Printing - The Next Big Industrial Revolution?

Perhaps one of the most significant inventions of the first industrial revolution that we know and have learnt of is the printer, which is the smaller version of the larger printing press. The revolution that is being talked about in this respect is one of a more sophisticated and technological one. Here instead of people going places to buying things that they need, they will just be making them on their printers. Here's listing what you need to know to determine the perfect printing machine for you. The Type: The most important aspect to keep in mind before making the decision as to which printer you want to purchase, depends on your need. If what you want are quick prints any time, what you should be looking forward to is a laser printer. Then again, for sure black and white only prints, laser printers are yet again the ones to go after. Whether a scanner is of need to you, whether Wi-Fi abilities are required, and all these factors should be considered carefully before rounding up on a printer. The Economic Constraints: This is what will determine what section or category of printers you will be going for. If you have a rather big budget and are willing to shell out the big bucks, you might as well get a premium device with all in one functionalities and other improvements and enhancements accompanying it. But it probably would not be the case, and so only the really important features need to be pursued. The Actual Purpose: You are probably buying the printer for a reason - it's not just a whim. So your main aim needs to be satisfied. Multifunction printers are the best for you if it's a home business you want it for. For daily and mainly black and white prints, you would probably want to suck with the fast laser printers. For occasional documents and pictures, an inkjet or budget laser printer would be fine. The Technicalities: Last but not the least you need to consider the resolution, speed, cost of operation, compatible printer cartridge and so on for the most efficient performance. Keeping in mind the dpi, the printout volume, the printout size, photo or print quality, image processing power, spare parts and printer cartridge availability, the warranty, customer support quality etc, you must surely have narrowed down the potential list for suitable printers for you, considering your needs and purpose for the optimal experience.

Printing is a marketable practice too. Actually with journalism and freelancing one has to have an own printer.

The suggestions you have given are handy and good. I need to buy one for my office.

Pinter is a very useful machine. And most household have their own printer specially those who have their own computers. Printers are very handy for students because they are given assignments every and going out in a printer shop would sometimes a hassle specially if you only notice your mistake when you already printed your work.

Do not forget businesses too whether they are small or large they need to print out various kinds of documents for customers or interstaff communication.

I agree with you. One of the business that is marketable in communities like mine is connected with printing jobs. Tarpaulins, document printing, photos, and many others are very much in demand. I guess the printing quality plays a big role in businesses like that. We need to look for good quality printing with less cost.

This is really informative. I never really bother to understand the differences of each printers. As long as it has the qualities that I'm looking for a printer, I usually buy it. But because of what you have mentioned above, I will be making a wiser decision on my next printer.

That's nice. I used to read about different printer types. But eventually I found that as long as they served their purpose, I'm fine with it. I'm even astounded by the fact that we have 3D printers.

I was able to see the evolution of printing. I am not that too old to see "ancient" printing but I was able to see the dot matrix printing. I can say that printing has gone a long way. The technology is simply amazing. Nowadays, printing huge pictures is now possible. Unlike years ago that it is not possible. Also I must commend how ink also improved as the years go by. Printing has a very good marketing potential.

I would like to know how they are planning on improving these technologies. Printing technologies have come a long way already and there's still no hint of it slowing down. I'm sure there are more amazing innovations in printing in the near future.

Great information about printers. I did not know about the type of printers but you made it so clear. Nowadays, printers are very helpful whether you are a student, teacher, or a business owner. I know that many of the documents we deal with are digital, but we need to admit that we still need hard copies. I am glad that printers evolve in the best possible way.

Yeah, the writer took out time to explain in details, the type of printers that we have and that is one way that you are going to measure up better as far as getting to buy a nice printer is concerned. We can't just overlook the good work of printers in the world today as well.

I think printing will never be out of the trend because we need printed documents in some of our works. Also, printing is not only via paper outputs but we also print on clothes, mugs, bags, and a lot more stuffs. And with these modern and high-end technologies that we have nowadays, I can clearly see that printing will be more in demand in the future and also maybe the next big industrial revolution.

I believe that printing will never be out of trend because printing is very versatile and useful at the same time. I dont think that books will be obsolete. Maybe there will be digital versions but there will always be physical version of information. Although I would wish that production of paper will be reduced to protect nature. But printing is not used for books alone. I can see the trend of merch among celebrities and I must commend the creativity they invest on it. Print is that thing that makes it posible for fans to purchase merch from their idols.

I'd like to agree with you too on your last two sentences which you discussed about the relevance of printing in that industry. Honestly, I'm excited to see what other improvement or innovations for it as well.

Different types of printers have each advantages. in choosing the right type of printer suitable for your needs. We must consider their advantage and disadvantages. For example, the two common type of printer available in the market today are inkjet and laser printers. A laser printer could print out pages more quickly and could be cost efficient over time. Generally, a laser printer operates more quietly and has best quality text that it can produce. An Inkjet printer on the other hand, could provide versatility, save some spaces for it is much smaller and could print a larger paper sizes.

I do not have a printer, when ever I need to print something I always go to desktop publishing house. However, I have some experience with buying a printer. When I was working in an organization, I was assigned with buying a printer. I bought canon printer that also had xerox and fax capabilities.

Technology improvements in the printing industry have made it possible to print documents, banner, flyers, pictures, etc very easy unlike how hard it was in the crude days of Gunterberg printing press. There are so many business centers that can offer such services for few dollars.

I actually considered setting up a printing press when I was still out from the university as a graduate of mass communication and a journalist but it required a huge capital to start a business of such magnitude. Now, a huge part of the printing industry is going digital. It's not the old printing press isn't still in business but their work rate have reduced drastically.

My father owned a printing press a long time ago. He not only serviced printing services to the clients but also published his own newspaper. We were kids and father could not manage everything by himself therefore, he hired a partner for the printing press. sadly, the partner cheated on him. The printing business, the press as well as the newspaper were shut down because of heavy loss.

Times have changed. These days people prefer digital communication and digital reading materials. Printing business is almost going obsolete. Maybe we should look into different avenue, such as digital printing or 3D printing.

I don't think printing is a viable business going forward. Hasn't the paper and ink companies suffered in the last decade due to the rise of e-books and technology? I'm not saying that printing has become obsolete but soon it will though. Think of it this way. How many mails have you received compared to emails in the last 60 days? I bet you you've received more e-mails than mails.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You actually have a point there. Everything is going digital nowadays. Magazines and news can now be read online. Even companies are promoting paperless transactions. We can say that printing will always be there but it will not be as big as it was before.

I also believe that printing will not be obsolete anytime soon, however, printing industry is suffering heavily during to the rise of digital media. These days from paper notes to the reading materials, everything is being replaced by digital technology. I started writing by writing on a note pad, however, I have not used a note pad since 5 or 6 years. I used to send a lot of letters as a kid, however, these days I text or write emails. People are no longer using printing for every day needs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Try looking at the bigger picture. Printing is not just limited to books and print ads. The thread was about Industrial revolution. There are things that digital media cannot replace. The biggest example for that is labels. In an industrial sense, labeling is not just limited to stickers and prints. How about the lot numbers or batch numbers for the production of many things. How about the labels for electronic devices? How about the printed labels within the parts of an electronic device? Those are just some of the example digital media cannot replace. One good but simplier example are tshirt designs. That is printing too. Do you think digital prints will be practical for clothing?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
It's not going anytime soon but it's getting there. Digital is just that convenient and accessible compared to print. The fact that most people go most days without using a pen and paper is a result of this. That's why it's not wise to go long term in a photocopying business right now because of this.

The biggest revolution that printing has created is in the world of newspaper and books. However, since newspapers and books have gone digital, print newspaper and book business is going down. However, printing is doing well in other areas for instance billboards, banner ads, posters etc. In the advertising industry, printing is still strong.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
Yeah printing is mostly used in advertisement now. But in the 1st world countries for example, they are opting for the big digital screen that you can see in Time Square in place of billboards. I guess this saves them money in a way. They won't have to pay for a giant printing of their ad and the man power to replace the billboards.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

In our home country, because of the cost involved, digital billboards are still not very popular. The billboards in our home country are the vinyl prints. Vinyl printing is a very popular business here. Newspaper and books business might have gone obsolete, however, printing continues to make money in other areas such as label printing, package material printing, advertising banner printing etc.

Printing is not just limited to books and mails. Printing has a potential in business of you will look at a larger picture. Printing will never be SOON obsolete because there is a high demand for other things aside from books. Take for instance labeling. Labeling is an integral part of many things. Look around you, almost everything has labels. For example, expiration dates, names of medicine. You wont risk drinking pills from an unlabeled container right? Will you risk opening and consuming food that is coming from an unlabeled can? These are just some of the things digital things cannot replace.

I guess for some places printing still on going specially to students that need to submit their term papers, projects and I believe they stay opened around like 10pm just to let all students finished their home works. Yeah though to some that can afford to buy printer, they really don't need anymore the internet cafes to do printings at all, I just heard and read about this new gadget that you just need to connect it to your laptop or smartphone then it will print it for you right away. Which its really cool and handy.

I also believe that printers are still in demand in the future. Newspapers, advertising publications, and mailshots need printers. Although we can receive news online, a lot of people still enjoy reading a newspaper. And when it comes to selling some beauty products, some business owners need to produce a catalog or brochure to introduce their products and in this case, a printer is a must.

There are lots of small businesses here that offer printing services for a very cheap price. Most are using continuous ink type for their printers. This type of ink may be very cost effective for them to offer services at a cheap price. They are mostly stationed near the gates of our university because students come through there.

Truly printing could be a profitable business. You have to consider the printer that best suit your business plan. It will be the best to set up a printing business near a school or university since students really need a source of printing their papers. Printing tarpaulin or banners could also be a good business too. Both requires different kinds of computer, that's why you should think first what printing business you would like to set up.

The biggest thing I hear in the media lately about printing is the evolution of 3D printing. I've even heard about things like 3D guns being able to be printed - it's crazy when you think about it. What I'm excited about is the development of cheap 3D printers. It's the next evolution of printers. Right now I'm using an ordinary Epson Ink Jet and a Brother Scanner / Printer which are both modified with a 500ml individual continuous Ink supply. It's very cheap to use and I'm just waiting for the release of a cheap 3D Printer because models right now in the market are too expensive and is not cost efficient enough.

Right now printers are becoming more affordable. Also there's a lot of cheaper and compatible ink cartridges in the market. There's also a lot of continuous ink supply systems being sold for different printers making printing cost very low and affordable.

Printing is still a pretty huge industry these days. When I was still in college, we had to go to a printing center to get all of our projects printed out. Needless to say, the experiences most students had there were a bit, shall we say, lackluster. The employees never really knew what they were doing and the prices were through the rough.

So, being fed up with the poor service, I decided to buy my own printer capable of printing large posters in high quality, which were required for our school projects. I ended up charging some of my peers cheaper prices than the printing studios, and not to mention I actually knew what I was doing, so I ended up taking a lot of business from those incompetent studios.

Capitalism at its finest.

What a genius idea! Back when I was at college, printing was super expensive too...especially on a college student budget when you're expected to be printing out readings and a whole host of other assignments. Love that you thought outside the box and did something to make it easier on your peers and help yourself bring in a little cash, too!

Thanks for the compliment! I guess that’s just what happens when you grow up in a capitalist environment; you learn to compete and do things better than your competitors, haha.

It wouldn’t have been that way if the printing departments at these office supply stores weren’t so incompetent. The people they had working at the printing section didn’t really have any experience with graphic design, so they’d get confused with any format that wasn’t JPEG and the standard Letter paper size.

The worst part was that they wouldn’t just let me get behind the computer and do their job for them, so I had to approach things from a different angle.

In my opinion printing cost is becoming lower and more affordable nowadays. That's why more people are buying personal and business printers. Well that's bad new to printing companies and those with printing related services because people are now opting to just buy printers to print their needed materials. It's quicker and cheaper.

Our household have three students and I can say that having a printer at home really helps a lot. Back where printer is not really an option for students like me, we used to cut out pictures for our projects and is typewritten. Today, everything regarding to paper works are all to be printed which is hassle-free. It was also a very big help to have your own printer when printing your thesis manuscript as it will so very costly when you will print it in some computer shop.

I am not so sure if the printing industry is the next biggest revolution. But I agree that there is still a market for printing services. We are currently in the digital era and somehow, printing services are slowly declining. I am not saying the printing services will be eliminated but the use of the printing media will somehow declining.

I think if we have a lot of students in our family then it might be better to just buy our own printer so that we can minimize the possible expense for printing some documents to some printing establishments. We can also make an extra income from it especially if we are in a remote location where having a printer is very impossible. Then that would come here the opportunity to earn at the same time fulfilling your daily needs.

That's true - I know when I was at university I had to spend so much on printing, that realistically I should have just bought my own printer. There's definitely advantages to buying your own if many people would be using it, or if you had one big enough for professional purposes.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes that is right, we can really minimize our expenses in printing some documents that we need if we have our own printer. I was not only lucky before when I was still studying because I cannot afford to buy my own laptop and a printer so that I will not anymore make a lot of expense from it since we have no money during that time. I was only able to buy those things after I graduated and have my own job. It was really sad that I cannot have those equipment during those times that I badly need them.

I have to agree with you. Though it may seem to you that printers are expensive, it would be more expensive if you spend your money everyday going to printing shops when you can print your materials on your own. That's true! Printing is I think one of the biggest marketable business especially when you are near in schools and universities. What I have observed is that when I was in college, computer shop with printing shops is very demand in schools and universities. This is very likely become successful since a lot of students and teachers need to print their projects. Sometimes they use computer for research or play games after school. This business is unlikely to fail if they fall in the right place with its target market I think.

I seem to have had so many printers and never yet found one satisfactory. When I look at them they just go wrong on me. It is so nice to have all the relevant information in one place. I agree. 3-D printing is an element manufacturing manner consisting of the machine and the material. Any improvement to the machine velocity will imply that any product wants to make with this system will be quicker to supply. Any accuracy of development will make some thing made on this machine extra accurate. Any discount of material price will make anything that is able to being made by this machine cheaper. Any improvement in material power will make something made with that system stronger and so on.
