reliable anti malware software. It's really important to have a working antimalware in your PC.

I am not aware of any free anti-virus software for a laptop since I am using Kaspersky which I paid when I bought my laptop. But it is great to know that there is a free anti-virus software. I am just not sure if you can all the features that you get from the paid software.

I have already an installed Norton antivirus on my laptop but then it says that it is already expired and I need to renew it. Do I need to pay for it? I am not good at antivirus that is why I am seeking your best opinion so that I can protect my laptop from this unwanted viruses that might damage the system or corrupt most of my data files.

I use 360 Total Security. This antivirus is a complete package, it not only secures your computer, but also stops threats while browsing internet. I have been using the free version of this program since a long time and I never have had any problems.

I also have bought a new laptop and have been using the McAfee antivirus pack which came free with my laptop for one month. I have never used a free anti-virus software on any of my devices because I am not very sure how much security these free software will provide to my devices. I have recently purchased anti-virus package for three years from McAfee at a very low price in the Amazon discount offers. I think it is always better to spend a little amount on the anti-virus software and be assured about the security of our devices.

I uninstalled the McAfee that comes pre-installed on my laptop as it uses too many resources on my system. I installed Avast Free instead and could not have been happier.

I am still using windows 10 defender with the belief that it is as strong as it is said to be. I have never suffered any major threats up to now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Oh man, Windows Defender? I can't say anything about it, but I'm just a little doubtful as Microsoft is not an anti-virus company in the first place. But hey, if it works out for you, it's all good.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is the exact same reason why I uninstalled McAfee on my laptop. I switched to Avast as well and haven't encountered any problem. I've changed laptops already but I always go back to Avast.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Another reason why I uninstalled McAfee was that it's only for a limited time like a 3-month trial then you need to buy a license key. So I just went for a free version of Avast.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
Why pay when you can get one for free that does the same job and even better, right? I have an unopened Norton box here that came with my laptop and I didn't even bother installing it and just downloaded Avast right away.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Haha! Really? Did the Norton come for free? Then why didn't you install it? Oh, I guess it's only a trial version, and it would ask you to buy a license after a month or so.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
Its a whole box and everything, I don't know I've heard Norton isn't really good and my uncle told me Avast is better since it was on his laptop. And I have a lot of respect for my uncle and his opinions since he's like a second father to me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

NerdIndeed
Oh, okay. And your uncle's right, Norton is meh. I've used it before although a long time ago on a Windows XP machine, and it's taking up a lot of resources that's been hogging my system. I switched to Avast and voila! Problem solved.

My younger brother told me that Avira anti virus is the best. He is currently studying computer science of one of the prestigious school here in Philippines. He is kind of expert when it comes to computer desktop or even laptops. Before I had used the Eset but I think this brand doesn't work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
Yes. ESET sucks. It doesn't feel like an anti virus when I was using it. It was pre installed in one of the laptops I bought. You know when you insert the installation disc when you first opened the laptop. I think lots of people feel the same about this particular anti virus and now it's not a household name anymore.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yeah, I feel the same. When I bought the laptop, the seller asked me if I wanted to put anti virus and he recommended me this ESET but he charged me 800 pesos for him to activate the antivius that will only last for 2 years. I accepted it and they successfully installed it. I thought that this antivirus works well as I don't really notice some pop ups but then I found out that my laptop has a lot of virus when my brother told me that thing.

I don't know if it's the best but I use. AVAST. My daughter told me to use it. The best anti virus for free for a new laptop

You can never go wrong with Avast Anti-Virus the free version. I have used it for years and did not have any complaints. You'll get notifications for a premium upgrade but its subtle and not borderline annoying. Download it for free on their website.

I have been making use of Avast anti virus for as long as I can remember now and I have never been disappointed by its security firewall against any sort of virus that might seek to creep into my HP laptop.

So, I would strongly recommend getting avast for your new laptop. I also heard that Windows Defender is good as well.

I have a pre installed ByteFence Anti-malware in my laptop which protect it form malware that want to destroy the programs of my computer. Everyday I am experiencing malware and virus attack whenever I am browsing to some bitcoin faucets and thanks to these programs since it helps me a lot to not be worried about it.

Based on my experience and according to our mentors as a former IT student, there are no such thing as anti-virus. There are no softwares capable of terminating these viruses. In fact, some anti-virus softwares are the ones who creates the virus in your computer. Though there are some softwares that might help by prompting warning messages when a virus is detected, this isn't also guaranteed. As for me, I'm not fond of anti-virus softwares and even PC perfomance boosters.

All of them are good for the laptop. Why? All of them are the same if that is free. They will only be good among the others if you will try thier paid versions. But if you want free just choose any from them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes I just want to have those free anti virus app since I heard that free anti virus works also well just like those paid ones and it makes me think to have those since I can even save money from it because having the paid ones is very costly and I din't have any budget for that honestly. Maybe for now I will tried the free ones and if I will not be satisfied then I might tried the paid anti virus.

Avast has always been helpful to me and to my family. Ever since I tried Avast, I was and am completely satisfied and so are my family members. When they were able to finally have their own laptop, I automatically recommended to them that they should have it since it's free and it's been good to my laptop. They were happy to have something for free that helps them greatly.

I use AVG now, I never really use protection because I always knew to be careful with emails and sites, but some viruses recently got past me and I had to install a free antivirus. Got a free version of AVG, but now that I read this thread, I'm sad I didn't see Avast first. Haven't used that before, Norton I have, did not like it. McAfee was okay before, now it kind of sucks.

I was using Avast but shifted to Smadav free version. Since then, I can say Smadav is awesome because it helped me clean trojan viruses that were really messing my laptop.

There are good free scanners but if you want high quality and long term virus protection and removal, you need to PURCHASE a program. There are some good affordable ones out there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Hey there!
Well it depends, as there are several suitable programms.
What I would suggest is to get the free anti malwarebytes, which is better than an antivirus with the extra features it has.

Avira is my favorite free antivirus. I remember not using an antivirus for months and when I installed Avira Free (because I became aware of cyber security), it removed like millions of viruses on my PC and I was truly shocked! I highly recommend it & I'm glad they're still using that red umbrella logo.

But I don't use it anymore, I cleaned my PC recently, uninstalled everything I don't need for like a fresh start and got rid of Avira too. Now, I'm using the built in Windows Defender.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

@ivandelrey I have never tried the avira antivirus but I will take a look on it since it is new to me and it is really free. I think this kind of antivirus is what I am looking for. I have never heard also about Windows Defender but I am interested to know more about it.
