Graphic design is as much of an art as music, painting, drawing, or sculpting. How do you get your ideas flowing when you need to pitch a project to a client?
I come up with ideas of earning money online, because it's a lot easier to access, and you don't need to leave your place just to earn some money.
I agree with you, that's really how I feel because i don't want to go outside most of the time.
Yes, if you will go out at night and make your mind so peaceful, you will have a better idea about what is happening.
I agree with you. A peaceful walk would help clearing your mind. It really open your mibd for new ideas.
I can relate with this when it comes to creativity getting out and moving around the neighborhood can really be inspiring. One can get an idea from the environment.
I know what you mean. It's so much more convenient to do stuff online. As long as you know what you're doing, you can make a decent living out of it. Simply put in the time and effort. You'll go far in life.
True. It is easier and more convenient to have a job online. You can make it anywhere and anytime you want. You can also have a full-time job while doing online jobs. As what @Steve5 said as long as you know what you are doing and you are good at it, then you'll make a decent income out of it.
That's the reason why many like it. It's something we can do at the convenience of our homes. Definitely something office workers can accomplish for additional income.
Yes. I am doing online jobs and also a regular office job. It is tiring and time consuming. Having both really is hard work but it means more income to help my family. I love both jobs and I learn a lot too.
I think thats right. As long as you know what you do and putbso much effort. I think you should do well.
Yes, so true. It's more convenient to stay at home most especially now a days, we don't know how harmful outside is so for me it's better to be at home. It also saves time and money since you have to pay for some ride and food.
That's right. The ride fare can get pretty expensive for most workers. I'm not sure about dangerous. But it does help you avoid unnecessary inconveniences you might stumble upon outside. You'll be working safely within your area.
Well in our area there some bad guys roaming around most especially at night. This place is a semi urban and semi rural. I have heard a lot of news near in our place about rape and holdup. Paying an expensive ride is also one of those things.
Sometimes money can be a source of motivation. Whenever I need money, I become overly motivated to find ways and ideas to make or earn money.
That's funny. I think all of us are motivated by it. I mean, who wouldn't want to earn from doing something we love? I'm glad that there are many opportunities right now.
Exactly. Money is a good source of motivation. The more money you earn from it. The more motivation you'll have to earn more.
Yea,I laugh at people that says money doesn't inspire them when our purchasing power comes from money. Money has made one have a perfect idea of how to get things done excellently.
That's the best part of working online. You don't have to leave the house in order to work. Also, you don't have to deal with the traffic and high fare prices as you will just need to stay at home to work.
That's what I also like about online work. You have the time to focus on your family and other necessary errands while at home. That's because you're not stuck in the office the whole day.
Absolutely. I am a working student and I love working online as I can work in my own schedule. Also, I can still do household chores and still be able to earn money online.
Ideas just flow in and out. It is just like a fresh lake. Water flows in and out leaving the lake fresh. Ideas will come just like that.
Me too. So many people have proven you can earn a decent living online. But they say it's not easy. You also have to put in the necessary work.
You can try to go online as my friend @jayjaydimson has indicated above and look for some of the most searched content and work around that. You can never lack ideas in such a manner by using keywords such as design and logos etc.m
I agree with you, there are a lot of ideas online. But, sometimes you need to look around you to generate original ideas.
If especially you are trying to solve problems that are common within your neighborhood then it is always important to focus on the surroundings and other areas that have had similar problems.
It's probably the first step. The most common searched content gives us something to work on. Much of our ideas can come from the latest trends on social media. That way we gain organic traffic from people's interest on the latest things.
Thank you for giving me some options, I will keep that in mind dude, @Youngshark happy posting.
Happy posting as well my friend and feel free to offer some of your excellent ideas as well. We are here to better one another.
Intensive research too can definitely bring some new ideas to bare. Getting new ideas can come from different researches. It just take a focused mind to bring out the best idea.
I know that my opinion is somehow psychological or personal rather than objective but for me doing something you like while thinking will make the ideas flow a lot more easier. For example, I like to listen to music before drawing something which makes me inspired, relaxed or motivated. This works for me because the outcome is much more better than what I expect it to be. Another way is to look for samples of an artwork which is very accessible in the internet and get an idea or be inspired of how this artworks are beautifully done. That's how it works perfectly for me.
I agree with you. I also think that if you force yourself to come up with ideas by just sitting and staring t your pen and paper, nothing good would come out. Let it flow naturally.
Ideas should be natural if you want them to be good. When you force things they rarely come out as they should but when you are doing other things and a hunch comes to you then it is always perfect.
I agree with you, there were times where I read first before writing my own.
Reading is always an awesome way of filling the head with information. You can never run out of ideas if you are an avid reader.
This one was a great idea on improving your work or catching up some ideas. You simply do what you love and the ideas will be there and you will just to learn from it. Research was also one of the tip you could get on how to easily come up with ideas. Just get some informations and tricks from the others and try to make your own in a unique way.
researching and browsing about your topic is one way of coming up with more ideas. By browsing you can have an overview on what to do, how to do it or improve it.
Yes I agree with you and that is what I am doing whenever I want to come up with some ideas into certain things that I really don't know. Researching on the web is the best way to improve our knowledge and learning experiences. It can help us to gather facts that we may use for certain articles that we are going to write about and give us a sort f motivation to continue on our work and enjoy what we are doing.
A lot of my graphic design ideas come from exploring local art museums. I’ve got a fantastic arts culture in the area where I live, and new exhibitions are always popping up to give me a healthy dose of inspiration.
That is a great idea of yours. There are a lot of cool designs that you can really create by visiting a museum as there are a lot of unique things that you can see there. I adore you for using your historical things as your inspiration.
It's great because it both inspires me, gives me something to chat about with friends and family who also love art, and teaches me new things. I'm just fortunate to have quite a few art museums in my area. My favorite is a modern art museum which always has really cool and quirky pieces on display.
That's good for you. Good thing that you have friends you can share your museum experiences about. I really want to go to a museum also, visiting one is something that I also enjoy. I could also remember that I visited a museum alone before. Eventhough I'm all alone, I still enjoyed my visit in that museum.
Lucky you! In my area though it is rich in culture but exhibitions are rare. If we had more frequent ones then we will have the richest culture ever.
Sometimes it will be hard to get a good idea to use as a design. What I usually do is that, I would take a walk outdise or go to a some place to relax and think about it. I also search through the internet to gather some ideas that I could use.
Taking a quiet time to think about a good design is something that is necessary for us as well. When you are looking for a good design, you always have to do something that is very important which is reflecting on a good idea for it.
Making a space for you think is important. You also have to spend some time for you to go to the places that might help you to gather some ideas that may help you to create such designs. Stressing out will never help you create your best design.
Keeping the ear to the ground will give you great ideas. Ideas will come from nature, on the net, with people you meet and many other places. A human mind can be triggered with anything.
I know you get a lot of ideas when you take a walk.
Interesting, in my case too I just think of random stuff and see possible scenarios about that stuff that I first think and it goes from there, other ideas just flows. It's really wonderful when you're in the state of flow, because it's like being in there, getting lost in your thoughts.
I really don't know, it just pops into my mind. But I do think that subconsciously the thoughts developes into ideas from read and seen data.
Yeah, that's the reality as I have noticed that sometimes the idea will just pop up from nowhere. That's the power of us being creative with the way that we are doing the things that matter to us.
I think it is a sort of revelation. Ideas come just like a dream. It has happened to me too.
Have you ever had those insights or hunches that just pop into your head and you feel like you have to act on them. My major ideas come that way especially when I am travelling or busy handling something. There are also times when you get stuck handling a problem and as you solve it you envision a solution for another problem you had.
Have you ever slept and woken up with great ideas? It is almost like a hunch too.
The Internet is the best place to find great ideas. If I need to find new and great ideas, I just search on the browser or try visiting a platform like Pinterest. Pinterest is also good when it comes different images for painting or drawing.
Pinterest are flowing with varying ideas from different sources, all of which corresponds to each users interests. A simple click on the motif of your web designs would give you a lot of suggestions. Another platform that looks like Pinterest is We Heart It. It is pretty much like Pinterest.
I heard We heart it from another member before but I have not tried it yet. Since you suggest it, I would love to check it to find more ideas. Maybe I can find some ideas that I won't be able to find on Pinterest.
Oh, I love Pinterest not just for art inspiration but for inspiration in so many areas of life! It’s such a helpful site to get new and fresh ideas from.
You can build your ideas through your mind, and you will contract it like a blue print.
To research is a big factor on how I come up with my own ideas. I used others work as inspiration. For example, in Graphic Design, I search for other design/designer with the same field or concept. I'm not good in creating my original concept, my imagination is not too strong.
I think it just comes naturally. With whatever I do, I just let my mind wander and the ideas just connect with each other and so I can make a plan. I don't really force my brain to think of ideas because it exhausts me so much.
Graphic design is an art which also involves a lot of skill and imagination. I think whenever you try very hard to find some inspiration then it is very likely that you will find none. However, when you don't get worked up then it is very likely that you will find that your mind will work very efficiently and you will come up with magnificent designs and ideas for your project. You can also get inspiration from the work of other designers and you can use it to create your own unique design
Ideas just come to me. Sometimes at the most unexpected times. It could be before bed, or after waking up, or while I'm riding the train. Anywhere, and anytime really.
Yes, same here. On my bed. because when you are in bed, you will have peace of mind and there you will have a better idea.
Same with me. It just comes naturally, there's no use of forcing yourself as it may just exhaust you.
Yes that is true and for me some ideas comes to my mind whenever I am siting near a table or if I am at the sea because it is very calm and peaceful. I can easily think of some ideas that I want to explore about which helps me to make use of it in anyways.
I like to look at others pictures, art, etc. I personally believe that surrounding yourself with lots of different artwork in different mediums and techniques tends to work really well for inspiration. I also like to put on some of my favorite songs to get into the mood to draw, the ideas usually start to flow once I feel relaxed and ready to work.
I agree with you, before I write or if I don't have a writing gig I always read so that I fill my mind with ideas that I might used in the future.
Yes that is really true and could a great source of knowledge and ideas that might help us to achieve something. Having some great backgrounds could give us an idea about certain things. Sometimes having a good rest can help us to get more ideas because our mind can think very well because it doesn't feel any tiredness which is a hindrance in achieving quality ideas that we really need.
For me, as a writer it depends in the topic that is given to me. If I am already familiar with the topic, I write what I know and add it with something from the internet, also I read first before writing mine.
I'm often influenced by art, that's why I like going to Art Galleries and Museums. Also I have a good friend, he's an artist who specializes in oil and acrylic paintings. That's why whenever I have a tough project I call him up to get some ideas.
Museums are my go-to for inspiration too. I can visit the same museums over and over again, and still get re-inspired on each visit! They’re just such wonderful hubs for really igniting my passion and interest about certain topics.
Visit Tumblr.com and search for "graphic art" or "graphic design". The search results should stimulate your brain waves and get you thinking. Hope it works!
I more on thinking what can be the topic I want then I start to check more information about it, research it, read about it, then once i gathered all what i need then that's the time I start to imagine on how i can make it really like whats on my mind. Its easy if you're an artist and full of imagination.
Whenever I'm lacking inspiration, I visit sites like Pinterest or other image sites. Here I collect images that inspire me in whatever way so that I can use them in the future. This way I can just open up the site when I'm ready to work on a project and view everything I've gathered, without having to put energy into finding new images when I don't have a lot of time in that moment.
It can also help to trigger your mind into a creative workflow. I try to do this by creating habits whenever I go to work. For example, I like to light the same incense or drink a specific type of tea so that the scents and flavors get me into the right mindset!
I love the incense idea! I think scent is a really powerful tool to unlock memories or capitalize on certain parts of our brain. I’m going to try doing that myself!
This is a good idea. Getting ideas from Pinterest is to me a nice idea. I will do he same really
I always talk to my clients to ask because sometimes they have request and they already have a specific idea in their mind and all i have to do is add a bit on it.
By communicating with your client it will help the both of you, its like you are just having a collaboration and this will also avoid misunderstanding and will build a good relationship and rapport to your clients that might lead to loyalty. He/she might recommend you to his/her other aquiantance and if he/sge happen to have another project he/she might still choose you.
Good communication is definitely one of the keys in making it easier to get motivated and get work done. By knowing that you’re on the same page with your client, it means that you take a lot of the guess work out of things - and save a lot of time!
Yeah, I had this problem recently with a client. It took awhile, but eventually we started to understand each other and I got their job done. They liked the work, and have promised to order more from me in the future.
I need to copy this. Talk with your client to find out what they need.
it never crossed my mind. They surely have an idea what they want and you build on the idea.
Sometimes I am seeking for some advice and suggestions to other people that I know have some knowledge or expertise on the design making process. It is good to ask somebody's help if we lack the knowledge and skills so that we can have a fast and a reliable output afterwards.
when I pitch an idea to a client, I always do the background search on the client. I will try to find out the kind of business the client does and what he actually wants. I will also see what kind of works he has out sourced in the past. All these things will give me and idea on what should be the primary idea.
Whenever a problem presents itself, my mind would immediately be filled by ideas on how to solve the problem. Sometimes I get the best ideas when I'm working on a solution.
Sometimes I get my ideas from reading blog articles and forum posts. I learn a lot of new things from the posts of others. Also movies and print media are valuable resources that helps me in thinking of new ideas.
I majored in Graphic Design and Advertising when I went to college, and there were a decent number of tips and tricks that me and my peers picked up along the way.
One of the main strategies I use is an organized process of brainstorming. With the client in mind, I write down everything that I associate with their brand, and then I start making possible connections in order to create fundamental ideas. Then after I’ve cherry picked some possible candidates, I start doodling some thumbnails in order to visualize my ideas. From there it’s just a process of elimination and refinement until you reach the final product.
That's really cool. You sound so professional. This reminds me of the novel writing process. You start off with some plotting. You organize everything down to the most minute details. Then you start writing drafts.
Then, comes the editing. Until it all comes down to the final draft. The common point of all great things is the stage of refinement.
Thank you for the compliment! And you make a good point about the refinement process.
A lot of people think that designing or writing something is a matter of thinking something up, putting it on paper (or on screen rather) and you’re done. I don’t know a single person who does it that way, because you’d have to be some sort of genius to do so.
You have to start with a rough idea and then just keep on polishing it until it shines.
You do well then. It is great that you are a graphic designer. So designing for you is quite simple. Then you are an advertiser too.
Thank you for the compliment! While wouldn’t go so far as to say that designing is simple for me, it’s definitely a simplified process when you have a format that you can use to create ideas. Most people assume that designers just come up with an idea in their head, and that’s what becomes the finished product. The truth is that it’s a lot of trial and error—testing to see what works and what doesn’t—and constantly polishing things until you get to the final product.
As for advertising, design and advertising go hand in hand, since being familiar with good design is a necessary part of being able to effectively advertise a product.
Ideas comes to me in a flash so I have myself always ready with my notebook and pen so that every time an idea strike in my head. I am ready to write it down as soon as possible so I can remember it. It is also advisable to work on it immediately every time an idea pops out from your head in order for us to maintain momentum because idea is an inspiration which has an expiration. So be sure to use that idea as early as possible before it will become the idea of others.
That's really inspiring. I thought about it too. It's kind of like waking up from a dream. You have these wonderful thoughts floating in your mind. And then in a few moments time, they're gone.
So it's really important that we write them down. The good news is that you may remember them even after you forget. It depends on how memorable your idea was.
I like to 'clear them and forward' ad soon as ideas crop up. That is the best policy. Ideas will come always.
Mostly ideas come with keeping your ear to the ground. Motivation factor comes in play too. Maybe money will be a motivator.
One then researches on the net and in other areas.
You have to be careful with that though. Otherwise, people will think you're trying to copy their ideas.
That's a good question, friend. I'm glad someone brought it up.
Personally, the ideas I have are random, it's both good and bad. It's good because it's always something unique and "sudden".
Bad, because it rarely happens...
Ideas are random entirely.
Sometimes I go to pinterest to pick some ideas and If already form an idea about a project then that's the time where in I find some references that will suit my ideas but I don't usually copy the whole but rather I only include some parts and pick again some references.
Pinterest is an interesting way to get ideas but I never thought about it from a work perspective. I often look on there for stuff related to my hobbies but next time I need work related inspiration I’ll give it a go!
You must try it anyway. I am a graphic artist so I usually get some references and ideas in pinterest as a lot of artists post there works there which is so much inspiring for me.
Ideas do not come up overnight. You need to think about a topic and do some groundwork first up. Then, you need the help of the internet to dig in deeper and gain some info about the topic you are planning to work upon. As far as graphic art is concerned, you should have some skill beforehand and only then you can build up on that to make graphics look better. You can refer to the paintings of some great artists to see if you can get something out of that. Do not forget to write down the idea somewhere once it gets into your mind. As @edencaga mentioned, try to search through references to gain valuable insight.
Sometimes I an come up with some ideas for my previous experiences into certain things because it gives some knowledge that I can be used for my daily living and works as well. It helps me to become more smarter for the second time because of some lesson that I had learned in the past from my previous experiences in my life. Sometimes it is tough to find some great ideas that is why we should make a lot of research in order to find them.
I'm not a graphic designer but I work in the creative arts. I get my inspiratiom from watching and observing people going about their everyday lives. So far, for me, this has been the richest muse for creative ideas. People are complex and different and unpredictable. There is always a chance there will be something new when you look to get inspired for your next big idea.
Clients already have an idea in their mind and I agree with what others have written that indeed we need a good communication skills in order for us to pick what kind of idea our client already has in their brains. It is our job then to tap those idea and present it to our client visually. If you are going to do this provide your clients with 3 or more options of graphic design so that your client have many options that he can use and eventually you getting more clients because of referral because you have satisfied this particular client.
I surf the internet a lot, read articles, view images, watch videos, anything that can make my brain go haywire so that I can come up with something original or maybe a little different to what they have.
That's a smart idea! Right now when I need to brainstorm, I just go for a ride on my bicycle around the city I live in and try to think of new ideas by taking different routes all over the place.
I agree that surfing in the internet can help us to have more ideas that we can used for some important purposes. I love surfing in the internet and most of the time I find it very useful because I learned a lot of things from it which makes me to improved my current knowledge and skills into certain things.
You should have basic knowledge of what the design is going to represent, your clients will give you ideas on what to do. A good open communication with your client always helps with the ideas you can input in a design, and if you get stuck, asking someone else for help goes a long way.
Just watch a ton of other people doing the same think that you are doing. You will see a hundred new things and after watching that you will easily create your own new idea.
Sometimes I am watching at YouTube some videos whenever I want to come up an idea into certain things and I really make it a point to understand and get all the important details that I really need so that it will give e a lot of benefits. Though watching at YouTube I can easily acquire some new knowledge that I really need in my article writings and for my other freelancing sites.
Ideas come from so many different avenues. I can be asleep and dream up something weird or unusual and a fresh concept will come out of it. Taking a shower, walking down the street, driving my car, all of those normal things are ways to enrich my artistic zone. It's only when I don't bother to use those concepts that they fail me. I forget to write them down, or sketch them out, and then they're just gone, or they don't seem as important anymore. I have to keep myself in the creative mode or things will escape my grasp.
The land of dreams is indeed a place where creativity and inspiration resides. And yes the shower too! You should always have a small notepad and a small pen to carry around with you everywhere. I find that writing things down as they come is easier than having to wait until I can write them down somewhere because then I'd forget all the good parts.
Sometimes talking with friends about different subjects gives me ideas and sometimes I get ideas from my friends. As they say 2 heads are better than one and if you have a lot of friends, you can use that to your own advantage.
I recently got an idea from a dream I had! I’d been worrying about a pitch to a client and I guess it was on my subconscious so much that I even dreamed about it. The human brain is a crazy thing at times!
How do you come up with ideas: Ideas flashes and it came into my mind. To come up those better ideas, I like/prefer to stay those peaceful place, a relaxing scenery that make my mind feel at ease and relax. Then, whatever I think suddenly an idea came on my mind. And also with the heart and mind connected there were so many better ideas that came out of nowhere.
I come up with many ideas right after just waking up, when my body is calm and relaxed, and there's no distractions, I can just imagine and focus on that design or logo that I wanna create and the energy will just flow and I will go and do it immediately before stress arises.
I often get ideas from nature and my surroundings. For example I get inspired just by looking out the window and observing my neighbors. I also get inspired by movies, shows and music. it could be the story of a film that gets you or a single shot or scene that will make you think of different scenarios and ideas.
Sometimes I am motivated to acquire ideas whenever I am not experiencing a lot of problems in my mind because it helps me to think well. Having a lot of problems prevent us to have some great ideas that are very helpful at some time. It is very important to eliminate problems first for us to have a peace of mind and so that we can think immediately for some ideas that would benefit us a lot.
I usually explore on things that will inspire me. A young boy will only desire to have a ball if he saw another kid playing a ball and that's the start of his desire to have a ball. The same is true in getting an idea. Sometimes you have to explore on the things that will make you desire on something and it will free your imaginations.
It's hard to come up with ideas, especially when you're extremely busy with your daily routine and job. Usually ideas come up randomly, it's rare when I sit down to think about an idea and it will eventually come up. I think having numerous ideas is like a talent, and to be more precise, a talent of creation. But it's like the work of an artist, very random.
Sometimes I am waking up in the early since this is the time that I feel that I can get better ideas for my article writing. It is good to start early in the morning because it is fresh and very cool to think about. It makes me think easily since it is very calm and peaceful which makes it good to have.
Whenever I run out of designs but needed to meet my deadline, I always find inspiration from looking out the window. The busy street has some hypnotizing effect on me that my mind drifts wherever. As a result, my mind seem to work on the project I am working on subconsciously. Works for me everytime.
I came up with new ideas when I see a lot of artistic things around me. It is like giving me motivation out of the art of other people.
