At a party I had for seniors from an old age home I gifted them with things that a child would normally get. There were puzzles and colouring books. Spending time that involves creativity is not something that only children need to do. Those with time on their hands could go for such activities and enjoy them too.

An adult is a person who is supposed to have an inward clear picture of what he/she is doing. To me adult colouring books is not an ideal target and to the adults.Congrats though if someone is earning selling this in Amazon haha.

The child in an adult comes out when opportunities are provided such as in this case when the adult decides to get busy with colouring books. The fact that there is demand for these books confirms what I have just said.

Purposes of adult coloring book are simple
to spend time doing full activity
to channeling your emotion
to destress yourself
to throw your boredom.
These books are targeted towards the adults who have spare time, want to do some fun activity while sitting in their armchair, These books also try to bring an artist inside the person who is doin this.

I think that child-like activities for adults in our society nowadays just show how everything is crumbling down and people don't want to take any responsibility for themselves. Something like this might seem harmless at first, but all the time off from constructive processes is only detrimental for your personal development.

It is said that people generally return to their childhood state when they grow old, and so they are satisfied with simple pleasures in life, much like a child.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's true. We begin as a child, move towards adulthood and old age. When we are old, we again turn to childhood. In our old age, we behave and think like a child. Children love coloring so will the adults with adult coloring books.

That is such a sweet thing to do. I bet they enjoyed using what you gave them. I recently bought some adult coloring books for an activity at our recollection. My co-leagues got a bit of a challenge finishing it and took them a while just to finish a page. Though it took much of their time, they said that it was enjoyable an very therapeutic.

I totally agree with you that coloring is therapeutic. I have read an article about people who do coloring as a stress reliever. It calms our mind and makes us feel refreshed.

"Spending time that involves creativity is not something that only children need to do."

I 100% agree with this. When I was working on several creative projects involving illustration, I was in charge of doing the coloring while my friend did the outlines. What I was doing was essentially what a child does in a coloring book, except in a more complex manner. I have to say that it was some of the most fun I've ever had working on a creative project. Even when drawing on my own, coloring is my favorite part because once the initial line work and designs are done, I can now shut my brain off and just color freely.

The elderly are like kids and behave so. Before that age then s normal person who is an adult has no use for such toys.

How will you feel if you found your dad with toys and a coloring book? If you find them pulling a toy car at the end of s rope then you will think they have run bersack.

I saw this trend get really big once in the last few years but I don't know if it has died down since I don't hear much about it anymore. I'm sure there are still a lot of adults who are into this as most niches are able to survive now with enough of a cult following or a small audience online. I think it's alright and if you can excel in it then you should definitely get into it and if you have a good product eventually people will respond to it.

I think adult coloring book is getting trendy. I have many friends who have published adult coloring book as well as bought adult coloring books. Those who have used the book say it is a good way to spend your time. I don't have experience of adult coloring book, but I might buy it for my parents. Since coloring is a mental exercise, I guess adult coloring book will keep the mind occupied.

I some design in the net recently and from my point of view it is a kind of activity that has promising results. I do love the intricate designs and I would like to get my hands on one or two of those designs so that I could add my personal touch. I think is becoming a trend since I see a lot of these kind of coloring books in bookstores. Whenever I pass that section where the coloring books are placed, there would be somebody checking it out.

I have seen them before because my aunt buys them and colors them. But it's not something that I would want to do because it involves a ton of time just to color one picture. And I don't have that kind of time to sit there in front of a coloring book and color for hours on end and not to mention that its very tedious work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Haha, that's true. It takes hours to color a single picture because most of them are different patterns and structures. It roughly takes me 3-4 hours of coloring to finish a single picture but I often do it while just watching the TV. I listen to the program and color as well. It's weirdly relaxing.

The coloring books are meant for the people who have nothing to do or have a plenty of free time. LOL.
Well, actually there is also a positive side of using a coloring book. It can substantially reduce your stress and anxiety levels. It makes you feel happy by occupying you in the work.

This is just a way to kill off boredom and we need to allow those to express themselves in such way. I don't think there is any reason we should be worried since those people feel cool with using adult coloring books.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Killing boredom is one benefit of coloring book, however, there are also many other benefits. For instance, an adult coloring book might help people suffering from depression, anxiety and stress. Since you will have to spend a great deal of time coloring the figures, your mind will be occupied for a long time. When the mind is occupied, there is no time to remain depressed.

I actually bought a few of those mandala type of adult coloring books. You know the ones that have all sort of patterns and then you color it freely? I tried it as part of meditation and relaxing and it truly works. It's so amazing being able to fully let go and be creative.

I usually color 2-3 pictures per week and I would highly recommend it to everybody. Just give a try and see for yourself.

However, I have friends who publish adult coloring books as well as purchase adult coloring books for themselves. These books feature diagrams, for instance, a mandala, as well as illustrations of human and animals. Some pictures look easy to color, whereas some pictures are as complicated as a landscape.

I don't know. I mean, I still do word search puzzles or crossword puzzles when I'm traveling but coloring books aren't something I've ever thought about partaking in since I was a kid. If you find through market research that the niche audience for such things is big enough, I guess it wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly. It isn't such a terrible idea. This is the point I've been trying to make all along. It's actually a good niche and I've seen people make good money out of it. So put asides boredom, hubby or just fun, it's probably a source of living for someone.

These days there's money in just about any niche I imagine. But the question becomes, is there enough money in 'this one,' to make it worthwhile to crank out a line of adult coloring books and then market them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
You have a point. There is money to be made on any topic you can imagine. However, how much money you can make or how much effort you need to put to make a certain amount are some of the questions you need to answer. Recently I met a writer who has published over a dozen ebooks on Amazon Kindle. each of her books has over 20 reviews. Looks like she is selling well, however, she says she hardly makes $25 in a month as a royalty from her 12 plus books.

I see a lot of comments talking about this subject as a way of killing time when bored or for people who have little or no engagements.

I'll like to disagree with those remarks above. I read once in an article which states that a majority of seniors in homes especially those with mental conditions who participates in adult colouring show a great amount of improvements with regards to their mental states. Just as colouring helps kids, it also helps seniors in the same manner.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I believe adult coloring books help the senior citizens to improve their mental conditions. However, we also have to agree that adult coloring books are the medium to spend time for those who do not have any substantial thing to do. Spending quality time is very important to the adults who are retired and do not have work. The adult coloring books give them a medium to express their creativity.

I agree that adult coloring books have become more and more popular, and I have been seeing them online and offline always nowadays. It's said it is a therapeutic way to help one releasing stress and feeling more relaxed too. It's nice to look at the transformation from plain to colorful or how you want it to be. Not only the process of coloring is healing, the end result is satisfying too no matter how we make it.

I won't buy a coloring book, as I am not a person who enjoys coloring, I actually prefer doodling as I can do it more freely. Doodling is healing too. Sometimes after I draw something, and I color it myself, and I actually feel better this way.

Well, it's not going to be allowed here in our country as we're very conservative. Many people would protest if that kind of book will be sold. I think it is indeed a good idea as a business as many will patronize it. This can be used to relieve stress, kill time or a past time for some. My idea is it can be sold here online and of course with age restrictions as to who can buy it.

Hahaha... to continue your remarks...It is in fact an upgrade of traditional coloring books, with amazing detail and a different form of difficulty. It is not even near of being malicious in any sense. It is a wholesome and user-friendly way to kill time and be creative as well.

I've seen those and I do like them. In my country we don't have books like that of our own, we just get the ones you can find on Michael's or Barnes and Nobles. Personally, I love the ones with Mandalas, they are meant to help you increase your attention, and to focus on a single task. All of them, come with stress relieving patterns, they are affordable for everybody, and even not so grown ups can handle those. In case anyone here doesn't like them, feel free to give them to me as a donation hahaha.

I'm not a great fan of coloring books but if you do have a market then why not produce and sell it? Right?

But that concept is intetesting, what if you sell a canvass with outlines, to be used by people who want to learn how to paint. Be it watercolor or acrylic. To me that's more appealing and feasible with grown-ups.

Hello! This subject can be considered relative! I see no problem if these books are only for adults. After all, adults know what is the best way for them! But if the books are for children, then I do not support it! Children are still innocent and they don't know what they're doing. So, I think all parents should keep these books away from their children! Best regards!

Coloring books have been made for children for a long time. In fact, as a child, I used numerous coloring books. I never excelled in drawing and coloring, however, drawing and coloring was an important subject in the school.
The adult coloring book has a different purpose. It does not try to teach the adult how to color a book, instead, it tries to make the adults creative and help them manage stress and other mental problems by engaging in the creaative activity.

I've actually heard about this before, and I think it is a pretty good idea, to be quite honest. I paint as a hobby because I find it to be one of the most therapeutic activities I can do. Obviously coming up with ideas and drawing the outlines is the hardest part of drawing, so I think skipping that phase and going straight to coloring can be quite helpful for those who aren't so artistically inclined. I've noticed a lot of "child-like" activities becoming popular among adults, such as coloring and finger painting, because I think that many people have come to realize that we take life far too seriously as adults and are missing our child-like wonder.

I actually have the app Colorfy which is like an adult coloring book for smart devices. I can see their appeal as they are relaxing to do but I personally would not buy coloring books as I've never been a fan of actually shading and coloring in paper. I prefer a more digitalized style and I think it helps more when designing online stuff.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I don't know about the app called colorfy, however, I have tried a lot of similar apps where we can add colors to the pictures. When I was a child, I hated to draw. However, I picked interest in drawing when I was in teens. I had a friend who had taught himself to draw human illustrations, especially women figures and I wanted to learn that. sadly, I never developed skills.

I was really good in copying drawings of other people or illustrations in books when I was a child (and even until now, I think), but I wasnt able to translate that talent into drawing on my own or when drawing real stuff from my surroundings. I also never learned the proper way of coloring, shading and the like, so I think I kind of enjoyed some of the apps that make it easier to enjoy these things even when you are not as talented as real artists.

I wouldn't really consider myself as a full-time artist, but I do enjoy drawing and painting as a leisurely activity. I find that more often than not, getting the outlines done is usually the most difficult part. Putting onto paper what I see in my head isn't always easy, but once the outlines are done, the shading and coloring are the most relaxing part. Sometimes it would be pretty cool to just skip the outlining and jump right to the coloring, especially when I just want to get some practice in shading. Adult coloring books can be a great form of practice for aspiring artists.

I think there's a market for it...coloring is a great way to relax and have fun. When in terms of audience of course adults has a high percentage of market prospects. But of course it all depends on the marketing strategies and product quality. They can use the "fun" , "relaxing" , "productive" words on their product advertising. This way adults can get more enticed on the product.

Buying an adult coloring book has been a trend for a while in my country. I enjoy using adult coloring book whenever I want a quiet time and feel like being creative without putting too much effort. I guess it helps me relax because it is something you can do without the need to rush and finish. Also there is no restriction on how you want to color it. I sometimes find myself doing my own adult coloring book by doodling and making a mandala. I used to bring an adult coloring book when I am on graveyard duty in a call center. If there were no calls, I would color them to keep myself awake. My officemates will also borrow and color a page then sign it. It became a remembrance to me of their artwork.

I guess adult coloring books also remind us of our childhood days, when things are not yet complicated, and this is what makes coloring more relaxing and stress-relieving. It is my first time hearing about adult coloring book. I think it was totally fine. I mean, kids are not the only ones who likes to color and be artistic. And as an adult I admit that I miss the times when I was just a kid and do my coloring book. It would be awesome if I can get one. I am not that artistic but I do like to color. I can do it during my free time or I can do it when I am bored to or maybe it can be an outlet whenever I feel stressed. Doing activities like coloring a coloring book is a good way to relieve stress because you can divert your attention and you can relax and think that you can go back to your childhood. It can be entertaining and who knows, maybe at my age I can still learn how to be more artistic.

I love coloring books since I was a kid. I used to have lots of them. Now that I'm an adult, I still love them. I used to download coloring apps on my phone as well just to have something to spend my spare time or to relax. What I don't like about those apps that I downloaded are they only have limited picures for you to play with and have to download or purchase it. I don't always go online those days that's why I stopped using those apps. Until when I went to a bookstore, I found out that there are coloring books for adults too. I was really curious so I bought one. I really had fun coloring each page. It helped me feel relaxed by just seeing those vibrabt colors and also gave me the satisfaction of finishing one page. Now, I'm almost finished the entire book and I sometimes do coloring with my little sister too. It's really a fun way to spend your vacant time with it.

It's a form or relaxation and coloring has proven to be very therapeutic for many adults. Art is therapeutic and is used in mental health institutions. Coloring is a form of art.

Another example. Some grandparents color a certain picture, create a beautiful work of art and give it to their grandchildren as a keepsake.

Adult coloring is not nonsense. It has value-add in many ways.

I won't buy such a childish thing and also there are many alternatives available so I won't waste my money into that kind of book even if I want to. There are more things that is much more needed than that and those things are the one that we need to invest our money because we can benefit into it. Like for example: appliances, gadget, clothes those things are more useful than a adult coloring book. The internet is a vast place to be so I can easily find or make my own coloring book if I wanted to.

I believe that this good. Adult coloring books would make the adults feel young. In a way be a form of learning. It could also be a form of recreation or relaxation. I think you feel good in doing this.

Adults sometimes needs to have activities like this. It can unwind themselves through coloring books. They can do it to encourage their young children to color books. They can demonstrate to them how to color books.

I actually saw these kind of colouring book to a book store and they are variety to choose from. Some are thin books and thick one then you have to buy the right colouring pencils so it will fit on the picture line designs. I used to have plenty of colouring books when I was a kid and they are like thick books from my grandma because she wants me not to get bored haha. So I guess I'm done already with adult colouring books for now.

The adult coloring books are for those people who do not have anything to do and want to pass time doing something creative. It can be a wonderful way to spend time if you do not have anything substantial to do. using coloring book is just like playing video games to kill time. Even if you are not interested in art, adult coloring book can hook you up if you begin to use it.

I profit by using Adult Coloring book, it helped me when I am stress out in work and ofcourse from pressure and anxiety. I moved from Coloring books into Coloring applications as I observed it to be significantly more advantageous. Work can get very distressing on occasion, at whatever point I'm stuck in office with overpowering remaining burdens that could give me headaches that would truly keep going for a considerable length of time, I turn myself towards shading.

Adult colouring book is an avenue for adults to stay calm and focused. It is very beneficial and satisfying when we manage to complete a usually complex colouring task. When one is anxious and stressed, colouring is one of the ways to destress and cool down our thinking.

Great point that one should consider. When one is anxious and stressed, colouring is one of the ways to de-stress and cool down our thinking.

I agree with you. I have been doing this. Also, you can make colouring a hobby to pass time or share with the young ones around you.

I've bought one last year and until now I haven't finished it yet. It was a wonderful coloring book that is meant for adult. It is also challenging and really nice. I wish I have more time to do it though.

I actually bought one for myself. I was encouraged by the reason that it's an art therapy to relieve stress. I love art, there are times that I run out of inspiration to draw but still wants to color. It's a beautiful mandala style adult coloring book, it's very challenging to color because of it's tiny details. You also have to think of the color combination to use to have a beautiful outcome. It's nice but I don't think it has a de-stressing power to me because 'til now I'm having problem on how to finished the whole book, I'm almost halfway though.

I remember this was all the rave some years ago, maybe in 2015 or 2016. They got sold out and were bestseller books. Couldn't buy one at the time because they were sold out, but really they were too expensive for me. We got them as gifts, finally I have one, and now my daughters are using them. But yes, they are very good stress-relievers and they can get you relaxed and centered. I had to buy a nice set of coloring pencils to use on the books.

Honestly, I have heard about an adult coloring book for the first time and I am not very excited about the idea of having an adult coloring book. Well, small children would definitely find it interesting to color the books meant for children but once they are able to draw there own pictures freehand and color them, they also eventually lose their interest in these coloring books. I don't see the point why adults would be interested in using adult coloring books. But if there is a demand for such a product then people should definitely create these books to cater to the needs of these section of customers.

I tried to download some app for adult coloring book. It was a good stress reliever to me as an adult and I do a lot of work. It also helps me to have a creative mind and It was just so relieving after you see your finish product. It doesn't matter if you if it was a childish thing to do as long as you feel comfortable with it.

I downloaded an "adult coloring book" app and it's great for like break times at work or at school or when I'm bored or when I'm avoiding social media. I like how it reminds me of the old days but I probably won't buy a physical one although the app doesn't capture the actual "coloring experience" but that's what tech do, replacing everything.
