What is the future of phone cameras

Currently camera designs have evolved to unaimaginable designs. Not so long ago if you told someone that you want to do your photoshoot with a phone they would have loved at you. The case is pretty different in the modern day as many phones come with super cameras. Photographers have been phased out to some significant level. We now have double cameras that are very great and it is normal for phones to have both front and rear cameras.

Where are we headed with such tech? How will the cameras look in the next 5 or 10 years?

How will camera would look like in the next 5 years or more? I would say that it's still going to be virtually the way it is but with increased megapixel as we are witnessing today. Before it was just a few megapixel but now we have some phone cameras with 24 megapixel front selfie camera. So, I believe that it would still keep improving to the infinity.

Honestly, I have no idea on what might happen in the next five years. I have no idea about how far technology will reach. I just hope that all the innovations will be for the betterment of our lives.

I agree with you. I also don't know what will be the design or the things that the cameras can do in the next 5 to 10 years. Technology is moving drastically and it's very unpredictable.

Martinsx1
Haha, the future shouldn't scare you my friend when it comes to technology advancement, it's something we can all face together and pass through it without getting blown away. The world is not any where close to what it used to be and we are still here. So, with camera development, it's just going to get better.

No one can really predict the future. What I'm sure about is that technology is ever changing and improving. Every now and then a new phone with a greater megapixel comes out in the market that most people can't almost keep up. It is always going to be this way. I just hope that every enhancement of technology will be for the betterment of everyone and not to be use as a cause for destruction.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
This is exactly my point when one is asked about the future of cameras say in the next 10 years time. All I can ever predict is that within that time frame, we are simply going to be witnessing upgrading of the camera technology in its megapixel as time goes by. We may eventually get to have 200 megapixel rear camera and 500 megapixel front camera installed on smartphone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is correct. Technology will become more advance and for that even camera will become high tech than usual.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
The more advanced we become the better we will be at using our phones as we can take better pictures and videos. There are fewer companies that have not learnt to embrace innovation especially with cameras and this is a great sign.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Same here. The best we can hope for is positive change. Let's wait for the next new thing. Maybe we'll get better resolutions. I'm not even sure how close it is to human vision. Hahaha!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
Hope so too. But there are always downfall for reaching the innovations. There are always negative whenever we make good things in gadget world. Hope they will not make it so much bad effect to us.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
I hope so too because obviously too much of something can turn dangerous or even disastrous and as such it would be wise to have some checks here and there.

I agree with you. I also don't have any idea of what will happen to phone cameras. But I believe its going to improve more and more which is good for all customers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is always great to be optimistic and look ahead. There are good things that await us in the innovation world and more so everything tech so I think that all we can do is wait and see.

Yep me too I also hope that it doesn't get so much expensive because I wouldn't be able to have it and enjoy the latest camera phones maybe the ones that has the same quality with the DSLR cameras, I mean who knows after 5 or more years it would be like that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's funny. I think you're right. The clarity and resolution will continue to evolve as years pass by. This could be why most cameras don't sell as much as they used to

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yeah, improving the quality of the images from phone cameras to a level similar to cameras used by professionals is the trend. There are also developments of photography-focused smartphones just as how gaming phones are developed, which can phase out even the more expensive cameras if the phones reach that level.

I thought the camera will die a natural death as the smartphone is taking over its role. Do you agree with me?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Cameras are here to stay. Smartphones cannot and will no phase-out cameras. We have TV studios and filmmakers who rely more on cameras. The industry is growing, and the more the demand.

You are convincing me now. Vlogging is really taking over the internet. Vlogging needs a good camera, tripod stand and other paraphenerlia to produce high quality vlogs

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

emiaj55
I agree. It is still much better in using Camera for movies and blogging since they are specifically intended to capture images. Mobile phone cameras's development is not yet stretched to the point of dethroning camera's since mobile phones are not really specifically intended for that purpose alone. They have to make use of their resources in developing the whole phone and not the cameras in it alone. But I think they may get there someday.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

focusedwriter10
I am in agreement with your thinking. Technology improvement will only lead to enhance cameras, and nothing more. Smartphones will be enhanced but they will never phase-out cameras.

We never know what heights can phone cameras rech in the future. Technology has been advancing through the years. It would be very great if one day, we will be able to capture and see photos from a camera phone in 3D.

Here is the reason why photographers will (most likely) never be phased out: lenses (and skill/talent obviously).

All the megapixels in the world aren’t going to replicate what a good DSLR lens can do. There is a reason why some camera lenses can cost many times more than several of the most expensive smartphones. Dual cameras are just now starting to barely touch upon what standard SLR lenses could do for decades.

If smart phone companies want a shot at competing with DSLRs, then they’re going to have to develop smart phones with attachable lenses. It’s already being done with macro lenses, so it’s possible that they’ll go even farther in the future.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
You sound like me. Pictures from your phone can help you keep your memories safe, however, you need a proper camera to take pictures of professional quality.
Now that phones are coming with 16 or more mp, many people believe that this will phase out the professional camera, which is not true. You need a proper camera with a good lens to take good pictures.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Alymae
You have a point. I think smartphones won't be able to replace photographers. First, as you've stated, they do have to develop smartphones with attachable lenses. The smartphones can simply cannot compete with technology as smartphones are not designed to be used for photography. Second, is the skill. I believe that the skill of a photographer is really needed to take amazing pictures. I know a photographer who can show emotions in his pictures. His very skillful when it comes to angles and he can make the model different in front of the camera.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
The skills and talents are definitely the biggest parts of what’s going to make photographers irreplaceable. You can take the best camera in the world and put it in the hands of an amateur, but you won’t get the kind of results a professional is going to get even with something like a smartphone.

There’s a reason why people with the latest camera phones aren’t going around doing photography for events, because it takes much more than just camera quality to take a beautiful photo.

The ultra transparent with hologram games and video hcatting. I think that will be the awesome part of the future phone.

Great idea here What is the future of phone cameras We will see if this is possible after 5-10years. Who know's how advance the technology is when that time comes.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You will be surprised that maybe someone is already spwnding hours working on such staff and they may get a breakthrough soonest. I mean with innovations once thwy happen we seem to forget the times that they were impossibilities.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I agree. It's like how we see in futuristic movies. In fact, holograms are now a thing for most news stations. Though, it probably won't be available to the public for a decade or so. I bet it would be cool to have that as a phone feature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kammy143
Actually there are multi-lens camera available in the market today. Ones that can surpass the quality of dslrs. One such camera is the one I saw on youtube that has 16 lenses. I think the name of that camera is Light L16 or something. I was overwhelmed with those multiple lenses it has and I found it a bit ridiculous to look at. But, the given specs on the camera is way way too cool just to brush off or set aside. You can take jump shots without fail and the pixels are to be wrecken with. The designers of that camera seems to have a fighting urge to compete or surpass the abilities of dslrs in my opinion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
The more smaller, the more powerful camera I think. They're surely developing the high quality camera for phone right now, and they will keep developing that. Companies know how in demand the high quality phone camera in the market right now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Yeah, the phone makers keep making the cameras of such phones to look super and nice and that is it one way that they could keep doing the thing that they know best. I am Keen to see how everything develops.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
This is what most consumers want, they not even know the other specs but never forgot the mega pixels of the phone camera, and companies took advantages of this mindset. Look at some phone commercials, some of them just highlighted the camera and not the other specs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kammy143
I don't think it's like that. It is not about the size of the phone, but it is true that they are developing a more compact and higher pixels on phone cameras. The phone companies now a days really does put their consumers' want and needs, and they are really putting extra effort in making new innovations to make their target market more satisfied.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
I think that smaller powerful cameras are already in existence. I'm sure that you are very aware of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), they already have such cameras which they use to carry out their spy work. CIA is the most dangerous government security agency in the world today if you ask me because of their spy service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, but I think this one still not available on public, or in our phones, that cameras exclusively for them. Yeah, You're right, I think even without the camera, This CIA already has access on every ordinary people by simply using the internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Exactly! You are very correct my friend with that assertion on such techs not being available in the public use till now because it's just would turn the world into a chaotic situation. The drones that are used now was never in the public usage but with a lot of deals going through have made drones to be accepted and used by the general public.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, because there must be more updated drone right now. Much smaller, much more powerful and I think this is what they have right now, that's why they allowed the drone in the public. It's easy to imagine that they have an insect-sized drone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think the market for camera phone will continue to grow bigger in the future. Phone cameras will eventually replace point and shoot cameras. Phone cameras will also make the professional photographers difficult to earn a living, whereas ordinary people will begin to explore photography. The first camera phone I used had a VGA camera, my current phone has 8 MP camera.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
Eventually, we won't need to buy separate cameras because the camera on our phones will be great. I know that some people buy cameras to be able to zoom in on objects like the moon and not lose any quality. Maybe one day, you will be able to do that with our smartphones without the need for special lens.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
I long for the day when one can buy such a phone. It is easy to be able to do all the things with just one smartphone.

I always find it easy to work with my smartphone incorporating all digital tasks. I can't imagine what more can be enhanced.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it will just evolve significantly by demand and competition. Technology is so fast nowadays that camera technology on phones is easily replaced for a short time. Now we have face recognition and auto A.I rendition , i guess the next thing would be infrared technology.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Infrared on phone cameras now that would be something to witness. Its not an impossibility however with the current competition rate in mobile technologies as you said.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I think phone cameras will be more powerful and will have better zooming capabilities in the future. There's a high possibility that phone cameras would make digital cameras obsolete.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
The features will always be where the major differences will lie. I however still do have some doubts about phones totally alienating digital cameras. It would be fun to have a phone with all the such capabilities.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
Yes that's also my thought and more. Camera capabilities on phones has really conquered photography in many ways, it's not because they are more cheaper than DSLR but because they allow a photographer with only basic knowledge. Although camera phone's needs a lot of improvements to surpass DSLR quality, it's the ability of the phone camera to make people photographers with just using imagery rendition and A.I application makes it more in demand making it hard for DSLR in terms of sales and sustainability.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
I think that smartphones have already phased out the entry level point and shoot cameras. The future will go in that direction. Consumers are more inclined to have convenience rather than image quality. This is because almost everyone now take photos for the sake of posting it for social media. I think that smartphones will have a true aperture lens integrated into the camera like Samsung's implementation in their recent smartphones. Image processing will also improve as A.I. in phones get more intelligent as the technology develops.

However, I don't think smartphone cameras will ever replace DSLRs or Mirrorless cameras even in the near future.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
This is a move by phone manufacturers trying to make mobile devices look extremely nice with what we have with the new specs that we see on every new smartphone that is made. I am of the opinion that it is going to reach a time when mobile phones will come with self help on how to snap pictures with those devices.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Marako0406
I believe AI for camera is the best yet our technology has reached so far and will be able to explore more on the betterment of AI capabilities on most things we do everyday. Mobile cameras is advancing and maybe able to replace the physical photography cameras we use nowadays. Maybe in the future there will be more holograms right in our hands for just using a mobile device like the ones in the science fiction films.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
I hope that phone manufacturers can take this up and play around with the idea to come up with gt cameras that can support holograms. It is a futuristic idea.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think phone camera will keep on improving when it comes to the pixels and quality of photos produced. Apart from that, effects and more application will be developed to help people with less photography skills achieve photos shot like a pro.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Chinet23
Definitely there will be a lot of innovations. It's just hard to tell what they would be right now because so far, some of the phone cameras are already impressive. The demand will still continue as you can see from the trend the growing obsession of taking photos for people to create their niche in social media.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

If there is anything that is evolving just as you observe it is the phone. It has undergone a great metamorphosis and it is still in the process of evolution.

In the near future the phone will be all that we shall need. It will maybe fitted with drugs if one is sick and food to enjoy when you have your phone. It is not a mere dream.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I do agree with you, if you've seen Star Trek movies there's this device use by Bones and Spock which looks like a smartphone but can do a lot more things like scan the body for any kind of sickness and synthesize cures for it. I think in the future smartphones would have a lot of uses including medical and defense.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you wholly. Phones are becoming a great revolution on earth. Am looking forward to just using my phone to diagnose diseases.

The other thing is that it is growing more complicated but cheaper. We get more for very little. Am expecting them to start being measured on a scale like beans in the market. Do you agree?

Technology are upgrading every. Specially phone cameras. Phone Cameras are of the best feature of smart phones and nowadays it's on par with the cameras use by the photographers. Who know's if what will be the improvement after 5 years but I'm sure it will be a lot better from the cameras today.

I don't know about the future of phone cameras. But I have seen some photographs taken with a phone camera and it looks like there are many photographers who have a future using a phone camera. The first time I saw a nature photograph and the person mentioned that the picture had been taken with his phone ... I was blown away!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it is doable for the future phone to have an application that can scan or make an X-ray to our bodies. To make our phone detect if their are something wrong with us. A very helpful thing.

Over the years, the development of cellphone camera is really remarkable. My years of existence is my advantage because I have witness it first hand the evolution of cellphone cameras. Today, I am amazed that there are cellphone cameras that has nearly the same as the specs of a DSLR. I believe that it has a very high potential. Technology keeps on progressing, I believe that it has more to offer. Higher pixel, lower apperture, faster response to changing brightness and many more.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I agree. We keep seeing new specs on a yearly basis. Sometimes even less than that. So I'm sure that phones will eventually have as much pixels as professional cameras. However, the price will also increase if that happens.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeeah the winners in future will be the ones who will be able to create much better cameras and devices which are advanced in the manner that anyone who purchases really appreciates the value for money that they get. the better it is the costlier it will then have to cost.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Indeed, Many people nowadays prefer not to hire a skilled photographer on many occasions because they have an high specs of smartphones. Because the camera of smartphones become more powerful over the years and we never know what smartphone will become after 10-20 years. But many cameras have more features compare to the cameras of smartphones they only use a smartphones to be practical/saving some money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you that the features in some cameras might be more than those for smartphones. However when you weigh the options of having a simgle device that can assist you to accomplish almost anything it is always better than having multiple devices some of which might be too heavy. This is of course unless your job is being a professional photographer who must always be required to use the best devices in the market.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I believe that cameras in the future will keep on evolving because of the rapid advancement in technology. Many smartphones nowadays are competing with each other that is why smartphones are getting better and better which makes it more interesting to have. I see that many companies are doing great in terms of making great cameras, maybe it is mainly because of the intense competition in the market which makes it advantageous to consumers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Of course its always an added advantage. I always wait for new phones to be released so that I can compare the specifications with the models I am used to.
I also tend to prefer going for an upgraded version whenever I need to purchase a phoneinstead of buying one similar to the older model I am disposing of.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes I am also doing that way because upgraded version of new phones are really an edge over the other. I always make a comparison whenever there are latest updates of mobile phone in the market. Year after year, camera phones are getting better and better. Most smartphone companies improve their cameras whenever they release a new model or unit of smartphones. I think that camera phones in the future are more advanced and maybe as good as the quality of digital or DSLR cameras as well. I also think that more people can afford to have professional looking photos just by using new high tech camera phones. It has a lot of advantages because it is the most convenient medium in capturing photos. People can use only one device for capturing photos, make and receive calls and texts and many more by just using one device which is a smartphone.

I think companies now are aiming to develop more of the specifications of a phone especially the camera. It is great to see how our cameras have developed. I think 5 years from now, cameras on phone have a larger number of megapixels. That even when you capture a certain plain 1km away, when you zoom it in you can still see the stones around. Then maybe someday, DSLR cameras will slowly be depreciated. I also believe that someday, phone cameras will be similar to the capacities of a DSLR camera.

I believe that as time goes by, people can invent a mobile phone that is no need of supervision since it can talk and do all its function without the need of the owner to click on the mobile phone. The owner will just relay to the phone on what would be his activity that he wants to do and automatically the mobile phone would do it's order. It is really similar to a robot which performs all of his assigned task for the day.

In my opinion, nothing beats DSLR when it comes to photography. It is true that smartphones have evolved drastically and the pictures that it could produce are truly jaw-dropping. Nevertheless, the quality of DSLR's photos is more professional. A lot of industries such as fashion, modelling, film, and etc. still prefer using this gadget instead of smartphones. Professional cameras meet their tastes and standards. Phone cameras are more on personal use and perfect to capture all special memories that would bring joy to everyone.

The future of phone cameras is still a mystery to all of us. However, with our fast-pacing technology, I think it won't be impossible to create an international quality movie by using cellphone only. We might be also surprised that phone cameras would replace professional cameras someday. We could never tell, but, one thing is for sure, the price for it would be so expensive.

The future is looking good because most phone manufacturers are putting more effort into designing new phone cameras. Aside from bumping the other hardware specs of phones like the CPU, RAM, etc., they are noticeably giving more attention to their cameras. I hope that in the near future there won't be any need for DSLRs because smartphones are easier to bring along during travels and quick snaps of things you see every day.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

we may have a long way to go before phone cameras outcompete digital ones completely. However, with innovation, there certainly can never be limits and I also believe that the era is coming. All we can do is hope that it will be during our lifetime on this planet.

I imagine future cameras will reach or exceed the resolution of a human eye. Every month or year, camera's resolution is always getting better and better. There are cameras right now that you can zoom in a lot that you can still see clearly an ant like object. Reputable company's or scientist's goal might integrate stand alone cameras on a smart phone and all of its features. I believe resolution of a human eye will be surpassed in future technologies.

High end phone brand like Apple or Samsung could have 20x optical zoom but still captures good images. Facial tracking or like geo-tagging in phone could also be present to know who is that unknown someone when taking pictures. Taking clear pictures at night could also be a great features for a phone camera. It would be great to have these camera features on a phone for the next generation smartphones.

This is quite common with numerous phones. In fact for facial tracking you can find such features in phones like htc, oppo, xiaomi and the rest of android generations. However I believe that more innovations are yet to come.

The trend with smartphones today are bezel-less displays, or at least have the least bezel as much as possible. For example, the iPhone X. However, one drawback of it is the notch on top of the screen. I have seen concept phones, not sure if it is available on the market today which places the front camera into the body of the phone (it slides in and out), set on top to remove the issue about the notch.

Plus, there are so many apps that we can choose from now a days for free. Like we can have a different, nice and satisfying shot just by using our smartphone camera. Then we can do some editing anytime we want just to get the right angle we are looking for.

I guess it may have a far view of the photos like you can take a good picture from far away.

This one can be awesome. When you are at one point but still able to take pictures that are very far and even manipulate the backgrounds in any manner that you feel like. the zoom option should be made better to produce clearer pictures.

I guess the future of phone cameras is that you can capture an object even on a very far away position because the mega pixels will get higher each year.

Zooming potential is definitely something which keeps getting bettered with each new phone version. Also the aspects of night modes and auto focus.

I tend to buy my phone for the quality of the camera as much as anything else, I also keep old phones where the picture quality of the camera has satisfied me. As time goes on, I am sure things can only improve as so many are not using their phones in ways we never thought possible. Even a Facebook live or Youtube video of passable, if not professional standard is possible at present. Each model seems to improve, probably because everyone is so addicted to social media.

Over the years, phone cameras have upgraded in the best way possible. I can't wait for the new upgrades that it can have in the future. Maybe, one day, we'll get to take photos and view it in 3D on our phones. Given the tight competition smart phone companies are in nowth, I am sure, at least one can do what I am hoping for.

I think that Smartphones would soon be a wearable gadget and its cameras might evolved to become a gear that can be attached to glasses.

We can't really predict the future but what I want for future smartphone cameras will be is that they will be professionally good for photography like DSLR cameras. It can be user friendly and use it for photoshoot, even if we don't have the skills like photographer have. It's nice to have built in high quality zooming lenses. And I'm hoping for the next 5-10 years that phone cameras will be cheaper.

The trend I'm seeing lately is people using lens attachments which fit to their smartphones to provide even more flexibility for taking high-quality shots.

You're right, years ago somebody would have laughed if you seriously thought about taking a good photo with your phone, just like how even before that people scoffed at digital cameras when they were only 4 megapixels.

Things are changing so quickly, but it seems crystal clear to me that smartphone cameras will only get better and better as they are, thereby (maybe) rendering obsolete the traditional camera apparatus.

As technology improves, there is a great potential that phone cameras may be able to obtain the same features of a mirrorless camera or even a DSLR in the future. Since smartphones that are considered to be with good cameras today are pricy, it is likely to become an affordable phone years from now.

Honestly, it's hard to imagine. Our technology is improving exponentially, and innovations after innovations are being made faster than the blink of an eye. If I were to venture a guess, though, I would say higher and higher megapixels, 4D shots, holograms, adjustable flash and shutter speed.

There's only so much you can do with cameras to be honest. I imagine someone might try to invent a phone camera that can take pictures from an extremely long distance - but have the objects appear as if they're right in front of you. Like a 'long distance shot but close up capture' kind of thing.

The future for me is the concept of a smartphone without buttons that focuses on a retractable system for the front camera. The iPhone X has achieved a camera with an aperture of ƒ / 2,2, automatic HDR, automatic image stabilization, Live Photos and exposure control in the upper front of the screen.

However, the creativity of the designers has led to the alternative of the retractable camera. Presented by the Chinese company BBK, the Vivo APEX cell phone has implemented a camera that is always hidden under the phone case, but appears when we need it, in the style of flash in conventional cameras.

Hello!
I must add that the future is very bright, as the digital technology is constantly developing in our world. I might even say it's the only thing ever getting developed in our time. More than medicine and etc.

The beauty with tech is that it cuts across all sectors. There really is no boundary to the limits that it has since it is applicable in all forms of economy, I industry, etc.

I believe that the price of phone cameras would become cheaper in the future because of so many companies that are making it especially in the android type of mobile phones. There will be having a tough competition in this kind of industry since manufacturers will lower their price so that they can beat the competition which can give more advantages to consumers to have a better phone cameras at a very affordable price.

What is the future of phone cameras: In my imagination they will just continue to increase the megapixel of camera in every camera phone, like what is happening now. The latest camera they launch now has a high megapixel than the old version one.

Crazy one but do you think that one will be able to link their phone camera with several devices or even to the internet and as such control numerous things from their phone. We are only diving deeper into artificial intelligence with time right?
