Why should I not hire you?

Interviews has been one of the bases nowadays whether you have successfully met the standards of the CEOs, HR Staff, Director, Manager, etc. You need to be firm and proper whenever answering their respective questions. Some of the common line they ask is "Tell me about yourself." It has been one of the most popular questions during interview yet some people can't answer it correctly. Tell me about yourself statements are being asked by the company so they could get to know more about you aside from the facts that you have provided on your portfolio or resumes. You need to tell more about your achievements, your hobbies, you experiences that you have encountered. However, some companies do it differently by asking questions that are outside the box. Some of these questions are as follows:

1. What is your favorite color aside from white and black, tell me why you chose that color.Basically this question measures on how quick you could deal with a certain situation.

2. Describe any color without saying its real color. This question measures on how creative you can think. Your decisiveness is also tested here

3. What is your salary expectation? This is quite hard to answer but , in my opinion, the higher your salary expectation is, the more job opportunities and experiences you landed.

4. Define 'loyalty'. This is common question during interviews. This will attest your loyalty on a certain job or company. Make sure that you define the word itself flawlessly.

5. Why should I not hire you? This is so far the most challenging question I ever encountered. Basically, you need to discuss all your weaknesses honestly. Then provide explanation afterwards if what else can you do to make it as your strength. There is no right or wrong answer here but you just need to be open minded and honest on what you are feeling.

Well that is really a tough one. It is really a question that employers hit you like a hard ball. On the other hand, this also means that the employer is testing how much you wan't the job. It does not necessarily ask for your flaws as an employee. For me, I think would answer it this way.
Sir/Ma'am, I am applying for the job that I think best fits my capabilities and abilities as an employee. If ever you think that my qualifications does not meet expectations, I think it would be fair for you not to hire me.

I think this is the only appropriate way to really answer this question. Though if an interviewer really wants to be a jerk about it and takes the question seriously, then they might see it as you trying to dodge the question. Then again, if they're seriously going to ask a question like that then you're probably the one that's not only dodging the question but dodging a bullet by not working at that company.

I agree with you employers will always want people in their field who are very much passionate about the job. Thus, whatever question and answer that in involved in the interview mean a lot.

If an interviewer ask me that question my answer would be 'based on my qualifications and the job description at hand, I'm very much qualified for this job and there is no reason at all for you not to hire me.'

I will share my experience with #3.
A couple of months ago I did a job interview. When I was asked about expected salary, I said I need at least $500. I got a phone call two days later. The person on the line said, if I agree to work for $300, my salary will be increased gradually. I said yes and began working for the company. However, I did not get along with the boss and resigned.

In response to your comment. I myself wouldn't be happy or comfortable if the people that I am working with is hard to get along with. One wouldn't be really effective if he or she finds something which puts him or her at the state of unease.

I think it is best to abandon the work place if you do not get along the boss. There is no point in working with someone who does not appreciate you. Some of the interviewers only aim to intimidate the interviewees. Once my friend was in an interview where the interviewer asked questions about the game of cricket. The position was for the teller in the bank.

When I was in Secondary school, I opt to have a summer job. There was offered summer jobs for students in our local government which concerns jobs like arranging paper works and other stuff. My friends and I tried out to apply but sadly I was discouraged at the time because of the attitude of the interviewer. She was a big lady with an angry voice which kept asking me questions in an intimidating way. I do not know if she is just testing me or if she really is in a bad mood and unintentionally flair out on everyone who would enter her door. All I knew was I was very offended that I decided not to continue at all. Come to think of it, some employers wants to see how decided you are to work for them, it also shows how you deal with the pressure which is a good tactic in testing ones characteristics. But that lady I mentioned, really scarred my eagerness to look for summer jobs when I was in my teens.

In my home country, nepotism works. If you are recommended by an influential person, no matter what your qualifications are you will be always hired if you do not have any recommendation, the chances of being hired are negligible even if you might be qualified for the job. Because of this kind of nepotism, the company or organization will always have low quality workforce. This happens more in the public sector.

Good income you got there. But you are right. It is better to resign if you did not get along with your boss. It will be hard to stay happy in that situation.

Why should I not hire you as the OP has asked or Why should I hire you is the tricky question for the interviewee. You are in the interview because you believe you are the right candidate and you deserve. However, it might appear as your overconfidence if you say so with the interviewer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
The right thing to do is to answer the interviewee a sincere answer. Not a memorized one. It will reflect on the way you move if that will be your case and it will give you a bad reaction. Just be yourself answering any questions.

have you realized that the interviewers also try to humiliate the interviewee with silly and none sense questions? Once my friend was in a job interview for the position of bank teller. When my friend said in free time he enjoys watching cricket, the interviewer began to ask questions about cricket. My friends could not answer the questions. The questions were unrelated to to job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
It is not always like that. Most of the time, the interviewee did not just make fun of you to humiliate you. They are always asking a question with a certain point why they ask you that question. Even if it looks too far from your job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think the questions asked in the interview should be related to the job. There is no point in asking who is the President of Korea to the person who is giving an interview for the position of an accountant. The correct questions are the question that is related to accounting. Asking unrelated questions is a way to humiliate the candidate.

When the question of why I should not be hired comes up, my simple reply has always been that it's because I am coming to even make the main boss sit up to his responsibility as the boss and do things right. The reason being that I'm a principled person as well. This is said in a way to keep them guessing how principled that I am.

Okay, if I were to ask this question during a job interview I would say, "why not hire me?" I would give them back their question and let them think about it. And I would support those built up ideas that has come up with their minds based on my resume by saying, "I have good credentials when I was in college. I became a scholar, a student leader and a consistent honor student." In addition to this, I would brag about my work experiences which are related to the job description that they are looking for. Therefore there would be no more reasons why they should not hire you. Unless of course, if I did not meet their expectations, I would gladly accept that because you know that's a reality. Some will get lucky because they got the job some are not.

"If you can't pay me on how good my performance will be, then don't hire me". Looks like an arrogant threat but sometimes it gives curiosity to the interviewer that think that you are a professional that really work as hard as you can. It is a answer that has a 50-50 chance to get the job or not.

Am on the agreeing side of the first commentor saying that the question "why should I not hire you" is actually a test and not necessarily meaning that one has to openly discuss their flaws. Everyone has major flaws and an interviewer shouldn't expect an applicant to actually give a reasonable answer to the said question. But in a case when an actual answer is needed, I would probably answer as follows:

You shouldn't hire me if the company's operations revolves around illegal activities.

You shouldn't hire me if the company has unrealistic set goals.

You shouldn't hire me if the company doesn't treat or appreciate it's staff in a manner that is expected of them.

Theses are some of the few answers I'd probably give if asked the said question.

Why should you not hire me?

Because my service is so inconceivably high quality and valuable that your company would go bankrupt just trying to pay me! Once you see how absolutely fantastic my work is, you're just going to want to keep throwing money at me until you are left without a dollar to your name.

Not to mention I'm so devilishly handsome and charismatic that your other workers would just quit out of disappointment in themselves.

I'm joking of course! …mostly.

Such a funny way of expressing your views in a joking manner, I couldn't help but laugh all through the comment. Thankfully it was just a joke, or so.

I made the point of joking through my comment too, I see no reason why an interviewer should ask such a question given it's nature. Surely no would give or expect a completely honest answer to such a question. I only hope I won't be asked such in my next job interview.lol.

"Thankfully it was just a joke, or so."

Yes, yes, I'm joking of course. Mostly.

A little humor goes a long way though. It may be just a joke for an internet post, but presented with a question like this in the right environment, you might actually get a laugh out of the interviewer. Making someone genuinely laugh can really work to your advantage. But it's all about the kind of job you're applying for. I certainly wouldn't try to get a laugh out of some strict, accountant type person.

Whatever question they ask us, even if it is a tricky question like this, we should highlight our strengths. This question would throw off and make most applicants confused.

Any questions related to your weaknesses are always the worst questions to get during an interview, to be honest. How do you answer a question like that? Because you don't want to list too many weaknesses or weaknesses that may result in you not getting the job. But then you don't want to say something that is so insignificant that the employer thinks that you are trying to hide something.

I think this is a very hard question, a person should not be hired if he/she didn't possess the characteristic and necessary skills that a certain employer is looking for. During this time competition is everywhere and it is very hard to choose from the applicants on who would be the best and would really fit in the job vacancy. Although many people are interested but only few who would be given the chance to work which is really sad reality in the hiring process.

It's an interesting question. I think people should be honest with interviews. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be smart. Dealing with tricky questions is part of most interviews. Honesty is great but we should also consider not mentioning extremely personal and unnecessary stuff. They only want to know you as a person. Not everything bad you went through in life. Simply pick a strong defining feature and stick with it.

This is a very bad question to ask, and personally I have never met anyone who would ask it, because all the people I have worked with know this is a bad question. The whole point of the interview is to give the best possible image of yourself, so going to point out negatives is the exact opposite of what you need to do.

If I were asked this, I would just re-direct the conversation away from it completely.

This is a very unique question and I had never encountered this question when I was still finding a job after I graduated my college degree. I think they should not hire me if they think I cannot do well in their company because it is the company's right to choose on who would be their bet among the applicants. But for sure I will really give my best to be among of the top choices as much as possible because my intention is really to get hired but If I have no luck in a certain hiring then maybe I will just try again next time or as they say better luck next time.

I think this question is only applicable for those companies or employers that don't have a bachelors degree because if you have a degree then it should not be ask in that way because it might only offended those applicants that are just wanting to find a reliable job that would fit for their qualifications. I would not really feel good if somebody ask me in that way, maybe I would not be interested to apply anymore for such employer who would ask me such questions.

I guess this will throw a lot of people off when it pops out in an interview. I don't really know the best way to attack this question but I would try to discuss my weaknesses and how it could turn into strengths.

For example, I could say that I am quite a lazy person but that could also count as a strength because I like to do things efficiently and as fast as possible. I would like to laze around after doing all the tasks that are still pending so I try to complete my assignments immediately.

For the question, "why should I not hire you?", you should tell your weaknesses. Don't be hesitant to tell your weakness. Be honest when answering questions to the employer. Just tell them about what are your actions to improve or eliminate your weaknesses. Don't try to impress much but just after you tell the employer your weaknesses, immediately backed it up by the actions you are doing.

Interviewers usually ask this type of questions to surprise the applicant and find out their level of confidence and how quickly they could think of the right answer.. Most applicants will be rattled by the question and lose their focus. But if you have done your review right prior to the interview then you most probably found out already what to tell them when faced with this question. In most of the interview I have attended, I answered this question with telling them my weakness then turn that weakness to something positive. "Why you should not hire me is because I sometimes tend to have a hard time saying no in helping my colleague doing a job. I know how hardworking I could get when finishing a task. Being unable to say no, I am putting myself into a lot of stress working hard for all the help I am giving."

Correct, there is no right or wrong in answering this kind of question in an interview. But, interviewers use this to evaluate you in terms of how confident and how genuine you are in answering every questions.
In applying for a job, I suggest you to have a review, research and practice before the interview of course. It is better to prepared.
If happens you encounter such question, tell them your weakness honestly and then think of a way of how you will overcome it and turn it as a motivation to do well.

Such question is surprising and a bit deceptive on the part of an applicant. If I were to answer such inquiry, I will reply by saying, "Because my qualifications are beyond what your company needs as of the moment." I guess such question is the most gentle way of saying to the applicant that you do not qualify for the job.

I don't think I will answer that question in an interview. But if i really have to, i will let the interviewer know that there is really no reason why he shouldn't hire me, as the major thing I'd consider as my weakness has nothing to do with the job. And then, depending on the job, i can come up with what has little or nothing to do with it

1. What is your favorite color aside from white and black, tell me why you chose that color.
RED. Chose it because it's my favorite color.

2. Describe any color without saying its real color.
HOT! The word that describes my favorite color. LOL.

3. What is your salary expectation?
Fair wages for honest work.

4. Define 'loyalty'.
Dependable. Reliable. Trustworthy.

5. Why should I not hire you?
Uumm … you reviewed your finances and realized you couldn't afford to pay me? (O.o)

Hey! It happens. I used to get letters after applying for positions with the government apologizing that they agency could not hire me because they didn't have the “budget” for the position. (Wink wink.)

The loyalty question is interesting. It can mean a lot of things:

Loyalty: If a rival company offers you a higher paying position, will you bolt?
Loyalty: If a higher-up has committed an offense, possibly an illegal one, could you keep it quiet?
Loyalty: If you are asked to do something underhanded to an employee or client by a superior, would you swallow your pride and do it?
Loyalty: Would you be the fall guy for someone else's folly if they were a valuable asset to the company more-so than you are?

Why should I not hire you: In applying for a job that fits for a one person in any company, interviews are the first step and one of the bases in accepting an applicant. Every company differs in their own way of accepting employees. In call cebter agents, mostly prefer those correct grammar during the interview.

“Why should I not hire you?” That’s somewhat a tricky question. But probably the best way to answer it is to answer it with “honesty”. You just answer it with all honesty. Tell the interviewer the negative characteristics of a person that a company wouldn’t hire and assure him or her that you’re not like that. But be sure you are telling the truth. Example, “You shouldn’t hire me because I don’t like this job”. But tell him or her that you actually do that’s why you are applying for the position and then assure him or her that you will do your best if they will consider you for the position.
